I can`t find if there was an official reference to Garda due to the crime committed. I`m sure that Garda should investigate it even without any reference. Just because it`s in a public interest.

When someone is alive (and an adult) they need to make a complaint.

The man does not look like he used to make complaints...I do not think that the public interest should depend on it. As the next victim could be any of us walking there.

It`s not the case. There is an article in the official mass-media, there is an author of the article, there is the video of the victim, the victim is pretty much traceable I suppose. Thus it`s not an anonymous caller in my view.

The investigation would start with taliking to the guy, who is the only witness that we (or the guards) know of.

If the guy is uncooperative a successful prosecution is impossible, and the guards will not waste taxpayers' money conducting investigations that cannot have a successful outcome.

What would legally happen if the person being mugged was a super fit swimmer and tripped dragging the non swimming mugger in to the canal with them and the mugger drowned accidentally as a result?

Nothing. I can't remember a single case in which an accidental drowning led to a manslaughter prosecution of anyone involved in the incident.

Glad he made it, but am slightly concerned about the discovery of water in a Dublin canal. Has the Environmental Protection Agency been informed?
