Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Trampas, avoid that area for eating. There's a couple of fine pizzerias on calle del Mar. One up near the top, number 3 or something. Marinetta de Mar. And further down there's Al Pomodoro. I wouldn't do take away, tbh. You can always hop in a taxi if your accommodation is a bit further away.

There's a fine Italian spot called Madre Masa (I think that's what it's called!!) It's in the old town, calle Baja.

    Masa Madre!!!

Thanks. More a case of just picking up a few pizzas if no room to sit down in late afternoon or early evening. I’m staying in a hotel just a street or two off carrer de colon

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,019 ✭✭✭Itziger

Oh, nearly forgot La Pizza (I know), that's close to where you are I'd say. Ate there a couple of months ago. Very good. How many are you , might need to book.

About 10 of us in total but we are spread all over the place. I’m with the other half so could be just 2

Hi folks, It is fair chilly here early in the morning (Im up already since 6am local time) so ye might need a plastic bag or cheap long sleeve top for tomorrow morning.

A lazy day ahead for me from my Fawlty Towers Airbb...

    Enjoy Valencia and the Run.

    Vamos

Good luck all tomorrow. May we all finish and have a great experience

Best of luck for everyone running. Amazing weather for it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,019 ✭✭✭Itziger

Don't know how the others got on. I did Half this morning and that was plenty. 1,42.xx which I was happy with. Look forward to some real race experiences though. Tyris on Tap this evening for a couple of beers?

3:08:56 for me for a 3:22 min on. Just kept picking up the pace all the way through. No complaints on the weather. Seem to be a few fallers around the place. The straight @ 22km I don’t think I’ll ever love. I just can’t wait for the turn around 28km

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,742 ✭✭✭4Ad

    What time in Tyris ?

I had a great rn, PB..So as high as a kite....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,019 ✭✭✭Itziger

I was thinking 7 but I'm very close so if that's too late and you prefer 6.... I've been known to be tempted.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,742 ✭✭✭4Ad

I'm out the door soon..so less than an hour or less...alcoholic tendancies.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,019 ✭✭✭Itziger

Well 4Ad, nice meeting ya fella. I think you enjoyed meeting Emma too!! Her husband took the news like a man. Hey, any day you run a 2.49 pb you're allowed a bit of leeway. Well done lad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,019 ✭✭✭Itziger

How did your race go, Trampas?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,019 ✭✭✭Itziger

    Oooops, just remembered. 😄

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,792 ✭✭✭Trampas

Yes. I’m signing up for next year now while the knots still remain in my legs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,678 ✭✭✭DeepBlue

I assume general registration for 2024 isn't open yet but those who ran in 2023 can register?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,019 ✭✭✭Itziger

Yeah, pre registration for 2023 participants at the moment.

This day next week for non 2023 participants.

I'm also back in for 2024 and 3 in a row. Ran 3'29'02 this year and normally this would be disappointing but after running over a nail, getting a stitch and tetanus and mostly unable to run for 4 weeks, I'm absolutely delighted.

Love the city, the tour de France mountain stage feel for last 2k, just incredible, highly recommend.

Guys hoping to get registered on Tuesday, what time does registration open to the general public and does it sell out on the day? And also do your current recent marathon time dictate the starting wave?

My best marathon time would be 3.15 but hopefully with a good training block I'll try for sub 3

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,792 ✭✭✭Trampas

Hadnt sold 9000 last time I checked on Friday out of 35000 spots. You’ll be grand anytime on Tuesday to enter. you need a sub 3:12 to get into the 3-3:12 wave or about 90 minutes half.

  • Registered Users Posts: 344 ✭✭fennor72

Thanks for that, do you know if your best time can be edited during the year, I've entered Cork in June so would a sub 3.12 time there do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,792 ✭✭✭Trampas

You’ve got till November or something to post a time

  • Registered Users Posts: 91 ✭✭Manone

I updated my target time based on my Dublin time this year, so roughly mid November. They had me in a wave 45 minutes slower than target otherwise.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,792 ✭✭✭Trampas

Opens at noon today which I assume is 11am here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,678 ✭✭✭DeepBlue

Signed up even though I can't run a km at MP at the moment. Hopefully it will be a different story by the time this rolls around. Nice to have a carrot to aim for.

how do ye get there lads, where do ye fly in to?

looks like ryanair dont fly there that time of year.

do ye go into Barcelona and get a train down?

