What cases did everyone end up with for their Pixel 6? I got the official one with its known issues when I bought my device and as expected it got all warped within it's first year. Managed to convince Google to give me a refund and I continued to use it as it was still somewhat functional. Not any more, it's all cracked now so I need to replace it with something else.

I got the Caseology Parallax (black & red) from Amazon DE. No issues with it after 18+ months.

I got a Spigen liquid air and still perfect 2 and half years later.

Spigen cases are great, have had a few on different phones now. Currently have a Tough Armour case on P8 Pro

+ 1 on the Spigen, bought two below at launch in Oct 21. I used the Rugged armour case for a few weeks and then switched to the wallet one. Have switched back for the odd occasion I didn't want the bulk of the card case but I find the card one much handier. Will fit two cards and two notes carefully folded between them. It will fit 3 cards if they are not embossed but it is tight. Saves me carrying my wallet most of the time.

Thanks for the recommendations. Will have a look and see what's still available.

Edit: have a Caseology Parallax & Vault along with a Spigen Liquid Air in my Amazon basket. Will choose one over the coming days so that it's at home for me when I return from holiday. Did half a day with no case at all and hated it.

had a caseology nano pop on my 6a and it left a bunch of micro scratches around the camera bar on my phone so personally would avoid caseology. Even though they are made by he same company the spigen line of products are miles better. Rugged armour all the way.

It's the most slippery phone I've ever had. Leave it resting on the arm of a chair and it immediately tries to throw itself on the floor.

Another vote for Spigen. I got one as recommend on this thread.

I've the liquid air, and I give the phone a lot of abuse, and it's holding up perfectly.

They were not in stock on Amazon when I was looking, it's worth going to aliexpress if you cannot find them.

I've had to order my Spigens from Amazon it, de, fr, and es as the UK won't send them here for some bizarre reason. If you like a bit more of an angular case Ringke cases are pretty good too.

I'm UK based (although away at the moment) so can get the Spigen and Caseology cases on Prime with next day delivery. Still leaning towards the most basic Caseology one as at this stage I'm not too bothered with minor cosmetic scratches caused by dust getting in behind the case, might be a different story if it was a brand new phone. Hoping to get at least another year out of this one.

My Spigen Rugged Armour case arrived today. Suitably grippy and sturdy. Thanks for all the recommendations.

6 and 7 series now getting 5 years of OS updates instead of 3. Means the 6 Pro I have is definitely getting Android 16 next year, I presume it'll be just 16 and all its feature drops though and not 17 too. Still, means I've absolutely zero reason to get rid of my 6 Pro anytime soon. Battery health is in and around 89-90%, still getting 6 hours screen on time from it. Bought it at launch too.

My kid has an old Pixel 6 that is about 3 years old at this stage. Noticed that the screen is lifting off the frame, looks like the battery is expanding.

Contacted Google support and they're supposedly sending me a replacement. Quite surprised, thought I'd have a battle on my hands to get anything out of them.

Do you've to send them back the faulty device?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,643 ✭✭✭TheRona

Yeah, but they have said they'll send the replacement first

seems to be a common issue with androids . had the same issue with a samsung s22 but they wanted over 300 quid to fix it

Interesting to see this, I've a Pixel 6 since late 2021 and just this week noticed a bulging in the top right of the screen, pushing away from the frame as you mentioned, and a bit of a whiff of acetone or similar off it that I noticed when inspecting closely.

I've a case open with Google as of this evening, and I expected to be told to take a walk, and cuing myself up to go and buy a new phone in the AM, but your post gives me hope that they might offer a similar remedy for me, so I'll give them a bit more time and see what comes of it.

EDIT: any chance you could give an idea of how long it took from you contacting them to the offer of a replacement, and/or how long the replacement took to arrive if it did?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,643 ✭✭✭TheRona

I contacted them last Friday (8th) about it. Got confirmation of the replacement on the weekend. Shipping confirmation on Monday, delivery Tuesday (yesterday). Entire process took 4 days including the weekend.

One of the emails said something about recycling the old phone, but I guess I could just pay for a replacement battery on it and have another spare phone for not much money.

Edit: the replacement came in packaging as if it was a new device as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,846 ✭✭✭cython

Thanks for that, very quick turnaround really, so I'll cross my fingers and hope they do something similar for me. I doubt I'd see a replacement this side of the weekend if they agree to one, but still the possibility of a decent result and turnaround.

Got an email this AM that RMA has been approved, and a new phone is on the way out, so thus far seems similar to @TheRona's experience above. The cynic in me would wonder if there's a wider issue with these batteries swelling and they're being obliging with a view to avoiding unfavourable coverage, but on the other hand I'm a little surprised they seem to have BNIB replacements for a near 4 year old device, so maybe it's an opportunity for them to offload stale inventory too.

The 6a are going on fire that's why.

Final update on this, replacement device was dispatched on Monday, arrived Tuesday, though I've yet to get the time to switch over to it. Only peculiarity of it was that the replacement "order" seemed to indicate online that I'd be getting another in the Stormy Black colour, but the one that arrived is the Sorta Seafoam colour. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things as I typically have it in an opaque case so rarely if ever see the actual device colour. The IMEI on the dispatch matches that on the box, and feeding same into a checker online also indicates that it's the Seafoam variant, so I'm willing to chalk it up to a scarcity of supply/options for an old device, and beggars can't be choosers almost four years down the line!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,643 ✭✭✭TheRona

That's a good outcome. I also had a stormy black, and the replacement I got was stormy black. I guess it's just luck of the draw.

Got the UI refresh on my 6 Pro yesterday, a bit jarring at first but getting used to it now and feels like it's freshened things up a bit.

I'm trading up to a OnePlus 13 next week but only because of a few reasons that made it necessary to do that now (one of them being a family member needs a replacement and is going to take the 6 Pro). Would have been more than happy to keep using it for another year, it's been a great phone. Actually would have been happy to keep it two more years, it's due to get Android 17 next summer.

Just made the jump to 10 Pro XL myself, was still very happy with my 6. I should have gone for the 6 Pro model in the first place. I don't think I would have felt the same need to upgrade this year and would have been fine for another year or two. Battery life is significantly better though on new phone. Couldn't go full day anymore without needing a top up. Though it was rarely an issue as I'd charge in car or just carry a powerbank if I was out for the whole day.

Screen is lot brighter and nice to have an optical zoom again. It is much snappier and the fingerprint scanner is a massive improvement.
