Contractor Charges 2022

Anyone have an idea what the current charges are. I got a price for doing slurry agitation only of €60+VAT / hour. I have no idea what silage is going to come in at, last year before the **** hit the fan I heard cut, bale & wrap was at €14. With the new Diesel prices I'm expecting €16 but haven't heard of any prices yet

It must be a small agitator. Agitating was €60 an hour around here years ago, in or around €90 plus vat at the minute.

I wouldn’t ring the silage contractor we use asking that.

Not sure why. Have no real choice but to use him so the price is the price.

Cashflow is going to be key for contractors this year with the price of diesel being so prone to swings in pricing. Pay on the day or the next wet spell will the name of the game here when paying contractors this year.

If we don't we are going to lose a good number of guys who are providing a big service to us farmers. You could see swings in pricing for pit silage on a weekly basis depending if there is big swings in oil prices

I see an article on Agriland saying a precision chop outfit burns a little over 3000l a day. I suppose that’s for round 100 acres so 30 litres an acre roughly.

Last may diesel was 60 cent before vat. It is now 112cent. So say near 60cent extra a litre. So €18 more an acre more for diesel costs. We paid €110 an acre last year so I would consider €130 a fair price this year if they start talking about a diesel surcharge.

I don’t cut silage, so doesn’t affect me directly. Just commenting that it’s not only diesel has gone up…

No but the tank was agitated 12 months prior but has sat there since. It's a 7 ft deep tank 4 bay but has a middle agitation point which is unusual for the age of the shed. He reckons 4 hours work and it'll be 240+

I'm not complaining as my own Tractor is out of action for the next few weeks and I'm after getting this tank of slurry to use

this year we are charging €9 inc vat for baling and wrapping (no plastic included),rake and Tedding €12+vat and mowing €15+vat

Yeah the mowing sounds like a last year's disc mowing price. Fair play anyway for posting your prices.

Definitely undercutting yourself with the mowing. When you think of the amount of diesel burnt and the time spent compared to tedding or raking do you not think that yourself?

Or maybe you meant to put in €25+vat? It would sound closer to what it should be?

It's welcome, but €1000 is not worth a stocking of sh1te against the increase in costs.

Its €100/ha, €40 per acre. I would call that a fairly good help in fairness. Will contractors just hump the price up further though?
