I thought it took a while to get going but from 'turbo lover' on it really picked up.

Think it took a few songs for Rob's voice to warm up, but once he got going they were flying. Painkiller was outrageous.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

    That was a good show.

Thought Uriah Heep weren't on for long enough.

747 was epic. I've always loved it.

It looked like the valve timing on the engine for the graphics in Turbo Lover was out of time. Don't ask why it mattered.

I spent the whole thing sober - drove there from work. Got stung getting out of Point Square for eighteen **** euro. Last time I went to the Point if wasnt even half that.

Still. Brought some thunder through the port tunnel.....

Felt there was a lot of angry drunks around

I could cry at how brilliant tonite was. Saw Saxon in Camden last year, they were good then but absolutely blistering tonite.

Three class acts showing us how it should be done. Feck all this watery indie shite. My motivation to pick up that guitar is finally back.

British Heavy Metal should be a legally protected art form.

Will proudly wear my priest shirt to Blind Guardian next month

Tis going to be a good 2024 for old rock

What a gig. Saxon were unreal.

Rob's voice a bit all over the place at the start but incredible from then on. I had guitar envy watching that blue and white flying V all night, absolutely beautiful.

Was a very enjoyable gig, missed Uriah Heep, didn't know much Saxon but thought they were enjoyable, was nearly a co-headline.

Priest were excellent too, like AC/DC some will argue is it the real deal, Faulkner is a great guitarist though, was a good set list, perfect mix of the hits and deeper cuts, glad they brought in Crown of Horns, Trial by Fire is a dull slog of a song, no Metal Gods 🙁

Halford still sounds fantastic, got a seating ticket, one annoying thing, people constantly in and out, don't think the steps in front of me went more than a minute without being touched, why is everyone so f*cking restless.

Good selection of nice looking t-shirts, but at 45 euro, nah.

Didn't go but there's at least half a dozen middle aged lads in classic rock T shirts asleep on various benches and bus stops along the quays........

Hope it was good enough for the Bollocking they get when they finally roll in..

No metal gods or victim of changes which I really wanted to hear but we got sinner and old to be wise which they haven't played for years.

I was surprised how good Saxon were but wow they were loud (louder than priest)

As someone mentioned above the gig got going when halfords voice warmed up.

That was unbelievable! Saxon blew the gaskets off the arena.

On Priest, Halford was in flying form last night after the first two or three numbers. We got him on a good night. Faulkners an amazing guitarist. Metal isn’t dead! One of the best gigs I’ve been to. Can only imagine what they were like in their heyday

I did not expect The Green Manalishi to make an appearrance either.

Especially when I have a copy of Unleashed in the East sitting on the shelf at home. It was a strange Deja-Vu sensation - to be inside the live record for a moment.

Nigel Glocker (Saxon drummer) suffered a life threatening brain aneurysm last few years yet he was up there last night pumping out banger after banger. And Biff Byford is 73 - with that voice! Loved the choreography between the guitarists. Unreal performance.

    What a night

The sound system in the 3Arena was tested to its limit no doubt. Only caught the last few songs of Uriah Heeps set but they rocked. Saxon were a band I didn't know much about before the gig but by god I enjoyed them. Even with there 'generic' sound they got the whole place rocking, Wheels of Steel will be a playlist favourite forever

Priest were amazing. For a bunch of middle aged seniors they gave it there all. Would of loved to hear 'Lightning Strike' but not to be. 'Painkiller' was song of the night for me. Was Halford off getting some oxygen after most songs ?

Very little visual effects, not going overboard on the 'Ireland you're the best ever' shite and just pure metal

A great start to Paddys weekend

Sadly one downer which was a lot of drunk/drugged out aggressive people. Each to there own but keep to 'yourself/group' instead of trying to pick a fight with others. Nobody bought a ticket to start a fight

Hope everyone was Rocking 'til Dawn...

Halford's comment that they are the first metal band to issue albums of new material over half a century apart got me thinking. They really are the great survivors in Heavy Metal. They have never pretended to be anything but Heavy Metal. The build up to last night and the event itself reminded me why Judas Priest were my favourite band in my youth. And the ravages of time have not diminished their talent over that 44 year gap since I saw them

Rob did have more costume changes than Cher. Guess that hell bent leather was a bit sweaty after a few minutes.

