There is no far left in the Dáil. Far left is communist.

The far right are in government in Poland, Hungary, Israel, Italy and soon to be France. They were in government in Brazil until recently, government in India. Far right in Ireland are getting lots of press and growing significantly in numbers.

Ireland has a right wing neo liberal government which follows on from Reagan and Thatcher.

Describing yourself as socialist isn't far left. Bernie Sanders describes himself as socialist. One of Irelands greatest heroes James Connolly was a socialist. Arguably US's greatest president FDR was a socialist (though if alive today would be described as communist). Hell Jesus Christ himself based on what is written in the bible was a socialist lol.

You described Murphy and Chú as far left. I just mentioned notorious far left people from past 100 years.

PBP/SWP Whatever the Socialist Party are calling themselves these days, Paul Murphys I-can't-believe-its-not-the-Socialist-Party are all communists and represented in the Dáil, the one time that one of them was stupid enough to utter their actual communist beliefs on the national airwaves, she lost her seat. The Irish media never challenge these lads on their actual beliefs.

Sinn Fein are members of the furthest left European Parliment group which is packed with communists.

Clare, Daly, Mick Wallace are both communists. Michael D Higgins is president and he is most certainly far left. Half the green party that are in government are far left.

The far right have no elected presence in Ireland.

The idea that any government in Ireland in the last 3 decades was Reaganite or Thatcherite is deluded, but it's a common delusion the further you go into looney left territory.

Michael D. Higgins, communist revolutionary. Irelands answer to Che Guevara.

Actually that would not make a bad t-shirt...

I..... (I'm stunned)... Are... Are you equating my post about people being entitled to their own beliefs (quote "Everyone is entitled. Just don't try to force them upon people") as what? Me having an issue with fighting an oppressive regime that had invaded other nations? And slaughtered millions of innocent people? I find that extremely offensive and that is a disgusting allegation. That's the level this thread descends to? I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. A prime example of expected toxicity: "Oh you don't want the Nazis to be fought 'cos you believe people are entitled to their opinion" What a repugnant post that says everything you need to know about the poster.

In all seriousness though - not sure if the sort of binary, them-and-us tribal politics is tactically clever for anyone who holds social or economically conservative values.

In the US and the UK the age-demographical shift to the right which usually happens when people get older does not seem to be happening in the same way anymore. Usually, when people get a little older, they get a little bit more conservative. There seems to be an age group that does not feel vested in the socio-economic status-quo enough to experience that shift to more conservative values as they age.

I imagine that importing a sort of US-style tribal, polarized style of politics is likely to just bite you in the rear end in the long run, if that persists. There will be no middle ground for them to occupy as they become a little bit more conservative-leaning, as they become homeowners with kids and a well-paying job and some money in the bank and so forth.

those 20 idiots at Dublin airport yesterday.... why don't the garda intervene? are they just hoping it all peters out instead of causing a scene?

imagine bringing your kids to that kind of thing and having them stand in front of traffic, it's disgraceful, that's another generation of braindead bigots. these scumbags were never concerned with drug dealing or anti-social behaviour or anything else until they found they could vent their frustrations brought on by their sh*tty unfulfilled lives at johnny foreigner.

    drug dealing or anti-social behaviour

You're one of the first people on here to downplay the social problems of Dublin. You're almost fanatical in how passionately you do it on any thread about Dublin. Yet here you are using the social problems of Dublin to attack a group, the same social problems that you love to downplay. You can't have it both ways, even if I think you have a point.

