The UK have one in parts and we should too. You know what will happen come the end of the week or even midweek there will be water shortages. I just seen my neighbour powerwash his shed for the last hour. It's not like that was really necessary.

I don't believe there's any shortages - there has been quite significant rain here. There hasn't in much of the UK.

Ireland has had No where near temperatures and lack of rainfall that UK had this Summer - there will likely be a conserve water advisory this week due to increased temps and dry spell but this has been one of the coolest and wet summers of recent years

water levels are well monitored here, just as good as other countries, as others have said, we havent experienced the same level of water shortages as other countries, but it probably will be implemented soon, water bodies advise government, and currently, theres obviously no concerns, hence no ban

One of the more sensible taxes / charges i.e. water usage by metering, was shot down by political opportunists. That would help greatly as we go forward. Your neighbour could run his powerwasher all day, water the garden with sprinklers, fill the swimming pool or whatever, but he'd be paying a proper rate for it.

Give something away for free with no limit and it's always abused.

And no, general taxation does not pay for water & sewage for everyone. We like many pay the same taxes and yet fund our own water supplies and sewage.

there's no need for a ban, we've had plenty of rain all summer. We have a 2 week dry spell in July and another one this week, that's it.

...metering makes sense, but the government at the time made an absolute balls of it, their timing was completely wrong, and public confidence was non existing with them at the time, which resulted in its overall fcuk up.....

Why should we bring in a hose pipe ban just because the British have done it?

We have our own water level monitoring in place and are well able to react and respond as necessary- just like we have done in the past.

I've been living between London and Dublin all summer andthe situations are nothing alike. I can't remember the last time a drop of rain fell here in London, grass and plants are yellow straw. It's been around 25C+ and almost cloudless weather daily for months

It would convince me more if it was pelargoniums or lobelia rather than daffodils, daffodils are spring plants. We're never Short of water during the spring. What a dumb picture. I'm not referring to you @is_that_so but the Irish times... daffodils are rarely effected by drought in Ireland.

We don't usually get a hosepipe ban until the grass is scorched and stops growing, it's still very green so no shortage of rain.

I didn't actually say it was part of the decision making though. The 2 usually coincide because restrictions occur during prolonged dry spells.

There is no such thing as free water. If you pay taxes you are contributing towards the upkeep and continued maintenance of the water network and associated infrastructure.

I also pay for the processing of my sewage.

By you're thinking it should be paid for from taxes. If I wanted to connect to the mains, I'd also pay for that.

Why are you basing this off the UK and what they're doing? They've had the hottest summer on record,I'm in Mayo where even during the supposed heatwave in July there was still rainfall here.

Same in Jersey. 8 weeks since significant rain and temps between 25 and 35c each day. Water temperature in harve de pas seawater pool for my morning swim is 20.5c , bliss.

In itself there was very little about Irish Water I could fault because the previous system of provision had been a disaster, but at a time when there was already a lot of paying-more-for-less it was the straw that broke the camel's back. I seem to recall the screw-ups that lead to rocketing refuse collection costs were around the same time.

We have no infrastructure here, bit of wind and 50,000 people are without power. Hospitals are rented prefabs. Go and look at sligo hospital what they just did there. Schools are rented prefabs. They threw up a few quick build ones there and its all in court cuz they're falling down. Go safe vans, another good deal.

On and on we go....the depleted kinsale gas field that could have been used as a store....but we didn't "exercise that option"....never mind the fact we could have probably been energy independent 15 years ago but YOU are on here writing crap like "going forward"

Bord Gais, the consumer supply firm, was sold. Its an irrelevance, the state still owns a gas consumer supply firm if you want to use one (Electric Ireland)

The old Bord Gais Networks, now Gas Networks Ireland, that own the entire gas infrastructure - as well as the backbone of the NI system, two interconnectors to GB and the connection to the Isle of Man - is still state owned. And nobody has ever proposed selling it.

Lessons were learned after Eircom. Even the most politically suicidal FG government here wouldn't try sell Irish Water. And its basically worthless anyway.
