Do you support the Crown as head of state in a United Ireland?

Following the success of the Queen’s funeral and the support expressed on Boards for her would you support the Crown as head of state in a United Ireland. A Dual Monarchy if you will. External Association via the Crown if you will.

If you don’t like the terms of the question, don’t vote!

By far the most efficient solution would be to nationalise all the monarchy assets and let the Brits borrow our President instead (no need for them to vote either, save some cash). Net gain of a few billion

We can all express condolences and even support for a foreign nations sovereign, that doesn't mean anything more than that.

I would consider myself a liberal person and open to must ideas and discussions but this one is clearly daft, there is no way I would accept or vote for a foreign sovereign no more than I would expect any other nation too

I'm happy to make many concessions on a United Ireland; new flag, new national anthem, etc... but any notion of monarchy or rejoining the commonwealth is a line in the sand I'm unwilling to cross.

Wasn't this along with and /or rejoining the British commonwealth being suggested as a sweetener to unionists, as a way to steer them towards thinking that they would be less isolated in a united Ireland.

Try to understand the context. The queens popularity (and pubic turn out for a funeral) doesn't automatically transfer to the next in line, or the monarchy in general. Not least for the purpose of reinstating a monarchy in "Ireland". What ever "Ireland" means.

I don’t see how floating a poll on an idea that might have some merit in a United Ireland as a way of engaging unionism would stir s*. There is a lot of admiration for the late Queen, King Charles was a visitor as Prince here long before Lizzie. How foreign is the Crown in a United Ireland? A lot of British settled here, 1 million unionists, southern unionism stirring again.

Well I’ve put the merit of the idea in the post you quoted. The merit of the poll is seeing what the mood here might be: like any poll it’s only a snapshot in time of a much longer process. It’s a Boards view the day after a very significant event in UK history and what impact if any it had on our bigger picture and ideas around a United Ireland. We are surely capable of looking at ideas like this. Why are a few so interested in dismissing it?

A few posters have asked this so I’ll quote what I said on the other thread:

Now add to that the concept of the “working funeral” ie where you get to network with 100 heads of state and large numbers of heads of government.

We're merging two countries together. There are distinct cultural differences between Irish and Northern Irish.

I don't imagine a lot of Northern Irish would be happy singing Amhran na Bhfiann no more than Irish would be happy singing God Save the King.

Voted no as we're discussing the prospect of a united Ireland, not rejoining the UK.

I'd have no issue with changing the National Anthem but given the symbolism of the Flag I'd be loath to see it change.

Bizarrely a few of my colleagues thought I'd be taking yesterday off work to watch the funeral because I happen to be CoI.