“The man who lies to himself can be more easily offended than anyone else. You know it is sometimes very pleasant to take offense, isn't it? A man may know that nobody has insulted him, but that he has invented the insult for himself, has lied and exaggerated to make it picturesque, has caught at a word and made a mountain out of a molehill--he knows that himself, yet he will be the first to take offense, and will revel in his resentment till he feels great pleasure in it.”- ― Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Brothers Karamazov

Restaurant owner and former property developer Mick Wallace is a communist? 🤔

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,965 ✭✭✭✭Thelonious Monk

i downplay people saying the city centre has no go areas and public transport is too dangerous to use, you have grown men on here saying this kind of nonsense.

what annoys me about the people protesting at east wall and coolock and the airport etc. is that there was never a peep out of them about issues in their community until foreigners were involved. murders, random attacks, all sorts in these areas and no one's out protesting for more garda or anything.

Communism has a long and proud history of being espoused by chancers who do very well for themselve in the free market.

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,246 ✭✭✭✭Dyr

"The proles aren't protesting about what I want them to protest about"

According to you, these areas are grand so why would you expect them to protest?

He’s clearly a capitalist though, not Trumbo. Trumbo wrote scripts this guy, well, owns and operates capital. A capitalist. Do you understand the terms?

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,246 ✭✭✭✭Dyr

Lets see, a memeber of independents for change which is a Socialist grouping, and a member of GUE/NGL which is the farthest left grouping in Brussels where all the Commie MEPs live

He might be a hypocrite but he's a scruffy Communist.

  • Registered Users Posts: 82,252 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

He might hang out with some but he’s clearly a capitalist given his assets and actions. Bernie Sanders doesn’t run a damn restaurant or a housing development company.

  • Registered Users Posts: 126 ✭✭TagoMago

Ok so he has spent most of his adult life engaging in capitalist endeavours. From what I can see he has never called himself a communist, never displays any communist iconography or talks favourably about Marx, Lenin, or any of those lads... How is Mick Wallace a communist exactly?

And what is the risk assessment level that he will throw tomato juice at anyone

More of what these bucks calll throwing tomato juice:

Being a male feminist, he couldnt knock the skin of rice pudding so, luckily the only damage the poor lady recieved was a black eye. Thats the kind of scummy carry on these lads are into.

Look at all those cowards punching the elderly and cheering on women being splattered in tomato juice. 🙄

What country even is this and should we be worried about it as a clear and present danger? Why? What was the motive for the attack even? Cut out all the context from the edit.

What distinguishes right from far right, ideologically?

Also if you mostly subscribe to what are supposedly left leaning views in Ireland ie gay rights and marriage, women’s rights and pro choice, employment equality and workers rights ,a decent standard of living for all citizens healthcare etc but are sceptical of mass immigration and green policy does that default you to far right leaning?

Or is that centrist. Not sure what I am at this stage.

Debate is now a right wing concept according to Joe.

They all but admit that they don't want their political topics to even be discussed, and would rather us all blindly submit to whatever they push, and yet they wonder why people consider them as radicals.

What these lads call "culture wars" are basically radical changes that they've got away with in Ireland but were pushed back in the states

Like the transubstantiation of the sexes or the idea that children can make life decisions without their parents consent

Very real political issues that the left tries to package as culture wars.

Oh no look out the beer cans are so scary they're being shot

Not any beer cans in general circulation mind you - 1 case of custom beer cans sent to 1 influencer. But it has sparked a sense of Zombie Apocalypse that the other standard beer cans all across the country might be infected with the 'woke mind virus' or something.

Now Mr. Rock is on this violent rampage because, like I mentioned, a brand of beer he identifies with sent a trans woman custom cans with her face on them as part of their brand partnership and to celebrate Mulvaney’s yearlong “Days of Girlhood” series that documented her transition. Mulvaney, dressed like Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, is in on the joke that she might not be the obvious choice for a Bud Light partnership, not because she is trans but because her glamorous and feminine style is at odds with the “up for whatever” brand of beer. She joked in an Instagram post, “Happy March Madness!! Just found out this had to do with sports and not just saying it’s a crazy month!”

In Canada last month the existence of a Pride version of the can had already enraged conservatives:

But these cans are not available in the US and are not what Kid Rock shot up.

It's very apt, because Bud Light is a pathetic imitation of actual beer