Ryanair do fly direct, they just haven't released the winter 2024 flights yet.

You can fly into both Madrid and Barcelona and get the high speed train, but with a marathon, I'd prefer to fly direct.

  • Registered Users Posts: 70 ✭✭quintain

    thank you

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,792 ✭✭✭Trampas

It was around May last year I booked the flights and that was when they released the scheduled. I few headed over via Madrid and said the train down was great. Depends on cost but if I was doing that I’d be doing it on the Friday

  • Registered Users Posts: 70 ✭✭quintain

thank you trampas, i will keep an eye out for the flights in a few weeks time.

i'm thinking maybe fly in to Valencia, and afterwards get the train to Madrid and fly from there after staying a couple of nights.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,742 ✭✭✭4Ad

You could also look at Alicante, and get a train up, 2-2.5 hour journey.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,792 ✭✭✭Trampas

Accommodation prices really gone up this year. Just looking at a place I stayed in last year is sold out but gone up about 15% from what I can work out

I had a hotel booked for €560 for 2 nights. Went back to a previous Airbnb host and I've now got a flat for €260, close to the start.

Feeling a lot better now as the hotel price had me feeling uncomfortable.

    Maybe give Airbnb a go.

Myself, my wife and about 8 others from our local club are heading over this year - first time for most of us. I'm really looking forward to it….meant to be a great fast course and a bit of sun in December will be a cherry on top. Myself and wife have a hotel room booked as a backup but we are looking to get an AirB&B for maybe 6-8 of us if possible but not a lot showing as available already.

Got 2:54 in Dublin last year so I'll put in a good training effort and try for a sub 2:50.

How many boardies will be heading over in December?

  • Registered Users Posts: 58 ✭✭kd82

Starting to look at plans now. Really looking forward to it the more I hear about it. I had a Dublin entry but this was on a whim as a friend was going over and I was thinking more of a support but now I'm thinking I should focus on Valencia.

Nothing booked yet, was waiting to see what flights came up but probably looking at a Friday/Monday trip. I should probably get a room at this point.

Have a place myself, but nothing booked as of yet while I wait for flights and such (and y‘know, tell the wife about it!). Probably a lot of it also depends on how spring marathon goes next week as well.

maybe those who have done it before have an idea of when flights appear? Likely to go AirBnB myself to sort myself out but hard to judge exactly at the moment until transport over is sorted. But get through next week first!

I looked back in my Gmail for last year and it was May 19th when I booked.

  • Registered Users Posts: 64 ✭✭jconn

two of us heading over this year, good info on the flights thanks. I was going to book DUB>ALICANTE but if direct flights come available to Valencia in May thats great

  • Registered Users Posts: 183 ✭✭Diablo Verde

Back at this again this year. Still a while off but beginning to get excited.

We've flown to Madrid a few times and traveled down by train, and it's never been all that much of a hassle.

  • Registered Users Posts: 58 ✭✭kd82

Ryanair flights are up now for those who were looking. 280 return for Fri-Mon

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,792 ✭✭✭Trampas

I heard. The Sunday flight is not an option. I’ve booked the outbound flight

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,320 ✭✭✭splashthecash

We booked ours last night - flying out on Thursday and returning home on Monday was €600 for two people

Flying over there on Friday was coming in very expensive (as of last night anyway)

    No going back now!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 542 ✭✭✭racersedge

made some similar decisions myself. Flying Thursday given the price and actually coming back on Tuesday. Made the decision to bring (in reality, bribe) the wife and the two kids over to make a mini-trip out of it - wife hits a milestone birthday so an excuse for it! For what the cost would have been to come back on Monday pretty much covers an extra night in the AirBnB I have booked.

But yeah, definitely no going back on it now as you say!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,237 ✭✭✭Wottle

I've booked outbound flights / for my wife and I, €308. Last year there was a late night flight home on the Sunday, so going to hold out for that.

    205 days to go!

Is there any way around having to attend the expo to collect race numbers Sat eve i.e. post them out? Or does anyone know the latest time for collection Sat eve?
We're just lookign at the different flight options Madrid and Alicante and train down, Valencia flights look very expensive.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,707 ✭✭✭CR 7

I think if you book one of the official hotels there's an option to have the number sent to that hotel. I'm tempted to do it too this year to avoid the mile long one way maze through the expo.
