Schmeisser SP15 Ultramatch

    Hi all,

Has anybody imported/bought a Schmeisser SP15 here at all? If so, which RFD/website did you go through? I have a half a notion of changing my .223 and the Schmeisser Straight Pull has turned my gaze a little. I know it's not everyone's cup'o'firearm, but sure if we were all the same, wouldn't life be boring? 😋

If anyone has then I'd imagine it'd be such a rarity that you may not get an answer.

What is drawing you to it, if ya don't mind me asking. Other than it being "future legislation" compliant.

Partially the "future legislation" issue. As someone said, it's a UK solution to a UK problem. But it looks like we're going to be sharing that problem very soon.

Partially, YouTube. It has received very good reviews and ticks all the boxes I want. Heavy 20" barrel. 9" twist. 2 stage trigger. There's a lot to like about it before you even get to the bolt.

I like the customisability of it. All the AR parts you can use. I like to tinker. I'd say I spend as much time breaking down and cleaning my rifles as I do on the range with them.

I've had a Tikka. Loved it. Had 2 Remys in 223. Hit and miss. Just looking at something different I guess.

German precision,at less than HK prices?😂

I met Thomas Hoff/Andreas Schumacher at the FUN conference in Berlin 2 years ago this month. The guy is a perfectionist and it shows in the work they produce . Not to mind financially contributing to the FUN network

Like zero movement between the upper and lower and extreme tolerances where it counts, so much it looks like the entire unit is a monoblock of steel.🤯 But still within the "reasonable and higher-end" of AR designs.

Just a thought, I've no direct experience with a straight pull, the only charging handle I've ever used was on an FN and Steyr in my FCA days. If yer shooting groups pulling a charging handle wouldn't be conductive to maintaining a steady position compared to a buttery smooth Tikka for example, just IMHO. It'd really be something I'd want to run a good few rounds through to see if I'd get along with it before I'd buy one.

Just an observation, as I say I've zero experience behind one.

Actually a straight pull is great at helping you hold the same position. I had a Blaser LRS2 for a few years and one of the main reasons I'm sorry I moved on from it is that no other rifle I have had since allows me to stay as centred when I work the bolt. I'm a leftie and whether I had the LH bolt or the RH bolt it was easy to maintain position.

I like the look of this Schmeisser quite a lot and the reviews seem very good. alanmc - did you press any further with your idea to maybe get one ?

Not really @freddieot , I keep flip flopping back and forth between this and just getting a T3x and tarting it up over time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,726 ✭✭✭Feisar

That's a "proper" straight pull though, not a bastardized offering.

Eh, it takes some getting used to but I didn't find it uncomfortable to transition from a traditional bolt action to an AR style straight pull when I got the chance to fire one.

So I pulled the trigger on this, if you'll pardon the pun. Stuck a deposit down today. There's a 3-4 month lead time on the Germany side of things before I can even get a serial and apply for my license here. But sure I'm in no rush. Interesting to see how smooth it all goes.

    Ah very nice!

Let us know how it goes, when it does arrive :D

Alanmc, it looks a brilliant piece of kit and I'm looking forward to seeing you playing with it on the range. . Did you order from a dealer here or are you doing some import exercise ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,140 ✭✭✭alanmc

Doing the import myself. going to see how it goes anyway. If it fails (for whatever reason), I can revert to getting it imported via dealer.

I was toying with the idea of getting a Tikka Tac A1 (they have one down in Wildhunter in Athlone), but I kept getting drawn back to the Schmeisser. The Tikka is probably a better rifle, but the heart wants what the heart wants.

I think I'd prefer the Schmeisser as well.

    Update time:

In true German fashion, the rifle arrived in stock exactly on time. (Feb 16th). It's taken until now to get my substitution granted (just got a call from the FO today). License should be arriving in the post in the next few days.

    Next steps:

    • Submit my application to the DOJ for import license
    • Send that off to Triebel
    • Wait for delivery

FO wants me to call the station when the rifle arrives so that the CPO can come out and inspect it. Seems fair enough. Happy out that it's going relatively smoothly to be honest (timings aside).

    SA or straight-pull version?

Straight Pull. I wasn't brave enough to go for the full fat SA. ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,103 ✭✭✭✭Grizzly 45

Ah well, you can always get a SA upper for it if you want to no bother. Safe and happy shooting with it too.

PS if you are dealing with Katja herself on this, tell her to send it via Waffen Taxi.De.It is a bit longer in delivery time 21/28 days. But is a lot cheaper than DHL/Deutsche Post. You just have to split the gun into two parcels with them as well for security in transport, but it is the same price for the two parcels.😉

Just had a look at my invoice and it is being sent via Waffen in 2 parcels. Should be good to go. Is this the same as Waffen Taxi.De?

    WaffenVersand / GunShipping =>

Dunno, that looks like a dispatch notification of the parcels .

If the price for shipping is around 120/150 it's waffentaxi or simmilar. Over that its DP/DHL.

Nope, that is the shipping type (Waffenversand = Gun shipping), not a company.

And "Waffe bis 10 kg" means "Weapons up to 10 kg", again not a company, but the subtype of shipping.

So could be any company, but that snippet doesn't specify ;)

Once you get a tracking number you will be able to tell then, if not before by emailing Katja/Christian and asking ;)

Just sent off my e-mail to justice.ie yesterday applying for my import license. For those of you who have been through this process before: Should I have gotten a reply/acknowledgement? Or do I just wait by the letterbox?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 1,629 Mod ✭✭✭✭otmmyboy2

Never got an acknowledgement for any of my import permits, but if there is an error in yours they will contact you.

If there isn't then usually within a week or 2 you'll get your import permit back in the post, which you then scan and email to the dealer to apply for the export permit.

On the scan& email. That depends on the Federal jurisdiction and issuing dept . Some will accept a scanned copy, others want the original. Dunno what it is in Berlin/Brandenburg so best contact Treibel to make sure and save a delay.

Triebel do the scan option, done it in the past with them and never had to send the physical document ;-)

@Grizzly 45 I specifically asked them about the import.license, and they just require a scan.

    Final update:

The Schmeisser arrived this week. First package on Monday (had the lower receiver and bolt carrier), and second package on Wednesday (everything else: upper, case, accessories)

All went very very smoothly. Took about as long as I thought it would .... and to be honest most of the waiting time was waiting for Triebel to get it into stock so I could get a serial.

In summary, I'm happy as a dog with 2 mickeys 😀
