I noticed that some of the channels on the ‘other channels‘ section on my Sky Plus HD box haven’t had epg data for s while now, particularly some of the ITV 2,3 & 4 channels!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,119 ✭✭✭Maz2016

I literally came on to post this. I have free to air and notice for a few weeks now that itv4+1 and itvbe have no epg. I did a full rescan aswell but it didn’t work. It was the same for itv2+3 but they were on another transponder and now work.

I think those channels are being dual illuminated along with ITV, C4, E4, Film 4, More4 incl. their +1's and C5 on another TP with full EPG data.

    Here's the frequency for them

    11306 27500 H

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,568 ✭✭✭Gerry Wicklow

11306H is the temporary backup feed for a Freeview transmitter that went on fire. You'll notice the TP includes Freeview information.

so is that reason we're getting no itv EPG because the transmitter went on fire?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,568 ✭✭✭Gerry Wicklow

No the fire was back in August. It was a main transmitter for parts of Yorkshire that also fed a lot of small relays. The satellite TP on 11306 H is only temporary to feed the relays in Yorkshire. There's no knowing when it will disappear.

    No problems using crossEPG

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,406 ✭✭✭Glaceon

I can only presume that these channels have stopped transmitting the DVB standard EPG data.

I’ve split off the Sky+HD other channels EPG data stuff to a separate thread.

Just so I recall correctly though, because I’ve had Sky Q for a while now, the expected behaviour on Sky+HD is that you should be able to see Now and Next data only? Can’t remember if you can scroll forward and get listings for later. There should certainly be no expectation of being able to see beyond that on a Sky+HD box - these channels are “off EPG”.

On Sky Q you’ve never been able to see any EPG data other than the name of the current programme, I think. I so rarely use the Manual Tuning feature (as it is renamed on that platform) unless there’s a match that’s only on ITV.

Just to add, I working on the basis that this problem specifically affected legacy Sky boxes - if there’s wider issues I can rename the thread.

FreeSat boxes use a propietry over the air EPG (changing to non-Freesat mode and you only get now/next)

SKY boxes use a propietry over the air EPG (other channels are now/next) On old SD boxes you could see it coming out the serial port. In theory you could check. IIRC it was 9600

FTA boxes and Saorview Connect only get now/next because UK channels don't transmit full EPG like you'd get on foreign channels including the Irish ones on Saorsat.

Linux boxes can do all of the above AND download EPG's from the internet. CrossEPG is one Linux solution or you could use EPGRefesh / EPG Importer instead.

I use EPGRefesh / EPG Importer (ticking boxes for extra sources) so EPG from EIT/MHW/Freesat and option to use data from Virgin and other providers too. I have no problems with ITV's but I wouldn't know because I've got some redundancy.

Its the Now & Next data on the 'other channels' that was available but gone now on the channels mentioned earlier, on my Sky Plus HD box!

crossEPG is a plugin you can install on enigma boxes that automatically downloads EPG data. Usually it does this during the night. In the past this was needed to get the data. More recent versions of enigma can download the FreeSat data in the background. However FreeSat data does not include non-FreeSat channels such as +1s. Crucially until recently it, it did not include CH4HD.

If you install crossEPG from your plugins menu, go into it's settings, choose 'OpenTV Providers' and select 'Astra 28.2' so that a check mark appears beside it. Then hit the coloured button to save this setting. The defaults for the other settings such as download time etc should suit most people. Make sure it is saving to your HDD and not internal flash. It's a good idea to reboot the box after you install this.

would crossEPG work with the Triax tsc 114?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,678 ✭✭✭swoofer

No, that box comes with closed software. Its very old and you would be better off getting the zgemma h7s .

its 169 at virts but worth it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,635 ✭✭✭dublinman1990

Is this issue affecting old FTA boxes as well as old Sky+HD boxes?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,119 ✭✭✭Maz2016

I have 2 Ferguson Ariva boxes and No now/next for ITV4+1 or ITVbe. Have it for everything else

edit: lost epg on the channel 4 stations now aswell….

  • Registered Users, Subscribers, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,360 ✭✭✭mike2084

I got the ITV channels epg now and next data back on my Sky+HD's by tuning into 11.306H - don't know why it works on this transponder and not the other and I'm aware that this is only a temporary transponder after the transmitter fire.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,119 ✭✭✭Maz2016

That works except itv4+1 and itvbe. For the channel 4 stations, ironically only the newly free to air 4Music has epg. It’s gone for Channel4 HD, E4, more4 (and the +1’s) and 4seven is gone too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,067 ✭✭✭✭fryup

would emailing ITV & Channel 4 be pointless? would they give any notice about micks with no EPG?

Well, it has to be affecting UK residents with FTA boxes too, so I'd be interested to see their response.

I have a UK sky hd fta box, what do I need to check?

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 12,074 Mod ✭✭✭✭icdg

renamed thread on basis issue is not confined to Sky+HD

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,067 ✭✭✭✭fryup

epg back on the ITV's but still missing on the channel 4's

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,119 ✭✭✭Maz2016

    Ferguson Ariva fta box.

I am still missing epg data on the C4 etc channels .

But I noticed that for ITV2 ITV3 and ITV4 , I have full epg, not just the now and next as usual.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,119 ✭✭✭Maz2016

As mentioned earlier 11306H or 11037H is the temporary backup feed for a Freeview transmitter that went on fire. This is just a temporary transponder for Freeview.

    channel 4 channels still down

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,471 ✭✭✭mackersdublin

There are no issues with Freesat or Sky, as their EPG data are taken from Sky's and Freesat's Transponder. There was 7 day EPG data for all channels on both TV Guides

The issue is ITV and Channel 4 stopped sending DVB data on their own channels

Freesat TVs and Boxes along with Sky's TV Guide were unaffected

It's when you have a FTA box or accessing "Other Channels" through any Sky box, the Now & Next data is missing

Update: just checked 11.127 V 22.0 5/6 and both channels on that TP are not sending Now & Next data stil - Channel 4 HD and 4seven, both of which are not on the ROI Sky EPG and have to be added to Other Channels to view them

I am a FTA viewer and have noticed that most of the Ch4 family stations have 'now' and 'next' prog details, in the morning.

Film 4, More 4, E4 and all the associated +1, all had the data yesterday (and this morning) before I had to leave for work. Yesterday evening, when I got home, they had all disappeared again. However, Ch4 and +1 didn't have the data yesterday morning, or evening.

Why would the data only be made available, on some of the Ch4 family stations, in the morning? Seems strange......

EPG data back working on Channel 4 HD and 4seven

Forgive what may be a dumb question, but if you're limited to now-and-next listings for a channel, does this mean that you can't do any kind of 'series record' or 'series link' function?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,852 ✭✭✭✭The Cush

That's correct, you will require a timer function to set start and end times.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,295 ✭✭✭✭AndrewJRenko

Jeez, that's a bit primitive. Like stepping back in time to 2010 or something.

    Thanks for clarifying though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,852 ✭✭✭✭The Cush

The dvb standard used allows now and next programme data to be carried with the channel audio and video data but any additional channel data would have to be carried separately to be displayed in a programme guide, like Freesat or Sky for example.
