I did yeah, I'm laid up at the moment (nothing serious, just a bit of tendonitis) so this is stopping me going mental from the boredom.

No bet (too short), just an interesting watch, remember this Blindedbythelights met all sorts of trouble lto, now he's quickly being turn out here for compensation, I hope it's not too much for him.

a one time and legendary poster on here once advanced (in a now deleted post iirc) idea of "study hubs" and the likes , and he mentioned about punting being an 'art form'

had to agree with him 😃

anyroad, Muscutt won at least twice on Bernadine.. was at a diff meet today.. one ride - one winner, for another 'James' : James Ferguson

didn't see in advance, as me main (only - pretty much) study just involvede lst ~5 races at Nottingham and no much else.. anyhow, winner was Cheelamy, in 3.25Newbs

mightn't (didn't actually, as had a look after) have picked it strictly on form ats, but there be other reasons other than form for picking winners 🙂

    #finlandwasrobbed#alwaysrespect'pagejumpers' 🤣 🙈

had a quick look at em all <all that's left that is - field down to five, from 8 declared> in that Newbury 5.05 race

thoughts: what with there being plenty of angles: inexperienced horses, some decent AW form and the possibility, or otherwise, of transferring said AW form to the turfe (of the ones that aint raced on turf , or at ~this trip on that surface) , plus a prohibitively and seemingly bestpriced 2/5 jolly, this luuks epitomy of 'no bet race'

verdict: no bette , don't even give it a second look - scares me this race 😆

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,165 ✭✭✭hayrabit

okay missus - seein' as ur a pal an' all; me nd ole leff ('member him 😄) had a look for you and me and everybody !!.... 😁

    5.40 Haydock

plenty of hit and miss form at or about this trip on top o' t'ground

some have to make cases for stepping up in trip... so lotsa angles tbs

    two stood out:

Willard Creek was one, but price aint great @ ~ 5s

and t'other, the j topweight BUNKER BAY 4/1 NAP .... went close at Yarms 2 runs back, Australia bred gelding, f/t visor = few 'green shoots' 😊

not really my kinda race, but happy with price o' pick anyhoo,,,,

thread getting a lotta views (relative to usual amt)

either they've recalibrated, and every hit counts as a 'view' , or there's, individually, more folkes chooning in 😊

usually only gets ~30 hits a day - @ 2.00pm it had 20,333 views ('hits', whateva,,,) nd now it's up to 20,442

so o'er a hundred folke chooned in 2day

    Lucky last at Haydock.

The race the aptly named I still have faith ran in lto has thrown up 3 winners already, including Royal Athena (half length ahead) who beat Blinded by the lights (hacked up at Newbury earlier today) lto at Lingfield.

Tudhope sticking around for the ride looks a good sign, worth a bet at 7's for me.

    not a bad day y'day,, 😊 we'll go again 🤣

glanced at a few cards/races but some/most didn't appeal, and others, well, just too many selections..

    try one:

    Sandown - Good to Firm

    3.50

a race with a fair few lightly raced 3yo's, which sees Crisford's Penzance, as shortpriced 5/4 fav.. some good placed form from latest run, when his hcap outing saw him come 2nd over almost identical trip at Chelmsford.. if as good on turf, then that's an okay price, but easy for me to overlook

pen landed on Sean Woods' SEA ME DANCE 40/1 EW. will overlook lto run at Ascot, as was ran on soft ground and horse tried making all - ultimately finishing last of five. went off at 5s for that race, and the same price the race prior, so must be reasonably well thought of

seems to be one what likes to lead; has some placed AW form from three runs in total - all in races over a mile; will need to improve on them to figure here, imo, but is by Sea The Stars, so perhaps ~10f on turf will suit. don't know what price I think he should be, but could well, on another day, be a lot shorter than 40s i suppose

that a tricky Cl3 7f hcap in second last, the 4.45 at York; had 4 picks there with still another 3 or four horses in that race to look at, so just let it off. the prices weren't great neither... left that one off

    ah well,,,

    Gl :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,065 ✭✭✭j@utis

okay, let the fun begin 🤣 a bit of a racing lottery but I have an inkling that an extra furlong would suit him today, 2:50 Chep - Noo Point 10/3, quite supported on the debut, started well but couldn't keep on with the speeder types.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,165 ✭✭✭hayrabit

    Chepstow - Good to Firm

    2,15

a five runner Cl5 Restricted Novice Stakes.. a trappy affair. Ala Kaifi might lead here

