Cutting Turf 2022.

After many years of not cutting our bank of turf we've decided to get it cut this year for our own use. With the way heating oil prices are rising I reckon that we're better off harvesting and burning our own fossils rather than paying inflated prices for imported stuff. I'm not really looking forward to having to rear and foot it but needs must etc.

Cut a few hoppers this year for myself, heating oil prices are crazy. The stove with the back boiler will be getting plenty of use this winter

Although we'll hardly get as good weather as last year for it. In hindsight, last year was the one to have extra cut... the weather was so good it reared itself in spite of ya!

Absolutely....by the time I got to the end of the footing last year it was straight into the bagging as the turf that were footed first were dry.

The last 3 years were good for turf, I have a notion this summer is going to a rough one

Interesting, I always thought it was a turf only thing. Not sure I have anyone ever said ‘rear hay’ - thinking about it, you mostly hear ‘save hay’ or ‘make hay’ down here…

It has rained an awful lot here over the last few weeks. The sods have a good skin on them but the bank was still fairly wet last Sunday. Hopefully/fingers crossed the weather forecast is correct and we get the expected sunny dry spell.

When rearing turf I don't bother going to the bog anymore unless I've sprayed my clothing/hair with Jungle Formula 55% DEET Maximum fly/mosquito repellent cause the feckin midges would live in your nose if they could.

So what is the "That's" as the first word in your post referring to if not the suggestion that we may need a community wide approach to the question of burning or buying turf?

I have never seen as many tourists in this part of the world as this weekend and I surmise it is to do with the record heat waves in Europe and beyond as the cooler countries become more attractive to Tom and Teresa Tourist.

The "Thats" was in reference to unasked unwanted persons being given the right to enter private property against of the stated wishes of the owners, without the owners being suspected of or charged with any crime. There are ample ways to check compliance with agri-schemes, planning law, turf cutting legislation (it isn't legally prohibited) without diminishing ownership rights by unauthorized trespass.

I'll wager I know a hell of a lot more about the tourist industry in Ireland than you do, and i cam assure you that the current temperature in mainland Europe has little or nothing to do with numbers here.

It's lost all its meaning when you apply it to anyone who even hints at questioning the new religion.

But seeing as you asked, no, - it isn't. I'm well aware that we as a species are causing climate change by our actions.

I'm also well aware that as long as the GP and their acolytes keep on their current path of taxing us until we all agree with their approach to it, that nothing will change and we're truly fxxcked.
