Why do we settle for this?

I wake up and I read the news and I hear another bad story about this country, I try to decipher it and tell myself Ireland isn't that bad but I'm losing the battle, so much so that I've acquired a Canada visa and **** off there in the next couple of months. This is the second time I've emmigrated since 2012, this time will be for good.. I've realised I can build a retirement here. What the **** is going on here? Why aren't young people getting upset about this ****?

Honestly OP, if I were you, I would attempt to focus on things that affect you directly. Things that you can control. Forget about the things that you have no influence over.

Bad stuff happens everywhere, all the time. Just be grateful that most of is not happening to you.

Switch off the news. Don't get emotionally attached to media content. Focus on what matters to yourself and those you love. You have a good life here and now.

Because young people here it seems are infected by the ATW ( all things woke ) virus… they don’t care, they are educated, no sorry, groomed now not to believe that their birthright citizenship owes them anything or entitles them to anything…they’d rather have a dubious future, difficult to access healthcare system, no public transport system improvements to speak of, an increasing and deterrent-less lawlessness, increasing Q’s and waiting lists for EVERYTHING, falling or stagnant wages and the inability to get on the property ladder… but, “what are we doing to help xyz….?” They eat, sleep and drink woke….these are all fine questions to ask if living under a bridge… which in one guise or another a few in years to come will…

if it’s any consolation I’ve never met a Canadian I disliked and count one as a longtime friend another a friendly acquaintance …. They speak highly of their homeland and quality of life, I think healthcare is getting challenging im told but that aside… Canada seems sweet. The two I mention are from Trois Rivières and the other Toronto.

It’s going to take a hell of a mindset change to get this country back on track. It’s certainly along with many of the population.. left the rails.

It's all cause by Woke and Canada is a paradise why do people write nonsense like that? We have the same issues as all developed western societies except our housing issues is worse. Canada is a lovely place but its got the same issues as any wealthy first world democacery, lots of woke culture as well.

Settle for what?

Everyone's fate is in their own hands. This Country offers cheap high quality education and rewards hard work with well paid jobs and a pretty safe environment, compared to hundreds of other nations.

If people take responsibility for themselves and take advantage of opportunity, they'll be rewarded.

And let me clear, the smart person does not study IT and work 20 hours a day for Google while living in a box room in suburban Dublin. The smart person learns a transferable skill, a trade like plumbing or electrics and builds a beautiful house on the outskirts of a mid size town where the quality of life will beat anywhere in the World.

Canada has its own fecking housing crisis just like we do all due to policies agreed upon by the West many years ago. Our money supply depends on a steady stream of people taking out new mortgages and our economy depends on a steady flow of new money being created so these housing crises are hard to avoid without a fundamental reconfiguration of the system.

....we have a wee bit of narcissism in regards our housing issues, this is in fact a common problem across the world, many developed economies are experiencing more or less the same problem, countries such as canada, Australia, new zealand, sweden, are all more or less experiencing the same problem, and if you think prices are off the walls here, you should check out south korea, whereby in some cities, citizens must take on sizeable mortgages, just to get access to rental markets! i.e. our housing problems are in fact a serious fundamental failure at institutional level, and is quickly becoming a global problem

Out of interest how much local Canadian news to your read in comparison to local Irish new? Most local bad news never reaches the international press. For instance you might of heard of Sepp Blatter as a result of the FIFA scandal, but here in Switzerland we are far more concerned in figuring out what he got up to as one of the principle officers responsible for military procurement. And then there was P26, a group Swiss army officers of decided to taken Switzerland's arrangement to Ireland to move their government to Ireland in the event of a war - they spent millions on acquiring Irish property, garages full of suitable government cars, food stocks and even handed over Swiss military secrets to the Irish defence forces. And yet this hardly got a mention in the Irish press. Bad crap happens in every country and just because don't hear about it does not mean it is not going on. So if that is your criteria for a move, then expect to move again....

As for young people, they live in a country with a strong economy and vibrant beat, so it's the place to be. Yes there are issues such as housing, petty crime etc... but those are everywhere and a large portion of them have had a chance to experience Europe via the Erasmus program etc... so I expect they have a better perspective on what is on offer.

I hope you find what you are looking for, but given your criteria I would not be optimistic.

Ireland's problems arent unique to Ireland. They are the problems of most developed, first world countries where profit is put before people. Now, in the big scheme of things, Ireland isnt even that bad because a lot of the cons of this economic model are offset by governments which do a reasonably good job of redistributing the wealth in society. There are plenty of places that have Ireland's issues plus deep, embedded inequality and winner takes all capitalism.

Are there "better" places to live in? Sure, we could be one of those fabled Scandi states with natural resource wealth on top of vibrant high wage economy where citizens are motivated and largely happy to pay inflated taxes for the greater good.......... but we aren't. But we aren't too bad either and we could be a fúcking hell of a lot worse.
