Just bear this in mind if you are thinking of lending them your vote at the next election. Their guy going around putting up Mary-Lou posters has 23 previous criminal convictions.

Plenty of other parties to vote for if you want to vote against the government.

Don't think they can say anything else. It's the Indo that's making it an SF headline when it's really one about a criminal - and I suspect all parties have supporters who commit criminal offences. Yes he was acting for the party at the time, but it's really a story about a criminal act and not a political party

Seeing a false equivalency, like this, makes me less likely to vote for the other main parties to be honest. It immediately reminds me of all the criminal acts their elected politicians have gotten up to and which their supporters can, so easily, brush under the carpet.

There is a big difference between an article about, say, a man who used to work as a security guard in McDonalds back in the day who was later done for punching a randomer, and a story about a security guard in McDonalds who was done for punching a randomer while working for McDonalds.

The accused's criminal record had previous 10 convictions under the Road Traffic Act, one for assault, three public order offences, four drugs charges, and possessing a weapon, failing to appear in court and criminal damage.

If those are the people being sent around by any organisation to do any work that involves interaction with the public, people are entitled to ask questions.

If he was acting in the course of employment when he did what he did, the employer would be vicariously liable. I would say that, if the issue was pushed, the party could also be vicariously liable here.

In addition, the article says he was hanging the posters with another man ......... the other man apparently wasn't arsed enough at seeing his buddy attack a man more than double his age (34 v 78) to try to stop him.

Well the false equivalence would be pretending that other parties "cover up".

Haughey for example was a thieving gangster. I doubt - although I could be wrong - that you will find FF heads who will swear blind to you that he was innocent (even though I don't think that he was ever convicted). If you mention Haughey, I don't think the FF heads will go into victim persecution mode like you'll see whenever a SF person is mentioned, or the reflex "whaddabout" reaction

his past crimes ? well who knows one of them is for possession of a weapon apparently, thats about as sf as you can get crime wise right ?

yes there are criminals in other party's but the amount of murderers and bombers fraudsters smugglers and assorted thugs that have sf links is a real and valid cause for concern

When I was down home at my folks place before the last GE I saw that some of the local "hard men" were handing out fliers on behalf of SF. Maybe that seed of populist nationalism was always there with them, but some of these lads were the sort who would have been the go-to if looking for a 10-spot of hash, or the type to avoid if not looking for a random beating outside the chipper about 20 years back.

Not a Valley of the Squinting Windows sort at all, but there is an element amongst SF activists that needs to be looked at in more detail.
