I have a solar set up with battery and iBoost, and a few times I've caught it heating the hot tank by a few watts (2->14w) at night for maybe 5 to 10 seconds. I'm not worried about the power consumption as it is minuscule, my question is why? I works as expected the rest of the time.

I have noticed the same also but have been unable to determine why. Any thoughts from other contributors?

Have found that it tends to happen just after something drawing a load stops. Think its that when the load ends the battery doesnt stop immediately and the iboost sees the export and ramps up to take it. I increased the threshold that the iboost will kick in and it seems to reduce it a lot. At the 100mA default it would happen very regularly, 150mA reduced it a good bit and haven't noticed it at all now at 250mA.

Where / how do you increase the threshold? On the iboost or elsewhere

Only recently had an Eddi installed (have DC batteries as well as panels) & had noticed the same thing on 2 occasions at night. On both occasions the Eddi would indicate heating but I wasn't really exporting much (export limit of 150w set up before Eddi is meant to kick in). The common theme was I had just switched off some high load device - like Cooker with Oven,Grill, Hobs on (that was being fed by battery at the time) or maybe Kettle etc.. What you say matches what I think I've been seeing. Thanks for sharing. Always learning
