Why no hose pipe ban yet? Its disgraceful.

The UK have one in parts and we should too. You know what will happen come the end of the week or even midweek there will be water shortages. I just seen my neighbour powerwash his shed for the last hour. It's not like that was really necessary.

I don't believe there's any shortages - there has been quite significant rain here. There hasn't in much of the UK.

Ireland has had No where near temperatures and lack of rainfall that UK had this Summer - there will likely be a conserve water advisory this week due to increased temps and dry spell but this has been one of the coolest and wet summers of recent years

water levels are well monitored here, just as good as other countries, as others have said, we havent experienced the same level of water shortages as other countries, but it probably will be implemented soon, water bodies advise government, and currently, theres obviously no concerns, hence no ban

One of the more sensible taxes / charges i.e. water usage by metering, was shot down by political opportunists. That would help greatly as we go forward. Your neighbour could run his powerwasher all day, water the garden with sprinklers, fill the swimming pool or whatever, but he'd be paying a proper rate for it.

Give something away for free with no limit and it's always abused.

And no, general taxation does not pay for water & sewage for everyone. We like many pay the same taxes and yet fund our own water supplies and sewage.

there's no need for a ban, we've had plenty of rain all summer. We have a 2 week dry spell in July and another one this week, that's it.

...metering makes sense, but the government at the time made an absolute balls of it, their timing was completely wrong, and public confidence was non existing with them at the time, which resulted in its overall fcuk up.....

As mentioned, I don't think there's a shortage in Ireland. Here in UK land it's been drought weather, 25-30 degrees every day, not a drop of rain in weeks. The auld fella suggested I paint the grass to get back some semblance of green - funny fcuker

Why should we bring in a hose pipe ban just because the British have done it?

We have our own water level monitoring in place and are well able to react and respond as necessary- just like we have done in the past.

I've been living between London and Dublin all summer andthe situations are nothing alike. I can't remember the last time a drop of rain fell here in London, grass and plants are yellow straw. It's been around 25C+ and almost cloudless weather daily for months

It would convince me more if it was pelargoniums or lobelia rather than daffodils, daffodils are spring plants. We're never Short of water during the spring. What a dumb picture. I'm not referring to you @is_that_so but the Irish times... daffodils are rarely effected by drought in Ireland.

We don't usually get a hosepipe ban until the grass is scorched and stops growing, it's still very green so no shortage of rain.

OP is being sarcastic surely. They are already planning 7mm of rain at the end of dry spell no need to worry

I've my own well. Water levels are always on my mind as I dont have the luxury of free water at the mains.

I didn't actually say it was part of the decision making though. The 2 usually coincide because restrictions occur during prolonged dry spells.

No doubt you have a solution to that too.

There is no such thing as free water. If you pay taxes you are contributing towards the upkeep and continued maintenance of the water network and associated infrastructure.

Those with a well pay for it, they also pay the same taxes as those of us connected to the mains, so you can see why they call it free water.

I'm paying taxes and also paying for the upkeep of my water supply.

I also pay for the processing of my sewage.

By you're thinking it should be paid for from taxes. If I wanted to connect to the mains, I'd also pay for that.

Why are you basing this off the UK and what they're doing? They've had the hottest summer on record,I'm in Mayo where even during the supposed heatwave in July there was still rainfall here.
