Frank Murphy didn’t want to know about Ulster being offside all night.

You can carry a few inexperienced / younger / second, third choice players in many teams, but you cant expect results with few first choice players.

Leinster victims of their own greatness tonight.

He's an excellent young talent that desperately needs game time. Think he's played less than 80 minutes this season. And he hasn't played much rugby since December last year.

It's his brother that I'm more concerned about. He's 26 yet has already hit his peak I think. Just doesn't have the tools for the game Leinster want to play.

Both teams were offside all night, they had to be, it was the only way to neutralise the ref deciding not to bother policing that law

Ulster were unlucky in the 1st half, those two try line penalties could easily have gone the other way

Be that as it may, Leinster should have been in his ear, and made less mistakes. McGrath alone had numerous mistakes, was lucky henshaw did what he did to get the try

Worst Leinster performance in years. Half backs were shocking. Forwards made very little ground and we couldn't string anything together. Well done to Ulster, they capitalised on our messyness

Lol, this is the most Leinster comment of all time

Fair play Ulster. Congrats on the win. Better team for the whole game.

Connors was Leinsters MOTM. Frawley, Henshaw and Furlong were good too. Besides that, very average.

Harry Byrne had a few errors off the bench again. Can’t help but think he’s forcing it at the moment. That said, you can see a bit of pace and willingness to attack the line from him. All a learning experience for him.

Is frank Murphy really the pinnacle of Irish rugby referring.

Never a game where his influence isnt a factor.

Except he did penalize Leinster for it. Twice.

    Fully deserved ulster win.

Played the ref perfectly knowing he was going to blow everything defensively at the ruck, while allowing chaos to stop the cleaners.

Leinster were very poor. Didn't react to the blitz defence at all.

Ulster didn't capitalise on your messiness, they caused it by matching them up front and forcing them to play deep and get pushed backwards in contact

Regardless of who starts, Leinster now play with a big target on their back. The guys behind the starting 15 can rise to it and use it as inspiration or they can get very cosy down there in D4 and come out flat like this.

I’ll take your word for it, very poor this season. Hopefully he does develop because at this moment in time Leinster are in a massive trouble at 10 going forward (excluding Johnny)

I wonder did Leinster spend the last 4 weeks working on S&C. Judging by that performance they haven’t done any work on skills or play, that’s for sure.

Well done Ulster. Fully deserved win. In our faces all night and just so much more up for it. We gave away far too many penalties but mainly because of Ulster pressure.

We could be seeing signs that having a large squad in this new URC version might actually be a major hindrance.

Players know they now have very limited game minutes so they think they need to make an impact with every game contribution, which leads to discontinuity and errors. Less doing the dirty work while waiting to do the more flashy stuff.

Leinster didn't at all look a team who have been preparing for that game for the last four weeks.

Jamie Heaslip bringing a bit of seasoning to proceedings.

    Nice and salty.

Halfbacks often take the flack when the forwards don't show up

There were several unforced errors by McGrath and Hb which had nothing to do with the forwards. Forwards didn't help but half backs can't blame all the errors on the forwards

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,403 ✭✭✭alias no.9

When the forwards are losing the battle, the pressure on the halfbacks increases and they make what look to be unforced mistakes. Leinster halfbacks don't usually experience this.

Fair point but Leinster were terrible with ball in hand when we did have it. McGrath was slow and threw a lot of poor passes and Ross is just so predictable that he's completely ineffective. Probably a lot to do with the pressure from Ulster, but we just looked clueless at times. One to forget.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,122 ✭✭✭KH25

Yeah, but that doesn’t excuse the general sloppiness of their passing. Quite a few times passes we’re either too high or behind the player and it stopped any momentum. It was consistent throughout the game, even at times when Leinster were making ground and getting on top of the Ulster defence.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,058 ✭✭✭ersatz

Ulster did to Leinster as Ireland did to the all blacks, without the attack part. For Leinster being behind in the last 20 with only 1 try on the board is it’s own pressure, ulsters work was already done by then. Even without the intercept you’d have expected them to hang on.

Even more disappointing than the result were some fans from several different rows in the Grandstand who shouted that the ref was a d*ck, w*nker and c*nt at various times during the match.

I was embarrassed, having brought a non-rugby family member to the game. I've been going to games a long time and haven't heard that level of vitriol. It would be a real shame if that started creeping in to the games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,077 ✭✭✭randomname2005

Absolutely this can happen but, as examples, I'm not sure the kicks out on the full can be blamed on the forwards. Crappy ball at the back of rucks, malls, scrums, absolutely but from memory Hb had enough time and space to kick with little to no pressure on him. They were bad mistakes IMHO

Who are the FOUR better players?

    Ringrose, Aki, Henshaw and....?

This is from the guy who, at the start of the summer, thought neither Hume nor Baloucoune should be anywhere near an international cap.

You either hate Ulster or know very, very little about the actual playing of rugby.
