That was hard to watch, all the hard work undone

40 runs last 2 overs. Sensational fielding from Mccarthy on the boundary though

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,291 ✭✭✭PokeHerKing

Was just about to post 200 looking possible and then a wicket. Still think we're goosed, can't see us chasing down 180ish

    Good recovery this

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,291 ✭✭✭PokeHerKing

If they get in sub 170 it would be some recovery and give a semblance of a real chance

    Not again

Surely someone else could have bowled one, his confidence must be rock bottom

Pre planned to have at end?

Third of all runs taken off Adair this time.

I'm a glass half full kinda person, but think we'll do well to get past 100.

Statement of intent or sign of stupidity there 😄

    Oh dear...

This is all on Stirling. A wicket falls and he plays a shot like that. He just puts huge pressure on a fragile batting unit, with sheer stupidity. Absolutely braindead batting

  • Registered Users Posts: 583 ✭✭✭Is1ldur

    This could be embarrassing....

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,454 ✭✭✭✭Furze99

    Demolition Derby out there!

Important that we bat the 20 overs to salvage something from the disaster - and we could also affect Australia's net run rate which might have negative consequences for them!

cant see another 10 overs with only 4 wickets left.

a disaster of a batting performance

Id rather see the Aussies through than the English

Strange decision from Tucker to give up the strike at the end of both of the last two overs. Probably wouldn't have made much difference in the end though.

Fair play to Tucker, gave it a good go almost on his own, but what was he doing rotating the strike for the last two overs - crazy!

  • Registered Users Posts: 582 ✭✭✭CiarraiAbu2

Fair play to Tucker but some of the others need to have a chat with themselves.

Smiling at Balbirnie's comment as reported 'It was hard fought. If someone had stayed with Lorcan Tucker, who knows'.

    Just not good enough.

I know it’s Australia, one of the favourites but still.

We never laid a glove on them with bat or ball.

At least a seriously fine performance from Tucker left a glimmer of respectability on the scoreboard. 11 batsmen and only 4 got double figures and 3 of those, only just…

    Stirling 11

    Tucker 71*

    Delaney 14

    Adair 11

    jeeeez

We needed 180 for victory but let’s face it… we were never likely to get up anywhere near 9/10 runs an over versus a top notch Australian bowling attack….but I’d have expected a more coordinated and quality chase. Too many giveaway wickets…

Tector 6, Campher 0 and Dockrell 0 the spine of our batting lineup in that middle order just didn’t contribute, actually collapsed… that killed our chase and all hopes.

To be fair to campher, he got done by an absolute peach.

Mccarthy and little bowled well. Dockrell kept the run rate down apart from the odd ball. Fielding was generally good.

Just a pity Adair had an absolute nightmare with the ball. If not for his last 2 overs we'd have had a decent target to chase and maybe balbirnie, sterling and tector might not have tried to take on too many wild shots to counter it

Either Stirling or Balbirnie needed to lay a platform, for the two experienced heads to get out as they did was inexcusable. It's one thing playing brave attacking cricket, it's another playing stupid braindead cricket.

Tucker played a gem, he's turning into a really good, modern attacking T20 batsman. If someone else in the top 6 could've stuck in for 15/20 runs it was game on.

Josh Little is having a great world cup. Not many having better tournaments.

I'm.not in to cricket but il support any irish team.or individual but it was hard to see all that happen.it just makes it feel we are no good only to get flukey results

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,291 ✭✭✭PokeHerKing

Stirlings first swing showed where his head was at. He was out there to swing at anything.

Not sure why given the target was almost unattainable. He should have thought to himself, put in a good display and lets see where we're at by the 15th over.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,849 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

How. .? We’ve got plenty of results against higher rates sides that were absolutely achieved on merit and excellent performances as opposed to any element of them being flukes.

In this World Cup We beat the English and the West Indies victory was completed with 15 deliveries to spare….can’t say there was much luck there. We hammered them.

Have to say that Lorcan Tucker has be a little bit of a revelation in this tournament which has sort of come from left-field. Three decent knocks and today's was a special effort in a hopeless cause really. He did hit 78 from 38 balls against South Africa during the summer but I didn't expect too much from heading into this tournament. Harry Tector has been disappointing after such a good year and today summed it up for by just giving away his wicket.

Still an excellent tournament mostly for Ireland ahead of the final game. Josh Little has been generally really good and our bowling has been fine apart from one bowler in each game who just isn't on it but that happens in this form of the game. I think the conditions of it being in Australia has helped a lot more than the mostly spin-friendly World Cup tournaments that have been held in Asia recently.

Massive win for England over New Zealand in a great game in Brisbane. Even though England hit 179, you did feel they left some runs out there and for a while during the middle overs, Glenn Phillips had them seriously worried but England gradually picked up wickets and in the end got on top to win by 20 runs.

So it comes to the final group games and the order is important. Ireland face New Zealand first on Friday and a win for New Zealand will put them through. Australia face Afghanistan right after that and need a big win for their run-rate. England face Sri Lanka then on Saturday knowing exactly what to do. If an upset happens in either of the first two games, then Sri Lanka can qualify for the semi-finals with a win over England.

Finishing fourth would be of benefit to us, as we'd get automatic qualification for the next installment of the T20 World Cup.
