Sorry if this has been asked before

Wrote to my local council about placing some fences on land I recently bought and was advised that I needed all kinds of paperwork and official land registry maps before I can seek approval.

Seems an awful lot of bother since the fences, the most important of which will be used to divide my land from that of a neighbor - will have minimal environmental impact.

Anyone had a similar experience or can offer any advice?

Thanks in advance for your help

Are there any fences, hedges or walls there now? Even in very bad condition?

If so, just fire ahead. If anybody from the council happens to wander past and object to your fences you can deal with it.

Do it before your neighbour's livestock gets too comfortable on your land.

FFS, if there's a boundary you need to partition you should fire away. I'd say maybe check requirements if you're putting it by a road or fencing a road entrance, but anything else sounds like bureaucracy gone nuts.