Swift Hawk did nowt wrong lto when finishing 2nd of three over ~1.5m at Leicester on Good to Firm. SWIFT HAWK 9/2 WIN, will do me here at prices. not too enamoured over Haggas' 1/2 jolly, Lordship. having come 2nd lto in a similar race at Haydock, it's more a reflection of lack of strength in depth that has this fav as short as he is imo, than the actual quality of the horse,, Sire was born in 2003, and it's surprising that I aint never heard of Lord Of England, but that relatively unknown sire is more'n enough to put me off jolly,, hoping race pans out by Ala Kaifi leading and Lordship pouncing

Ivan Furtado newcomer is interesting.. bought cheap as #1yo (#almost 2yo) in Sept '21, this colt will be having his first run today, having been a non for his only previous declaration - back in August of last year. L Dettori retiring this year, so could the name of Nelly's 😆 , beast: - Frankie's Wish , be a clue here ?/? 😃

    ach i dinna,

    #finlandwasrobbed#gowandadrifters#2moro'sanudderday 😄

    🤲

I only read your post to the race you picked, and went off to look at it myself first, and guess what? My first thought was "See Me Dance is what leff would pick" 🤣 She was beaten by 3l by Running Lion in one of her maidens, RL is now rated 98, other maidens produced a few now rated into 80s, so she's not without an ability but it's not easiest handicap race to start her career as a handicapper now.

eta: it's too tricky race with many ??? I'd typically try not to get involved in something like this, also class4 races is where my most losses occur 🤣

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,165 ✭✭✭hayrabit

Goodwood - Good to Firm (Good in places)

three picks here - race looks wide open

    6.40

    VAYNOR 7/1 EW , SONGO 11/1 EW , WILDERNESS 15/2 EW

between them they have good win/place form @ ~1m6f on tracks like Notty and Salisbury on top of ground. gave them all once over, and not gonna over analyse this

only hope that Notts/Salisbury form is 'transferable' to @Goodwood #:eek:ifi'swrongincorrectonthatscore 😌

still, three picks is a lot. could be sign to leave off studying for today - have too much and enough did !

    g'luckall :)O)

NOO POINT 10/3 it is then in 2,50. lil form on offer - I daresay MART 5s is also open to improvement in that same race, so win on that one also + 'ye#cheeky'#'reversoforecasto'also

    🙂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,165 ✭✭✭hayrabit

no joy there - 2nd to facile winning favooreet 😢

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,065 ✭✭✭j@utis

Vaynor - progressive last year, probably needed that first run this year, too keen early and that was in a hot class2, so can be forgiven, chances.

Songo - hit the form around this time last year, played up on return this season, so that run can be written off, strong jockey booking.

Wilderness - I dunno, good effort lto but that could be once off thing too, me not fancy this one

    ***

fav Raven's Ark 11/4 - course specialist albeit without winning but has gone close/not far away on all visits here, only beaten by 1l on his return this season in 0-95 contest, winner of that Sheer Rocks has gone in again, rated 89, also Savvy Night from the same race won again off 87, Raven's Ark is running off 80 today, jockey's SR fine, trainer's so so...

another well supported Crescent Lake won over CD on penultimate start on soft ground but couldn't repeat that on GF next time out...

Also State Of Bliss, you know that type, that comes straight out from jumps, fit and ready to strike, below last winning mark... urgh it's getting tricky. Shall we get involved or not.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,065 ✭✭✭j@utis

It's frikin raining, well drizzling, no sunbathing today, my ScreFix order isn't here yet either, so only cooking, sorting and cleaning planned for today, and racing of course 😂

    Sunday 18th June

Salisbury - Good to firm - firm in places

    2,15

3yo Apprentice Handicap. going on form here, and not on 'ratings' or 'potential' (some v lightly raced types having only 1st or 2nd hcap runs here, but overall form poor or only moderate) will provisionally go with Rachel & Bridger's PENNY BE ~4/1 WIN, who put in improved showing lto at the course,, was over shorter and on Good ground,,, seemed to be staying on at the end over that 6furlong trip, and ended up 5th,,, interesting that the horse seen fair support then. expecte extra ~furlong to suit here

not sure about draws (PB in nine box) and their bias at this course, so will need to consider that too...

    still a while away tho

not bad "looking forwards" (prov)pick there if i do say so myself 😃

tomorrow's cards look unappealing - lotta races with only ~6 or so runners across the meets 😏

    soon time for T'golf 💆 😊

a lil bit of bsery goes a long way

if ya wanna appear 'knowledgeable' on horsey punting in front of other supposed knowledgeable types; ya could do worse than go on about new sire, BLUE POINT

can use words like "2yo winners" , "sprint trips" , "precocious types" and the like... "jayzus, he's fair gettin' da winners, that Blue Point.... #I've been following him for a while,, etc, etc,, " , and then leave, perhaps, lest someone gette to grillin' ya o'er yer overall punting philosophy/s 😃

note to self: Ed Bethell in form , and so is the 9yo sire, Blue Point... i wonder does he know, over in his stable there in America (?? dunno where he's based) how famous he's gettin' ?

