What's the deal with after creating a message to reply to whatever point in a thread, and subsequently not posting the reply, does that unposted reply forever more get tacked on to the bottom of the thread page, even after complete deletion, refreshing of the page etc. ??

You mean the saved drafts? They're not posted, just reshown upon return. You can delete the saved drafts separately. And yes, it's annoying for everyone.

Ah yes I see...it's saving the drafts by default. That shouldn't be too hard to fix no?

Also, can you tell me how I quote part of a previous post in my reply?

Fix what? It's working as intended. You can delete old drafts here: https://www.boards.ie/drafts

You can only quote posts in full when using the Quote button. The workaround to quote part of one is to simply copy and paste, e.g.:

To force a save. The auto-save functionality only saves every "X" time period. Clicking Save Draft manually means you know it's saved and can safely shut down the window and it will be there when you return. Although the auto-save period is so frequent that the manual save is largely redundant

Why do you have to go to a different page to delete the drafts though? Why can’t you just delete them by deleting the text in the comment box?

I just deleted a load of drafts at your link. Most of them were messages I had actually posted, but also got stuck in drafts.

Think there should be no auto-save feature, or if there needs to be one to compose the message, then it auto-saves only once, but once the text box is cleared by the user, nothing is saved.

Auto-save was a regularly requested feature in the past. I agree it should delete the draft when the text is cleared, but given the list of other issues with the site, I don't imagine it's a high priority
