Thread to discuss the football itself.

This is not a thread to discuss the hosting of the competition in Quatar.

You can discuss the hosting in the relevant thread.

Haven't we seen the long injury time somewhere before this ? Champions League maybe ?

Something got to do with a background official running a stop clock or something.

Fair play mod. Good idea, good line in the sand. I was getting confused between the threads.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Maehle was very good at the Euros. Keen to see how he gets on in this tournament.

I think the linesman done excellently for that offside. It's exactly how it should be done. Let the play finish out and if it's a goal then flag it so that fans know it's likely to be not given.

Tunisia have been good. Looking the more likely to score atm.

Really hate that in soccer that when there is an injury substitution, the player coming off has to go on the ground when the ball is kicked out. Silly

If one or the other wins, ie Poland or Mexico, Argentina could be out of the group, as you'd fancy Saudi to win another game.

Needs to be a draw, to help Argentina

you'd fancy Saudi to win another game.

Would you? This morning's win looked like a massive fluke to me...

Anything can still happen in that group. Argentina could get out with 2 wins regardless of other results.

Its the kinda group though where people might wanna be careful in regards to fair play

    Good save from Eriksen's shot.

Even better chance from the corner. Cornelius should be scoring that.

Penalty check against Tunisia but ref decides against it. Don't see that too often. I think the ref is correct.

Well that was a typical international football match if ever there was one.

    Very, very poor to watch.

Excited to see Mexico soon though, rarely involved in a boring World Cup match.

Probably not a penalty but why did he cancel out the corner!?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,643 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

That Laidouni chap was good in midfield. Full of energy and aggressive.

I expect Mexico vs Poland to be a better game. Napoli represented with Lozano and Zielinski.

Mexico are serial bottlers in the World Cup considering the size of their country and how passionate they are about football.

Still always want them to do well though because their fans are great.

Pity Lainez didn't make the squad, even though he was shite at Betis, I still have a soft spot for him.

Every four years I look forward to hearing the Mexican national anthem at the World Cup.

    It never disappoints.

Iv a felling Mexico will be the better team but Lewa will get a couple of chances and finish them ,

    Disappointing half.

Always have great kits in a sea of boring crap.

Great that they haven't gone for the stupid single colour top to socks crap.

Their 2014 shirt was an all-time classic. Proudly hanging in my wardrobe too, one of the best in the collection.

    Has to be a pen.

    Ochoa saves!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,992 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

The VAR replay was a bit unfair. It doesn't go from the start of the incident where Lewa is all over the defenders back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,849 ✭✭✭Brussels Sprout

That keeper always seems to peak at the World Cup

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,548 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

Ochoa comes out of hibernation every four years to perform at the World Cup, love to see it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,548 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

Safe to say that football definitely means more to the Mexicans than literally anyone else on the planet. Brazil included.

Couldn't believe it when I saw he was back again. Is it my imagination or do Mexico always have some seemingly immortal player who resurfaces every 4 years like some sort of weird vampire.

Mexican crowd louder than all others combined so far.
