    >I think you're missing some of the fundamentals on how a forum works.

ta but but when someone posts - i get an email - like every other forum I've used, as well as platforms such as twitter, facebook, ebay.

You shouldn't need go to a.. eg. www.eevblog.com/forum/bookmarks , for every forum you are on, once a day to check.

Modern forums usually send notifications to your email rather than expect screen scraping, rss or expect you to do a manual page visit.

It used to be possible group these emails - not anymore :( it really stands out on a thread with lots of posts like this one.

Seems a hell of a lot better now.

Intrusive adds that took up mostly of the screen are gone for me now.

The porny anime ads are back with a vengeance.

It's fascinating how the algorithms try to figure your interests. My ads include a selection of cat garden ornaments, I downloaded a random cat image a week ago to create an amusement for a what's app message, turns out the image was a lifelike cat statue, not a real cat. I'm being bombarded, in German, with cat scratching posts and statue ads. The German is likely because I had Amazon.de open in another window for car parts.

I'm also being asked in another ad to consider becoming a home carer. The ad has an image of a forlorn and needy looking old lady trying helplessly to pull up her socks. I can't pull up my own most mornings.

At least I'm spared the p0rn Annie May. I've misspelt this as I'm not inviting that shyte in when my post is dissected by the Google gremlins. And I don't have a cat.

There is no algorithm at all if you don't have a certain setting enabled. Mike has confirmed this. So you just get any old randomised crap that Snigel has on its servers. I get the Manga crap, German workwear, real estate in Iceland and motorbike insurance in the US to name but a very few.

Adblocker working fine here. Thanks to those who suggested it.

I'm firmly in the "I would have paid" camp but I won't look at that crap at any price.

Well done boards - your shortsighted strategy ensured another poster won't ever see the ads here again and fewer clicks to pay the bills.

Who would be clicking on totally irrelevant or not even in English ads anyway, though? Unless by accident of course.

    I'm partial to your abracadabra,

I'm raptured by the joy of it all.

Two years in to the current **** show and you STILL haven't fixed music/podcasts being stopped while browsing the site. Sometimes it pauses it, sometimes it mutes it and sometimes it turns the volume down.

€50 a year, I'll be gone. Not worth it for the one forum I look at and post to. €25 a year is enough and I'd be happy to subscribe to that.

I was on the way out when the adds took up half the lower part of my phone screen, but I can put up with the way they are now.

Does anyone click on the adds? I've yet to see any that would warrent me to.

Are boards asking for 50 quid a year?? What did I miss?

Is anyone else’s page keep bouncing to the top?

it’s really annoying when I’m reading a long post and then the page jumps up to where I started reading, so I have to find my place again, and sometimes it’ll happen 2 or 3 times on a long post!

This is on duck duck go, on an iPhone 11.

I don't think that is ad related, might be deleted posts.

Yes if I'm on Chrome, no with Samsung browser.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,319 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

    Yes!

I thought it was something to do with ad blockers.

If it did the jumping more or less straight away I wouldn't mind, but it's often nearly a minute or so in to reading, and suddenly the page shoots off to somewhere up near the top.

    Chrome on android.

I noticed this on PC, this jump/scroll happens when snigel script attempt to run (blocked in my case)

While now on the phone for few weeks it also happens, but i only can guess its due to same script.

I see a sneaky ad dropped in here by some skanky currency gambling site was removed fairly lively, good riddance, but I wonder is this a method for embedded ads that might be under consideration, ads presented as posts, not pop ups, left until they scroll away as new legitimate posts are added, or else removed after a period for 'not scrolling away, like in rugby. As long as such ads are not animated or contain hidden or dangerous links, this might be a method that boards could use without too much grief from posters.

Stupid retirement ads you really can not be making money off the ridiculous ads that are spouting up on here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,282 ✭✭✭TheRona

Switched to Brave and am never looking back. I know they need to make some money off ad revenue, but they have messed things up about 10 times too many for me.

I think rather than 50 euros a year, it should be based on donations like Wikipedia. People would pay more

Aso perhaps moderation amd special rights should be sold? Number of posts shuld not be a criteria. My experience shows that number of posts make people arrogant

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,914 ✭✭✭✭ohnonotgmail

You want moderation rights to go to the highest bidder? JFC.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11 Gaurav10b

Just an idea ? Community can rate the moderation ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11 Gaurav10b

Another idea is to invite business to have their profile on boards.ie so that respond to customer queries or questions?

They can advertise their brand on related threads

That was on the old Boards but was discontinued. I don't know if they all pulled out or what the reason was.

All the telecom companies and others were on it.

You can probably still find them under "Talk to".

I found it a very good service at the time.
