The referee in the ARS - NEW game really lost the plot giving out yellows for the same foul one time and then ignoring it for another.

The pull on Gabriel by Burn is quite something. Struggling to see the logic in it not being given or even properly inspected by the ref pitch side...

Stonewall penalty, amazed it wasn’t even looked at for a review.

I thought the referee lost himself a bit early in the game, gave Newcastle a few first half yellow cards (which I thought were overkill for the incidents carded). He then seemed to remember himself & dished out a couple of yellow cards for soft fouls by Arsenal players, as if to even it up! Crazy!

Klopp deserves to have a few questions asked tbf

"People say ‘go with the flow’ but do you know what goes with the flow? Dead fish."

He lost control of the game the weekend between city and Everton also.

That's giving Spurs and Pool a lot of undeserved credit.

In the Arsenal Newcastle game, the ball was in play for 43 mins and 17 seconds. Pathetic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,677 ✭✭✭doc_17

Maybe, but they have better teams and managers.

Talking about losing control Arteta lost the plot for most of the second half yesterday

I hope Arsenal can pull it off but if he is like that when we are not even half way through i cant see him remaining clam & composed for a title run in, I think they will blow it , He was just constantly screaming at players & officials not what is needed, You can see how they blew the champions league spot

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,328 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

He looked no more out of control than the title winning managers like Pep, Jose and Klopp.

I think yesterday was the first time I actually liked Arteta

To be fair yes Klopp & Pep have done this in big games mostly against each other, title deciding games,

Not before the half way mark of a season & Arteta is at it week in week out recently,

I think he is showing inexperience & wilting under pressure,

Arteta has been like that all season. The 4th officials are so weak. He’s constantly out of the technical area. The solution is so simple. Warning, yellow card, red card. I’m not saying refs are to blame for the abuse they get but when they let Arteta do what he wants on the line of course he’s going to push it and see what else he can get away with in terms of pressurising the officials.

Didn't see that game last night but I do remember one game at Anfield a year or so ago where Arsenal were giving Liverpool a game for 30 odd mins, it was still 0-0 when Liverpool were expected to win. Then Arteta tried to start some nonsense with Klopp and the crowd and he ended up firing up Anfield which in turn fired up the players and Liverpool went on to win 4-0 in a very routine victory.

Then when I read this, I get the impression that maybe he is doing too much perhaps? I've no problem with managers being animated, but I guess there is a line and you have to harness the energy and choose the right time to be up shouting. Doing it for every incident could somewhat dilute the desired message. I know Arsenal are top and what he is doing must be working, but maybe the pressure is getting to him already?

I flagged the Arteta nonsense before Arsenal even got good.

He's worse than them all - Klopp, Mourinho, Pep, Conte - anyone you want to name, at behaving in the technical area. He honestly thinks he owns the entire sideline. He's constantly encroaching onto the pitch. He's an embarrassment down there.

He must obviously be good at pushing the line enough not to get properly reprimanded, but he's an utter nuisance, and it still doesn't get called out.

It's also entertaining how people are only now realising the Newcastle antics. They've been doing that all season against the big teams. People ignored what they did at Anfield because Liverpool got a miracle goal, but last night was a carbon copy. Everyone could've been warned if they weren't so outraged that Liverpool got out of that game with a win.

It is coming back on the officials also for not talking to him or punishing him from leaving the technical area, some games he is near the 18 yard box when Arsenal are attacking going crazy if the move break down or he feels an Arsenal player has been fouled.

    Yeah ok.

Didn’t Pep kick a water bottle at the Everton bench last week?

Conte does be like a lunatic on the sideline and has been this season.

Love how Arteta is annoying opposing fans. Arsenal must be doing good when this stuff happens.

    Long may it last.

If you watch the Arsenal All or Nothing docu-series on Amazon you'll see Arteta is clearly a very passionate and intense character.

They actually had the Amazon cameras at the Liverpool game Fitz referenced above and it's covered in the series.

It's not just fans ,there numerous articles this morning about it & even during the first half Henry Winter from the times was writing he seems to have lost the run of himself,

Its happened when they blew top four last season , he needs to learn from that ,

VVD out for a month with a hamstring injury.

Athletic reporting that Arsenal and Utd are interested in taking Joao Felix on loan. Apparently the deal is €15m loan fee until the end of the season and €6m in wages. That’s a trap if there ever was one!

Milan and Juve both turned him down already because Atleti were asking for too much.

So when Arteta and Pep are animate on the side line and in the face of the 4th official they should be pulled up by the referee, but when it was Klopp at it ever game (and still is) it's described as passion and good to see!

Not true Opta Analyst says it was in play 51:23 which is the 34th lowest of the season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,677 ✭✭✭doc_17

Correct. Sorry, I was looking at a reply to an Opta tweet and didn’t see Opta correcting the original poster.

If you want to make it about Klopp then….Klopp got a ban for his awful behaviour towards a linesman. Arteta is way above what the rest of them are at, running down the line every game and rarely stays inside the technical area.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,656 ✭✭✭✭OwaynOTT

Do they have a stat for how long was Arteta out of the technical area.

probably longer than the play was in play

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 437 ✭✭TipsyMcStagge

He was a disgrace on the line last night constantly screaming at and bullying the 4th official he nearly caused a riot at the end as well! Klopp was banned for similar behaviour Arteta should really get the same for setting such a terrible example.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,753 ✭✭✭✭castletownman

Very simple. The fourth official should have a little flag like in the NFL that they throw on the field immediately after a coach so much as steps an inch out of the technical area, or if they feel they are getting too much of an earful. That serves as the first warning, another flag means sent from the dug-out entirely and suspended for the next game.

That's a bit childish though. If Klopp got a card then so should Arteta seems to be your point. You could compare that to penalties, free kicks, sending offs etc etc. There is no consistency in football and never was. Fergie used to scream at the 4th official and get 'Fergie Time' at the end of a game and he and Wenger were sent to the stand several times.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,677 ✭✭✭doc_17

The solution is so simple. Why don’t they do it.

I think this seems far more likely than the Mudryk deal to be honest. I think Arsenal may have FFP in mind, especially during a winter transfer window, and may not want to overspend

With regards to Arteta, it’s up to the officials to reign him in if they deem it necessary. I’m sure it’ll happen at some stage and he’ll adjust his behaviour accordingly but until such a time comes I can’t see why he’d feel the need
