At the end of the day is not the dogs it's mainly the owner that need the training

Can you elaborate on what you mean by a dog being allowed to roam gardens unsupervised or without a muzzle? Please tell me you're not suggesting a dog safely fenced into its owner's garden should be wearing a muzzle?

I was shocked to see that this dog's fate seems to be resting in this woman's hands. Leaving aside the particulars of this case, it's a very odd way for something like this to be decided. It's an emotive topic and I'm not sure the injured party should be the one to make this big decision.

I also think that we're not hearing the full story here and it's not doing either party any favours. Not this old man, nor the woman who was bitten. If the full facts aren't out there at the moment, there's a woman whose reputation is being ripped to shreds. She has been called every name under the sun, accused of having other dogs put to sleep, wants a big payout etc. Are these stories true? If so, it really brings into question the logic of this ridiculous law. Is she really the right person to make this life-changing decision about the dog? It's understandable that this story is going to upset a lot of people and personally, I hope the dog gets returned to her owner. But there's something disturbing about the online lynch mob which has formed around this.

The restricted dog breed list is years out of date. No mention if those American Bully XXL which is Is the dog of choice for a certain element of society. A child or pet would have no chance against one of these dogs. It’s not necessarily the dog, more how it’s raised.

The dog is dangerous and should be put down. Can I also say I am tired of seeing dogs pissing everywhere. People taking their dogs on walks and the dogs are pissing all over the place not to mention the excrement that you see as well. I understand that people like breathing in dog piss but not me.

Agree on sh1tting but how do you suggest the owner cleans up when their dog pisses. Dogs pissing is fairly harmless and is actually the way dogs communicate.

Just the world we live in isn't it. People love to moan and give out about something. I got bitten by a dog when i was 6 years of age outside a supermarket as it went for my ice cream. No biggie mam and dad brought me down to the local doctor for some sort of injection and that was that. Dogs owner paid the doctor bill. Getting the animal killed because of something so minor is ridiculous.

This kind of mentality is how children end up with serious injuries and many killed by dogs annually.

You know, if you weren't able to use a bathroom you would be pissing and **** all over the place too.

I'd guess that your piss smells far worse than any dogs.

    Uncharacteristically my ar$e.

Biting is absolutely what uncontrolled dogs do.

The victim should have no discretion: if a dog bites , it needs to be actioned.

Apparently not the first pooch she had sent to doggy heaven

She is looking for a large payout. She was part of a walker.grouo who walked.past this man's rural house little dog ran out barking and she lashed a kick at it and it nipped her. Not the first time she has been bitten two other dogs put down so bit of form here. Also reading tonight she is going to sue another pensioner who seemed to make public some of the details of what happened.

I wish the law would show a portion of that kind of consideration for victims of random thuggery/antisocial behaviour/assaults instead of a light slap on the wrist after the umpteenth time they've done it.

I was bitten by a dog when I was a kid, didn't feel the need to have it put down nor did my parents. Used to pet it for years afterwards. Don't know what set her off that morning but of the owner is agreeing to control dog etc then I'm not sure I agree with dog being put down on the say so of the "victim"........

I first spotted the story in Gript where they interviewed the man.

The wagon is far a bigger danger to dogs than any dog is to her.

Its what I read plus I heard about it as its the talk of the town where she is from. Supposedly she got money both times so that's why she wants the poor little dog put down so she can pursue her claim. There is loads of talk about it on FB if you search by her name.

At the end of the day a little Jack Russell ain't going to cause serious harm its not like its a Rottweiler or Pit Bull.

The owner offered to take the dog to a behaviourist and to muzzle train. From the information we have gotten about the case, that seems a fair and appropriate action.

Ex garda too, says it all. I seen a link on Facebook a couple of days ago but didn't read it and posted in the comments it was probably a nip and turns out I was right. I was bit a few times over the years(pierced skin too) and I also got nipped walking out a pub door but unlike that cow I never done anything about the times I was bit. Common sense should be seen in court. Yes if a dog bit me and was really vicious then yes I would say that dog needs to be destroyed but little nips by tiny dogs now come on. The world is gone crazy.

She also deserves all the bad press she is getting.

The dog now has a taste for blood now.

Dogs are too stupid to be trained to use a litter box. The idea that they can be trained out of biting, after having done so, is laughable.
