Would be good if the new hdip was at lower rate with option to complete masters while working...I think its one year in england still...plenty of fantastic teachers that did hdip prior to it becoming one year. It would open up access to the profession for lots of people..

With your subject area - have you considered your alma mater to see if adding on the teaching qualification with them is possible - like science/woodwork teachers who do teaching practice ce as part of their degree.

Many master's degrees are 90 credits, 30 per trimester for one calendar year. The PME is 120, so it's comparatively heavy. There are then more credits ahead (up to 60) for the students who add another subject, and prioritising this over the dissertation would make practical sense for many.

In some states in USA you can begin teaching with degree then do a masters when you start teaching , then you get the pay bump.

If you ask me its rediculous doing a Masters dissertation when you haven't really started teaching yet. At least if you are one or two years in you can actually see how things play out in comparrison to theory… also your seasoned colleagues are a great resource as a 'critical friend' etc.

They could make the first 60 credits a diploma as an entry requirement, and then the additional 30/60 (to make it a master's) a condition of a CID, to be completed within a period of the CID being offered. It would make entry level more accessible, and eliminate year 2 for people who aren't offered or don't want the CID.
