does anyone know what pre-employment checks entail? Do they ask for a reference before they actually tell you which Department you’ll be assigned? I’m reluctant to ask my manager for a reference which will let them know I’m wanting to leave without knowing exactly where I’m going! 🙈

Can anyone advise roughly where they are at with Galway and Westmeath?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11 AidanBol

I've emailed PAS for an update on Waterford.....called all candidates up to and including batch 6 so due to call from batch 7 when positions are available...as stated previously moving at snails pace unfortunately

Does anyone know when this panel closes?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 976 ✭✭✭furrybones

You will be asked to provide details of references and PAS will contact them prior to any offer being made. I believe the wording they use is “your are under consideration….” and assuming all is well with your clearance checks you’ll be offered the position.

Edit: you won’t be told where your department is until you get your notification of assignment, after clearance.

Hi I have been asked to confirm my expression of interest for an interview in Louth, doing this will rule me out from being considered for my other county of preference. Anyone else received same notification ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12 Freddie2018

Hi PAS confirmed with me this panel closes June2024

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11 AidanBol

Possibility of it being extended if there isn't another panel in place by the time it expires PAS informed me last week

I got eo last June, started on scale 4 does anyone know if I'll skip any scales like you did on co?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 926 ✭✭✭Vologda69

You skip the points only once. So if you have skipped points 4 and 8 on the CO scale already, no further skips are due. However if you only skipped point 4 on CO scale before promotion, then you would skip point 8 on EO scale.

If an internal comps comes up do you do all the usual aptitude tests ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 926 ✭✭✭Vologda69

Some depts like Revenue use tests, others like Social Protection just use mix competency based interviews/presentations

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,119 ✭✭✭✭shmeee

Yes, PAS sent out multiple emails this week for expression of interest for interview in various Counties.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12 Freddie2018

I was quite disappointed that I am ruled out of my other county of choice, happy I got the offer of interview though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,119 ✭✭✭✭shmeee

It's a strange system that makes zero sense. You don't even get the chance to progress to potential interview for what could be your number 1 location. You can see how OOM can drop a few places all of a shot due to people who have to pull out of one location if they take an "expression of intense" for an interview. No guarantee of even getting an interview even!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12 Freddie2018

I know it's super strange, hope I get an interview

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31 monaghan2022

hi, what oom around are you for Louth?

I’m over 60 Só probably not this panel

    Thank you

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 93 ✭✭Fiona Marie

any update on the Kerry panel?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28 ali1993

I’m on the panel for my location after passing my interview and I’m next to be called should any new vacancies be logged for my current location. I’m anxious at the way this is phrased, “should” any new vacancies come up. Does anyone have an experience where they were next to be placed, but lucked out because the panel closed? I’m anxious as this panel is closing soon and I’ll be so annoyed having gone through the process and the interview only to luck out on the timing like surely they have to call if I’ve made it this far 🙈

Query for you... when you got EO, did you apply for HEO internal (eg did you get EO in Revenue for example, and apply for HEO in Revenue) or was it HEO open competition?

Any recommendations for coaches that would help with interviews?

Hi there, I’d highly recommend Mark Kehoe. He provides interview preparation for all grades in the Civil Service and helps with application forms. He gives a great insight into what assessors and interviewers are looking for in Civil Service competitions. He’ll do practice interviews with you so you’ll be well prepared. I’ve got his help before and he’s an absolute gent. His number is 086 881 6034

I’m currently going through pre employment checks at the moment, but not 100% sure I want to take this position. Deciding factor will mainly be what department I’m assigned! Do they give an option to decline, or is it a bit of a pickle if I am assigned somewhere and I decide to decline it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 358 ✭✭carleigh

If you decline the offer you are off the panel unfortunately and have to reapply and go through the whole process again the next time.

    Internal DSP EO circulated today

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,294 ✭✭✭Guffy

Does this only apply to DSP staff or internal to all civi service?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 810 ✭✭✭jkmanc1974

only DSP - annoyingly competition closing date is 1 day before my 2 years is up as a CO - ah well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 926 ✭✭✭Vologda69

Testing included for the first time…lot of unhappy work colleagues

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24 Tupence

I was very taken aback by this for internal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 66 ✭✭Poolbabe

If you were a tco in dsp before it might count?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 810 ✭✭✭jkmanc1974

no doesn’t count - started as TCO 1 day after the closing date - ie 20th June 22 - hopefully an open competition comes up, also there are plenty of retirements coming up soon in the office that am based in

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 976 ✭✭✭furrybones

If you started on June 20th, 2022 then your 2 years would up be on June 19th, 2024. June 20, 2024 would be the first day of year 3. So if the closing date is June 19th you should definitely put in an application.

I just got an email asking me to confirm my interest in Nsso.

Honestly I'm not too enthusiastic about Nsso but should I confirm it as its so late in the campaign? If I get called for interview and don't get the job I'm out completely then. There's always a chance thrt will extend the campaign or so I've heard. I understand if I'm not called for interview that I won't be out of the game. Does anyone have any experience or advice on this? Thanks

Hi, I had interview and was offered Drogheda, I declined as I had put Dundalk and Ardee as my preferences (they had asked for preferences after interview was passed, I also had to send a copy of qualifications, hopefully get offered something before panel closes in Sept

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31 monaghan2022

did they tell you it’s extended until September? I thought it closed this month.

I see clerical is opening on Friday

fingers crossed you get called 😊

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11 AidanBol

Received an update through PAS on message board to say the competition has been extended until 27/09/2024.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 142 ✭✭Newbie12345The

Simlar, im only about 15 places behind both interdepartmental/open - hope they go fast

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31 monaghan2022

    I didn’t get that but I’m 18 off Louth and it’s only at 50 in 2 years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 64 ✭✭Inmate2020

frustrating that they are about to start a new competition . Wicklow hasn’t moved a jot since September last . I was called for interview for Dublin march 2023 but chose to remain in wicklow .. how stupid was I 🥵 here we go again eh !!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,119 ✭✭✭✭shmeee

I know it's all hindsight but with WFH, I know a good few who selected Dublin on the EO panel and have been placed pretty easily. They will end up commutting 1 or 2 days per week but at least in an EO role and can start applying for mobility and the next EO panel too. Some counties, people have been stuck on number 1 or 2 OOM for shy of a year and nothing moving.
