Electric Ireland coming up as the cheapest. Trying to sign up now. But the website won't take my N26 iban ffs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47,289 ✭✭✭✭muffler

See here. Just to note that the PSO levy is being reduced to €26.29 from next month so Ive included that in the figures.

Contract with Electric Ireland (electricity only) is up next month. Signed up with them last year with 28% discount. Would anyone know if they're offering discounts to existing customers to stay with them?

Put my details into Energy Pal and they're coming up the cheapest for new customers.

You say that the PSO levy is being reduced. I can't see that anywhere in your link

They messaged me to say that they'd phone in the days before my contract expired....still waiting for that call!

I switched to SSE as they were cheapest (just before they announced the increase)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47,289 ✭✭✭✭muffler

I left a couple of weeks ago and 18% discount was the best they would offer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,224 ✭✭✭✭OmegaGene

just logged onto flogas to access customer portal and they have a €60 welcome bonus on the home page, be handy if a new customer could tie that in with the bwg offer

    The internet isn’t for everyone

anyone with solar and CEG payments have experience with switching off SSE.

I have credit in my account ~€200, I was told to ring customer care to get it.

I should also have some CEG payments due for Aug and 12 days in Sep but next scheduled CEG payment not until Nov.

Would they issue that early if i requested or do i need to wait to close out ?

    Are EI normally this incompetent?

Switched last week just for electricity but when I got no communication I rang them on Monday. The switch hadn't gone through. No idea why. Put it through again. Now when I log in to my new account it says the account is closed. CS useless - we'll ring you back. Ffs.

And if I understand correctly if I cancel the switch I have to go back to Bord Gáis and can't switch immediately to someone else?

    Am I missing something here?

Is that rate fixed for 12months or "kinda fixed"?

Base rate cheaper than BWG and standing charge 20€ more expensive

I did my usage on energy pal and that plan is not available on it yet so used custom plan.Still 100€ more expensive than EI because 100€ EI bonus by I think EI will increade prices in feb/march anyway.

Not sure what to do.Im on smart plan but I prefer 24h rate due to work

Don't you just hate it when a switch is ballsed-up???,🤔

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 410 ✭✭Lester_Burnham

I've spoken to them twice. The latest call I was told that the account is closed because it hasn't been opened yet! Utter BS. Rather than lose the rag I told him I had to answer the door and hung up.

Last week isn't that long ago. I think it's not unreasonable for a switch to take up to 2 weeks to go through.

Energia being investigated by CRU according to Irish Times (Link).

Someone posted a while back about having their electricity meter calibrated/serviced and I was wondering if anyone knows how you'd go about doing that?

It's an old non-smart 24hr legacy meter, that's been there for as long as I can remember.

My "usage" has suddenly increased by 25% over the last two billing cycles and I don't know what's causing it. I've tried to isolate what it might be, but I can't seem to figure it out. The absence of more time-specific data with an old meter certainly makes that a much more difficult task, but I'm the only one there and haven't been doing anything outside of my usual routine. Certainly nothing that should account for a 25% increase.

It was even up by a similar amount, in the previous billing cycle during the summer, when it should really have been decreasing, including while I was away on holidays; so it's not just my actual usage that's increased, it seems.

I would like to at least know if it's actually something using (more) power that I haven't managed to realise yet, or if the meter itself is misreading.

Especially in advance of the impending price increases next month.

Why get a smart meter but no activate it? You'll be given access to the 30 minutely data via the ESB without activating it. Makes it easier to narrow down.

One of the only benefits to an old meter was that it may be running slow meaning you're using more electricity than you're paying for. You worry is the opposite. If the meter is the issue, a smart meter fixes this (activated or not).

Anyone been able to sign up to this? Entering eircode and 'get quote' not doing anything for me on a couple of browsers?

    Hi,

    Just looking for some advise.

Currently with Electric Ireland for dual fuel in my name.

Just signed up for Electric Ireland with dual fuel using my wifes name but used her maiden surname so as to appear as new customer, had to provide same IBAN though.

Do you think this would flag up on their system?

Hoping this will work out and then another query with the Electric Ireland/Super Valu partnership doesn't anyone know if we set up a separate Real Rewards account for my wife will I be able to use both mine and her code every 2 months to get money off Bill's?

    Thanks

Has any of you ever heard of The Electricity Man? I'm not affiliated with them at all. Nothing on their website, a flyer through the door offers unit prices only.
They are so-called energy brokers. Is this a real thing?

never heard of them, according to their website they have been around for over a decade

Mc01 standard plan (non-activated smart meter) dual fuel offer. Switched from BG after recently announced price increase to EI. BG emailed today offering 33% discount, which is marginally better for gas, but only a little bit better for electric:

    Gas:

BG Rate is €0.0749 and SC is €131.69 (annual)

EI €.08384 and SC €155.96 (annual)

    Electricity:

BG Rate is €.2455 and SC €218.54 (annual)

EI Rate is €.2502 and SC €250.77 (annual)

Was considering cancelling the switch but done the maths and I'll only be about €100 better off after 12 months with BG and really dislike this best price only being available AFTER you start the switch. Probably gonna stick with EI now.

    What are everyone's thoughts?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,224 ✭✭✭✭OmegaGene

if someone offered you a €100 would you say no thanks and keep walking because you don’t like them or would you take the money ?

I’d cancel a switch to save €20 never mind €100

Ive not come across this crowd but came across a crowd that offered this service for commercial customers. They were a bit of a cow boy operation. Whatever we saved on unit price was wasted on staff time chasing invoices and trying to work out reissued invoices and chasing credit notes etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 410 ✭✭Lester_Burnham

That's a no brainer. Lower rate and standing charge. Unless EI are giving you a signup bonus.

Edited to add - does the BG rate include the coming price increase?

Don't forget that EI will probably increase their prices early next year so your savings could be substantially more than €100.
