Well I'm an EO and I have failed the shortlisting several times and it always the leadership competency. I work in a small organisation where I have a max of 1 direct report and then maybe 2-3 other CO's reporting to me based on the subject areas I'm involved in. (We embrace a cross-matrix work ethos here). All the selection boards seem to focus on is the number of direct reports an EO has rather than the actual experience.

I agree. Leadership is the one frequently failed. Its not enough to just have staff unfortunately. You need to be able to demonstrate you "lead" others well. They focus heavily on this competency.

I made it through having never managed an CO or formally managing anyone.

The competency is team leadership, not team management and a large number of people seem to not really recognise the difference between the two. It's not about how many people you have to delegate work to. It's about how you can lead a team.

A point well made but i think the angst for people, certainly for myself, is that we're moving from the objective (clearly defined tests) to the subjective (a persons opinion of your form).

The majority here are i'm sure more than capable in team leadership and would fully subsume the role if they were afforded the opportunity. Convincing others that that's the case can be tricky though. I wouldn't hang my hat on the interpretation either.

Is anyone here participating in AGS internal HEO Crime Analyst competition?

Anyone here anything about interviews yet?

    No nothing yet.

I'd say it will take a few weeks to review all of the applications. Anyone know how many passed stage 1?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 82 ✭✭08122019

Surely stage 2 will be a continuous process. They’ll start and the first 100 that are successfully shortlisted will be called forward to the next stage as batch 1, and while those interviews are happening they’ll be shortlisting candidates for batch 2?

I reckon all who were successful in Dublin stage 1 will be shortlisted based on application forms and given new order of merit. Before anyone is brought forward to the next stage…

That makes a lot more sense. Thanks

But as you said Ber, it may take some time…

Any idea when we will hear back re shortlisting?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 58 ✭✭Burton

The responses said early June but by PAS standards id be excited to see August

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 119 ✭✭Ber25

Did they mean that the review would start in early June or that the results would be out in early June

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 71 ✭✭Csk2019

I think so. The last time they shortlisted on forms, I think it was approx 3 months before first tranche were notified

Have they said it will be on forms?

Stage 2 for last campaign was video shortlisting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 71 ✭✭Csk2019

No, but I looked back on last comp and they told us in the results message that it was video shortlisting. It doesn't seem to suggest it will be the video shortlisting at this point, but who knows!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 162 ✭✭ilovethistles

AFAIK it is in the information booklet that Stage 2 is shortlisting based on forms.

I have also heard that it will be shortlisting based on forms

This selection process is pasted from the booklet, it states shortlisting is based on forms.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 680 ✭✭✭redmgar

The booklet says that selection process MAY include these stages.

The previous campaign said the same thing and the next stage was shortlisting based on video recordings answers to 3 competencies. I would bet that this will be the same format.

I would guess shortlisting based on forms as the last InterD HEO had video assessment as Stage 2, it was clearly stated stage 2 was going to be video shortlisting after we got the stage 1 result.

This message doesn't say video shortlisting in this competition.

Another recent AP competition stated that stage 2 would be shortlisting & this was completed by application form.

Based on these recent experiences I would imagine as they said Stage 2 is shortlisting that it would be by the application form.

(I understand every competition is different)

Late to the party but placed in top 5 in Offaly and under 20's in Westmeath. Are these results for these regions achieveable in terms of being low enough to have the possibility of getting appointed if successful?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,626 ✭✭✭✭Rikand

    Yep.

As long as you maintain those positions through the process

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2 Leemcd30

yeah this was my opinion too! Hopefully we hear today it’s usually a Friday late afternoon!!

Do you mind me asking are you going to continue to pursue this competition now you're on other panel? I'm unsure

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 82 ✭✭MaryRyan48

I'm not but would have if I saw it 🙈 was it on public jobs or where did you find it?

@avocadoator I never do fantastic on aptitude tests. I'm mid 30's in my regions and don't have Dublin down so I'm not expecting to be called soon for this one at all (if I pass shortlisting)

If I was called before placed internally I think I would go ahead with the interview though.

It is a draining process though!