    golf time

    #finlandwasrobbedand#'gwanthedrifters'#bequidsinwithmissusj@utis'#NooPoint#division1picking :)

good luck with reste o yer picks and puntes, folkes, if ye be doin' owt #2day

for all me talk of pagejumpers, i could've backed that #Hashtag-Joa over in France just now

ws roarin' at telly on all , for him her just to get placed 🙂😁 still think she weren't beaten outta third spot.. but that's moi 😛

    ah well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,165 ✭✭✭hayrabit

WOODIE FLASH 11/2 WIN, is friendly price in 6,10 Fontwell. 5 runners - could be trappy,, capable of going close, early days in all their careers, hard to know how race will pan out,, Jenny Candlish's jolly is waay too short

not expecting much as lotsa q's - if in with a live chance 2 out, then that's good enough (i say now 😂) ,, nd owt else be bonus

worried about drifters today, so really hope Glorious Mist don't win, altho the drift (coming back in a bit now it seems, so "level par" for t'day, ie non drifter 😃 ) is puttin' me off almost as much as the trainer (a lesser light he is, but we all had to start off somewhere 😄)

    that's definitely it :)

could have backed K Burke's in last at York, as he goes well in these sorta races yada yada - but didn't, so there's that 😉

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,165 ✭✭✭hayrabit

ran a good race, but only finished 2nd - to the odds-on jolly. made a few mistakes; was always behind fav, but winner was deserved after cuttin' out most of donkey's ...

one more race to go 🙇, the 6,40Gd ; surely get a run for us money in that - with trois pickes 😋

have chance of getn each way part of ew dble/s up after two races gone <sole pick in each> , with the first being the 9/2 shot, Swift Hawk, what come second earlier to odds on poke at Chepstow ; and t'other one were the unlucky (unlucky not to get third place for ew returns - never in with winning chance) Rab Havlin partnered Sea Me Dance, at Sandown, earlier :(

pity that; would have had plenty good 'reasons to be cheerful' then, with a a very good chance of getting at least one of ~seven possible ew dbls up - and even a few ew trebles...as did them for coppers an' all

not to be 😢😛😰 might get summat yet tho

    :smileyfaceemoji:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,065 ✭✭✭j@utis

Meh to that 6:40, I went with Raven's Ark at the end, finished 2nd again... Crescent Lake wins.

got one place there (3rd Vaynor finished) - loss incurred but was being a bit too confident with three in race like that, but t'other two ran great races tbf

    -----------

@j@utis , ya might've missed one there earlier. horse had Roaring Lion , and Fit from the Jumps, both, as solid "sound winning claims" (not exactly heh, but trained by renowned jumps' trainer, Alan King, so close enoughhe) to their credit/s in the +stakes - as ya mentioned in two of your earlier posts. horse were Lionella, in 5,oc Sandown

    not easy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,165 ✭✭✭hayrabit

after 7,oc in the PM , and, between Irish and across pond fixtures, there's still 16 races to go 😲

don't seem right that somehow 🙂

not gonna tempt me (unless me's chooned in when ms @j@utisse has some o' her legendaire inspiration --- or mebbe not hehegeheh :pac: ) to do any more studyee or puntee

anyroad, me might hit road or go for overdue walk -or summat- as doin' nowt more today

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,065 ✭✭✭j@utis

True, it's not easy. You have to make this full time job +many overtime hours to go through every runner in every race and even then, you're not guaranteed to come on top because you have to have that 6th sense or the gut feeling too (which I don't have lol but my husband does).

Today I only looked at the 4 races in total, 3 bets, a couple of points up, that'll do me for today... No jumps, no irish for me, those don't tempt me and the rest of the Goodwood doesn't inspire me at all... I'll watch replays for next half hour or so, notebook needs to be updated.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,065 ✭✭✭j@utis

How do they assign horses to classes in maiden races? Is it based on trainers opinion how good they think their horse is? Class 5 maiden, class 2 maiden? I don't get this part.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,493 ✭✭✭Flaneur OBrien

It’s this dedication to research that I could never manage. My da was amazing at it, but had an accident which left him with slight brain damage. His memory isn’t so good now. He still places bets, less than he used to and for a lot less than he used to! He calls his betting his Christmas fund these days 😂

Im sorry that I won’t be able to give tips or anything, but I like the back and forth on this thread, and the ups and the downs.