What more could we ask for - nearly 3 hours of class, long living, metal gods

And now for a few pics of the support acts

And Rob promised they would be back. Maybe a final greatest hits tour?

I don't know what it was like in the standing section but one thing that really stuck out to me where we were sitting in Block E, was that there were so many father/son, mother/son and in our case father/daughter groupings of various ages. It just goes to show how Judas Priest defy the age barriers and was great to see that a great taste in music is something that can be handed down from parent to child. God knows I owe my love of Priest, and rock and metal in general, to my dad and I was thrilled to finally repay that to bring him to see Priest for the very first time as he was a lifelong fan that supported them from the get go.

I've been made promise to get him tickets if Priest do ever return. 😁 Plus, I think my liking of Saxon rubbed off on him last night.

I was only a metre away from the front barrier, but it was mainly people in their twenties to their forties (plus the odd dinosaur like me)

There was a bit of a ruckus behind me which seemed to get sorted by people who had been barged into, and one example of a crowd surfer who the crowd managed to surf all the way to the front barrier from where security escorted him out (which I applaud, as I've been in there before when someone's foot hits your head from behind and you have no idea what's going on). I suspect any family groupings would have been a bit further back, or indeed upstairs as you mention. Generally though I do think they attracted a younger cohort than you might expect for a metal band of 50+ years standing. Equally I think there was a similar demographic for Saxon at the 3Olympia last year.

I actually saw that crowd surfer take at least two massive falls head first from people not wanting to get involved.

Security was shockingly poor in the seated area. A lot of people who should of been removed weren't.

Some poor woman about 5 rows down from me got to look at the back of some middle aged bald fecker for at least half of the JP set. She asked him to sit down and he asked why should he. One of the security staff had already asked him to sit at the beginning of the set and they had a big argument about how the seated area is for sitting only not standing. Then we had a guy from our row, upon seeing this poor woman recording the back of this neanderthal (I'm guessing for proof to lodge a complaint), went to complain about this guy. A really young female staff member asked the guy to sit and given the look of disgust on her face, I would hazard a guess that he had some derogatory choice words for her. To make matters worse, this guy was just acting completely over the top with every song and he would give everyone that walked passed him a massive slap on the back. A real Billy Big Balls kind of guy.

    Think I saw that prick

All he wanted was a fight, I saw someone in the front of Block M getting escorted out

  • Registered Users Posts: 30,343 ✭✭✭✭Tauriel

I wonder was he not removed because he was with his elderly father 🤔 He was a disgrace and my heart just broke for that poor lady not getting to enjoy her night.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,657 ✭✭✭El Gato De Negocios

Didn't see any trouble myself, I stayed at towards the back of the standing area as I can't be dealing with nonsense these days. The demographic of attendees was massive and as wide as I've seen since Paul McCartneys gig in Glasgow a few years ago. Generally metal gigs are pretty much self policing with little bolloxology but with a band such as Priest, they will attract an element that don't get out much and cannot control themselves when they do.

We had a drunk guy who barged his way through during Saxon, but he disappeared as soon as his plastic glass was empty. By that time security were on the case and looking for him. It's not very nice when a crowd surge results in an unexpected shove in the back forcing you into the people in front, but I've found it generally OK if you are close enough to the barrier. I was caught out at QOTSA last year when I found myself about 5 metres from the barrier when it kicked off just behind me and I decided to retreat to the back of the arena

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,964 ✭✭✭✭rob316

I was down front in the thick of it and found it ok, nothing aggressive. At the entrance on the way in a good few lads were pulled out by security, clearly way too drunk.

You'll always get a few arseholes.

Second time seeing Judas Priest. I am genuinely in awe of Rob Halford. How he can sing like that at 72 defies the laws of physics. Anyway, here’s some shots I took. 🤘😎🤘

Probably sent off for a burger and back in then

A mate of mine was at their Birmingham show last night, Tipton joined them on stage to play the last two encore tracks.
