I was just outside a while... Sharp sweet air and so clear I could see all the houses way up there in Belmullet.

    Lovely day but very chilly.

We had a heavy white frost this morning here in SW Donegal, it's been a while, the sheltered side of the house had ice all day in a few patches to my surprise.

Max of 7.1C today here in Roscommon as the fog never cleared all day.

I was roused in the wee small hours by a vicious shower on windows and roof. It changes so suddenly. Calmer now.

The past week hasn't been bad in terms of weather here in Meath, plenty of sunshine and majority of rainfall has fallen during night time which is ok by me. The cold yesterday was a bit of a shock to the system with temperatures barely making it to 6C and hovering between 3 and 5C for most of the day. The garden isn't quite as spongy as it was 2 weeks ago with the ground beginning to dry out a little bit.

I should be back updating the FI threads from next week as my computer should be fixed by then. My fibre optic broadband also broke down this week and was without internet for 2 days but now it's back working. Hopefully this is the end of technical problems as I find using boards on a mobile phone to be an absolute horrible experience, it's so much easier to use on a computer especially for posting the charts from Meteociel and Wetterzentrale.

Not to be smart but seeing the words "unseasonably warm" next to weather reports for Ireland in October and November the last few years drives me crazy! Mild, pleasant temperatures throughout autumn are the norm for quite a while now and the term "unseasonable" seems to be used with a long timeline, perhaps incorporating the average temperatures through the ice age!

Pleasant cool afternoon in Fenit Co Kerry, a few showers and light breeze.

A bitter finger-nipping night. But totally still and silent. I find myself holding my breath... Feet and fingers chilled..

Then the wind woke, and a howler it is now. Winter... chill and dimly ominous. Dark clouds occluding the light.

Hard frost last night with -2.3c air minimum and grass minimum of -5.6c here in South Laois.

Today's rain front is advancing east with some nice cloudscape...

First frost here in Waterford this morning. Great to see the humidity lower than 85% for once.

Valentia Observatory is currently experiencing its wettest autumn since 2000 with 664.9mm as of 1400 today, just after beating 2006. This very wet autumn has meant the year of 2022 is now running slightly wetter than average there.

Thankfully we got a few dry cold days this week because the water levels were getting worrying.

Athlone has dipped slowly back down to below Median flood level. The question is for how long.

    Realtime waterlevel

Lough Corrib near me was getting very high but has reduced a fair bit over the last few days.

    Realtime waterlevel

The ideal would be for some cold frosty nights to freeze some of the waterlogged mountains out west and reduce/slow runoff.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

It is awesome how swiftly water levels sort out. When I was in Donegal I had to rescue sheep from a very sudden stream flood. ( Some here may remember that! Waded in fullly dressed grabbing lambs up to my thighs in bitterly cold water ) By nightfall it had eased off.

Very heavy rain yesterday and this morning on the west coast, plenty more to come this coming week and next weekend by the looks of it. Possible some settled weather after next weekend.

There was some lovely sunshine during the middle of the day for a few days this week but it rained either morning or evening every single day. 9 straight weeks now of SW wind and heavy rain on the west coast. Such a long time to be in the same pattern.

Too wild and vociferous for sleep.

A brute of a night. Hour after hour of buffeting winds and rain hurled on roof and windows...
