Relax, no way does @Mr Smith 09 actually think they only put 22 hours of work in a week!!! He's descended into troll-world with that one (if he wasn't there already - I give him the benefit of the doubt on there because while some people are ignorant enough to believe teaching is easy, none of them are ignorant enough to believe they only work in the classroom!)

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

The poster just referred to his own professional daughter as a "glorified babysitter", so I wonder what she thinks of said parent?

Anyway, here's one I've been mulling over lately:

A lot of people who are excessively patriotic or nationalistic must have done very little with their own lives or had little significant success of their own, that they have to piggy-back on the achievements of others. It explains why they're all into Ireland* this or Ireland* that, but as soon as you mention someone's personal freedom to express or identify as they see fit, it's oh no - must ban that!! - or we have to enforce certain national obligations and mandatory activities and disciplines** and block said individuals' freedom to abstain or freedom to express themselves in an alternate manner of their own choosing.

    * or whatever country they live in, to be consistent.

** e.g. the Irish language (there, I said it!!) but I'm also talking about other things like the US oath of allegiance or mandary national/military service.

Married to a teacher. Teaching is the easy part, the bitchiness and competitiveness amongst the female staff and dealing with the entitled parents is the hard part.
Mrs Barney earns considerably more than me for way less actual school time hours but I wouldn’t do it for 100k a year.

I'm not disagreeing but yeah, compared to other PS workers, teachers have a very sweet deal and scupper any attempts to improve the lot of other sectors

Both are jobs I'd love to have. A politician gets great money and a great pension and teachers get one of the most underrated things ever.. more time off to spend doing the things that really matter to you

As someone who has several teacher acquaintances, teaching is one of the most difficult jobs there is. You are responsible for raising the next generation and are blamed if things are going wrong.

When you’re not teaching the kids, you’re correcting homework or preparing lesson plans or doing teacher training or having staff meetings. The working day is long.
Quite a bit of the summer is spent doing training too.

You are expected to be a social worker too, especially in a disadvantaged area. Thankfully the heavy lifting on troubled kids who may or may not have a diagnosed condition is now done by SNAs, but you still need to do the rest.

Then at secondary level, the hormones kick in and many of the kids have already decided that they just aren’t into this anymore and make life hell. Then there are certain entitled and/or delusional parents making your life hell too.

As someone upthread said, I wouldn’t do it for 100K a year.

I'd like to see anyone shítting on teachers here try and control a class with shíthead kids in it belonging to equally shítheaded parents.

Parents got a taste of what it was like to manage their own "liddle angles" during covid and were damn glad when schools reopened. Eaten bread is soon forgotten.

Working with other people's kids is never an easy job , a teacher isn't half as easy as many presume,a guard is far easier than most presume

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,967 ✭✭✭✭Wanderer78

…until you re on patrol in the middle of the night and confronted with drug and alcohol fueled folks bulling for a fight, and have no problem ploughing through you with whatever they got to hand including knives, yea, being a cop is a handy number!

In much of the country it is, definitely some rough beats

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,967 ✭✭✭✭Wanderer78

very few handy beats these days, and a significant amount of it due to alcohol and drug issues, even much quieter rural beats are sketchy enough

I earn more than that too, my job is tough but I'd still do it any day over teaching. A huge amount of work involved in the job and you have to be a very specific kind of person to be able to deal with the job.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 626 ✭✭✭felonious_Gru

Nonsense, plenty of areas where the guards do SFA

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,967 ✭✭✭✭Wanderer78

shur share your evidence of this and maybe then we can discuss?

That must be Nigel with the brie...

That girl who had sex with 100 men in one day has zero self respect and I suspect she has some serious issues to put herself through this act of self abuse. There is an interview with her afterwards discussing it where she is clearly very upset and bursts into tears. Also the 100 men who took part are total creeps. This is not a feminist act to be celebrated, it is sad and seedy and she should be pitied more than anything.

Jeez, it's almost as if it's an example of someone selling what they have in exchange for fame which they can turn into money...

Like, the number of people who think they've Sherlock Homesed the situation and realised she wasn't doing it for a worthy cause, is astonishing.

Next you'll tell us you think horse racing is fiddled.

Nothing controversial about that though. What is being said however is that she was exploited, which is absurd. While I feel sorry for her to an extent because she can't be doing too well mentally, and the men could have said no, she did initiate it and invite participants, and plans to do so again soon. She does have agency here.

    I'm mint.

What I don't get, is why people care. It is no ones business what she does. It baffles me why some people get so angry about it and comment on what she should or shouldn't do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 664 ✭✭✭Frost Spice

It's in the public domain so that eliminates the "no one's business" aspect. I dunno - people comment on what's made public. You've likely done so yourself. 100 different penises inside someone in the course of a day - just seems like an individual who is faring badly mentally, maybe a sexual abuse survivor. Doesn't seem like the lads have much self esteem either. Imagine being, like… number 76.

I think the only people who'd defend it are fans of disgusting misogynistic hardcore porn or people who are so open-minded that their brains have fallen out.

    I'm mint.

I just think live and let live. I think people who have strong opinions about what she did need to chill out and take their anger out on something else. im not a fan of only fans by the way, id never pay for that but she has the right to sleep with as many men as she wants in a day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 664 ✭✭✭Frost Spice

Nah it's unhealthy and grim. Yeah I don't think it warrants anger, but I feel bad for her because I don't think she can be ok mentally. It's a sisterly thing from me. Hypersexuality is a typical behaviour associated with the trauma of sexual abuse. Maybe it's time for people to stop worrying about looking open-minded, and consider that this isn't something to be complacent about.

    I'm mint.

Who, the fcuk, is complementing her on which she's done in this thread?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 664 ✭✭✭Frost Spice

Nobody compl*i*mented her on this thread and I never said anyone did.

The person who brought up the topic however implied that it's seen as a feminist act to be celebrated. I disagreed with them. I haven't seen anyone say that.

Someone else here said it's no big deal that she's doing that to herself though, and I disagreed.

When spoiling for a fight, at least read things properly.

My CO is that we should have a departure tax for every person leaving this jurisdiction whether that's by air, sea or rail.

According to the CSO there were 20.6 million air and sea departures in 2023, probably more this year. If the charge was a nominal €5-8 per person per journey, the state could receive millions every year to maintain or improve our visitor attractions. I don't think a nominal charge would be a major issue for most travellers.

    Hitler didn't gas enough Jews.

I've said it, we've all thought it!

They've caused more deaths to others, than was ever inflicted on them, and to this day, they continue to do so.

But the Jews are always the victims.

Actually sick of them at this point. I'll be banned for this comment, but I stand by it!

I worked in France for a Jewish company. When the news came on in what Israel was doing to Palestine, they turn the tv off.

These Jews, not from Israel. A hateful people. There's good people everywhere, but the amount of Jews around the world, happy to turn a blind eye to Israel, percentage wise is very high.

    Fcuk them in all honesty
