How long does jobseekers benefit last?

Hi

For people who have experience with this, For how long can I be on jobseekers allowance before they

tell me I have been on it too long and I can not get it anymore. I am assuming it is something like a

year. I am applying soon and I would just like to have an idea of how long I can be on it before I will

have to get off it and sort out a job/education

you should really be sorting out job/education immediately as jsa stipulates you must be actively seeking work.

As long as you are looking for work, and cooperating with the social welfare with regards to attending meetings when requested, and providing evidence of your efforts to gain employment, then you shall remain entitled to claim jobseekers allowance for as long as you need it. They won't cut you off for being on it too long, as long as you continue to satisfy the qualifying conditions.

What they will do if you continue to remain unsuccessful in your efforts to gain employment, is put you on a community employment or tus work placement scheme. The department will assign you an employment advisor, to assist you with your efforts to gain employment. As long as you are trying to find work, then you don't have anything to worry about.
