Thought about doing some 'nixers' in the evenings/weekends to supplement things... but the cost on time and mental health from lack of a break from the grind was too much. i'd rather have less money and more headspace.

Don't you dare leave youtube. I didn't think I was interested in tanks and now I am. You bastard.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

I rent out a couple of rooms.

Yep, I sell some of my paintings/artwork and pottery (been a long time on the latter!) from time to time, but it's a really small income stream in the greater scheme of things.

I also jointly own a property with my two older sisters which we rent out - so a modest income from that source also.

Won't be chucking in the day job just yet! lol

Selling your artwork must give you great pleasure.

This year I managed to harvest a bowl of potatoes and one apple .

I don't but worked a couple of nights at the Fleadh as a favour and the extra few bob was handy.

If I could do something that'd give me €100 a week into the hand it'd be nice.

First they came for the socialists...

I successfully rooted and grew some hedging when I couldn't afford to buy any. I thought about possibly doing it to sell a few and have 50 plants growing away as I had the pots. It won't make me rich if I sell them but I enjoy it.

My side hustle is beekeeping. Some years I even make a profit!

Thanks for looking after the bees. A little dude was staggering around the ground the other day - don't know whether injured/sick or got really wet (there were heavy showers) or was just at the end of its natural life. I looked up what to do to revive it, and there are conflicting views on the whole sugar water thing, so I peeled some skin off a grape and put the peeled side on the ground next to the bee. The bee was nibbling away on it for ages. And the cat (striped) was fascinated. She was thinking "That tiny furry stripy thing is just a miniature version of me" (probably). Anyway, she made a pounce for the bee so I had to lift her away and bring her in.

Checked on the bee after but the poor auld craythur had died.

Thanks for looking after the little bee! To be honest, honeybees are doing ok, as it's a beekeeper's job to keep hives healthy and thriving. It is the other small animals (birds and insects) that I worry about, as they need diverse habitats to survive. Crop fields usually provide little food for these animals by design and could be deadly for any insect if the crop requires spraying with an insecticide. Similarly, monoculture forests (as an example, densely packed sitka spruce plantations) are not great for the wildlife either. On the other hand, Ireland has a lot of bramble hedges and these are great for small wildlife.

I have a couple of seasonal ones - a bit of overtime in the day job comes in handy over the summer months. Plus, I do some paperwork and/or hard graft in the family business occasionally which gives me another few bob from the hubby! Lovely to know there is a means of grabbing a few extra quid if needs be.

teaching along with farming although not sure in what order they are both precarious. id like to go full time farming but the teaching is easy money in the right school.

You could always bring a cattle prod into the school to control the kids and combine your two careers.

It's getting more and more like the States now where people on what should be decent salaries can't earn enough for a comfortable quality of living. I have something I do which involves sport and I get about and extra 160 a week for 8 hours of my time. But because I love it I don't think of it as work.

I'd imagine with the spiraling costs of living and the working man/woman paying for housing of the unemployed by choice crowd we will see more and more people working 2 jobs and 90 hours a week.

Anyway a bit heavy for after hours.

My advise is to try to make money out of something you love and ensure it's cash in hand.

My side hustle is trying to keep my wife & kids happy , while trying to keep the one body we get in shape and healthy, while also trying to relax & switch off, While also trying to get things done around the house, while also trying to look after two sick parents, While also trying to catch the Liverpool game, & maybe just maybe get a sneak pint in

you would have to wonder with the world gone from crisis to crisis, are young people 25-35 actually avoiding relationships, settling down, having kids because that life has now become such drudgery? its happened already in japan, people now just staying single because they cant afford kids. i suppose the idea being once you partner up nature probably brings along children.

My wife and I do a few bits and pieces related to our experiences in business, qualifications etc. Sort of fell into it over the years. Not much and fully tax compliant but it pays for Christmas and a holiday. Could do more but then it would impinge on quality of life too much. I think a lot of people from many professiona do it in some capacity.

Young people call it a sidehustle. Older people call it consultancy, nixers, grinds, etc etc.

And yet there are still many places crying out for workers. Most of the restaurants I deliver for are looking for staff. There are signs up everywhere. Construction, retail and hospitality are all struggling. I was talking to a couple of the other drivers, one is a carpenter and the other a graphic designer. Both good jobs but they still need the extra income.

Would love to work a bit extra part time but any on the books part time job isn't worth it.

Why bother cutting into your free time when tax will take away half your pay, pay that is likely not as high in the first place as your main job?
