Those two early incidents sum up the the difference between the USA and the top European teams nicely.

No real cutting edge to the USA, Netherlands happy to give them the ball and hit on the break. Pulisic is the man they probably wanted at the end of their move and he couldn't finish it. They haven't the nous to break down the 'low block deeefense'

Hard to get a handle on the Oranje, they seem to be playing with the LvG handbreak on all the time, hard to know if they are any good or if they are being held back.

It's just a rendering... they'll have default templates for the line, the ball, and the grass texture. All that's important is the positioning of the bits that are relevant - the outside edge of the line, and the ball. The line can be a mile wide if you want, or a mm wide, the only relevant bit of it in football is the outside border - that's the 'real' line. The software rendering is positioning the ball in relation to that outside edge based on the camera inputs.

(The famous image of the ball being a hair on the line in the Liverpool Man City game is also just a software rendering, it's not a real picture... it's just a visually pleasant way of presenting the data to the audience)

It is a physics thing the one that looks like it is not over the line is the error of parallax. Physics teachers worldwide will be delighted. I saw another explanation to do with the circumference and curvature of the ball.

Yeah I think it is over now. I was flicking channels - and I think it was Mario Melchiot on BBC radio five live. He was full of praise for the Dutch tactics. Sitting deep and going on the counter. He said ‘We never normally sit deep!’
