I mean yes I do deserve a house in Dublin on an average wage, and I never said I have no savings. But the top ups for Dublin would mean even a place like Finglas requires a top up deposit of at least 45000 on a salary of 40k thats to the lending rules

Of course it is. We used low tax for mmcs to locate here. They employ a small amount of local people in tech (most Irish studied arts or business) and bring in foregin experts for the other jobs. This influx of niche experts on 100k+ as well as the ending of building social housing over decades have come together to result in housing being too expensive in Dublin for working class people and a explosion of people forced to live at home or rent in the private market

To answer your question of 'where will generation rent live when they retire' - no one cares. Short term gain is all that's important. The guys in charge right now wont be in charge in 20/30 years and then it will be someone elses problem.

People on this site must be loaded or else (most likely) 40+ in age so got in before the central bank rules made it near impossible to get a mortgage so they are clueless to realities of life for younger Dublin people (and other cities)

I worked in two in a call centre role in one and a marketing role in another. I know that in my offices salaries where between 25,000 and 60,000

The tech staff are on 100k plus.

Likely they will have a HAP type system, of course HAP doesn't work as if you are single with no kids the only properties within the rates are house shares

Or perhaps some of us are ~40, putting all of our energy into working hard and saving hard, trying to increase our earnings and trying to get a deposit together, instead of feeling entitled to it all because we went to UCD. You should try it.

Out of interest if you were to get on a HAP type system, in your eyes would that still make you a loser and failure (your words not mine) too? Seeing as HAP tenants pay rent and don't own the house.

I tried to get a hap property, Im on the council list. But all I could afford with HAP was house shares so I stayed at home.

Of course it would be shameful. As would social housing but at least it would be secure shame

I think the plan here is to abolish fore gin investment ( I think this bot means 4G ? ). This will be great as it should increase our unemployment by around 4-5 hundred thousand and we can always use them as slave labour to build all the gaffs with? When housing was left to the market half of Dublin lived in slums. It was the mass building of social housing after 1930 and years of trade union agitation that ended Victorian levels of poverty. Since the 1980s free market neo liberalism has destroyed this and sent us back. Across the western world though Ireland is one of the worst
