Very cautious about this; I was already a little sceptical about something this overtly nostalgia-tickling... but to be fair, that's an intriguing trailer.

Didn't know this was coming out! I really liked him in the Mandalorian, so this is a must-watch for me!

I'm all in now that Jennifer Beals has been confirmed as a cast member.

They told you at the end of the Mandalorian, you must not have watched the last episode past the credits.

Gah; still trying not to get too hyped for this. It looks like it could be solid; The Sopranos in Star Wars isn't the worst idea in the world, even if on point of principle I'm against Boba Fett returning.

    Bloody fantastic stuff.

1: This was alright. Could kinda feel the lack of David Filoni in the writing and directing. It didn't feel as deep and thought out as his usual work.

Decebt intro to the Boba Fett story all the same.

Hope the quality improves as they go along.

Really awesome little tidbits on the aftermath of the battle over the Sarlacc pit from Return of the Jedi in there. Cool to see.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,566 ✭✭✭Need a Username

I don’t think what we see is the immediate aftermath.

I think Boba has been unconscious in the Sarlacc for a few years and it takes a long time for him to actually get out.

My guess is that the flashback scenes take place not long before he finds Fennec. That would explain why he is only just catching up to his armour in Mando season 2.

I like that Fett is clearly going to have to fight for control of Jabba’s cartel and he is just going to be accepted by everyone as the boss.

Also the armour held up pretty well in the Sarlacc - I’m wondering if Boba’s scars are not just from there but something he has gathered over the years. He clearly doesn’t need the bacta tank just for the Sarlacc injuries since he is able to walk and fight when a Tusken captive. I think we’ll find out it is years of wear and tear.

Jennifer Beals to be a regular so just give her a natural skin colour?

Was just checking and it's 7 episodes.

Slow enough start but all setup but do like seeing the pre Mando stuff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,825 ✭✭✭Relikk

You can see Jabba's sail barge, The Khetanna, still smouldering in the background of the night scene where the Jawa's take his armour, so I'd say it wasn't that long after the battle. We don't know yet how long Boba stayed with those Tusken Raiders. Seemingly long enough to earn their trust and respect (aside form what occured in this episode) as it seems the female raider he sparred with has the same Gaffi stick Boba is in possession of in The Mandalorian. We also don't know for sure how long Cobb Vanth had Boba's armour. Some sources say since around the time of the Battle of Endor. That would be about 5 years until Boba reacquires it.

Just finished E1 and I have to say, I can't believe how cheap it looks, which is not something you ever expect to say about Disney, whatever your feelings about them.

Maybe it was just my parents' tv, which motion smooths everything to a ridiculous degree, but it felt like I was watching a Star Wars-themed episode of the original Power Rangers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,566 ✭✭✭Need a Username

I didn’t notice the smoke and thought that Jawas regularly visited the wreckage over the years.

If you are correct and Fett escaped the Sarlacc quickly then that throws up the question of why it takes him six years to go looking for the armour.

I can only think of one reason but I don’t want to post it or even think about it too much just in case it is correct. Don’t want to spoil it by overthinking :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,825 ✭✭✭Relikk

There was one part that didn't look that great when using that screen tech they have, and that was the fight scene with the raider after he tries to escape. The lighting looked really off. The previous scene at the camp was fine as they had firelit torches and campfires.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,036 ✭✭✭✭Tony EH

Pretty meh over all. Not bad though.

But, seriously, that's how Bloba Fat got out of the Sarlacc? Not very interesting was it? Thought they'd have a better stab at it than that TBH.

I'm glad they didn't spend too much time on it, but you might see more later on depending on how much time he spends in the bacta tank during the series.

I think the town where Cobb Vanth had Boba's armour was pretty off-the-map going by what they said in The Mandalorian. It was an old town thought to be deserted and destroyed, and no one really went near it. Chances are Boba simply had no idea it was there, and it was only when he spotted Mando ride away from it that he either spotted it or saw it was another Mandalorian and decided to track him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,566 ✭✭✭Need a Username

He clawed, burned and dug his way out.

How much screen time do you want devoted to it?

What other way was there for him to escape? Jet pack? That is the most predictable and dullest possible option. The Sarlacc pukes him out? Maybe in the Last Airbender that might happen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,566 ✭✭✭Need a Username

He is out and they showed us how. I doubt they’ll devote anymore of the flashbacks. More interesting stuff to told.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,566 ✭✭✭Need a Username

That is possible but I got the feeling that it was more a case that he had tracked the armour that far and just missed it.

I have a feeling I know what is going to happen in the flashbacks - and that you are correct - he wasn’t in the Sarlacc for long but that his time spent with the Sandpeople might explain why he armour stayed “missing”.

    In one sentence,

    Not for the casual fan.

    This too shall pass.

I was very surprised when I saw Matt Berry’s name in the credits. Even more surprised on the second watch at how I missed his very distinctive voice (even when adjusted) the first time.

I’m really looking forward to seeing the more of the story unfold about the mayor of Mos Espa. He is clearly someone with power if even his minion wasn’t remotely worried when facing the new crime lord. It could add some political type shenanigans and paper plays to the series.

I’m hoping the parkour assassins don’t work for the mayor but another faction - the more enemies circling Fett the more exciting it will be. Glad that Fett is not being portrayed as a character feared by everyone.

I've learned to curb my enthusiasm for anything star wars at this stage but I enjoyed that. Mildly enjoyable just like the mandalorian.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,881 ✭✭✭Pentecost

As a fairly casual Star Wars fan I enjoyed it well enough. It helped that I'd just finished watching The Mandalorian but a lot of the significance of the various characters and locations as regards the overall Star Wars universe was probably lost on me. Bigger fans might get more out of it but it had enough in its own right to keep me watching all the same.

Thought it pretty naff, the aliens looked bad especially the sand creature - looked like bad Doctor Who aliens

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,566 ✭✭✭Need a Username

Well you are wrong because Pentecost is a casual fan/viewer and enjoyed it.

Nothing this episode that would bewilder someone unfamiliar with Star Wars.

Criminals in outer space. No connections to the larger Star Wars galaxy that are vital to know.

Mandolorian brought in new fans and that had connections like talk of the war, Republic and the white armoured soldiers running about.

nothing In The new series at all that is fan only

I'll have to rewatch but nothing struck me as cheap, production values looked on a similar level to Mando.

Thought it was very similar to the feel of the Mandalorian, the music they put on the end credits felt wrong though. Can't put my finger on why, it just was.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,825 ✭✭✭Relikk

I reckon the group who assaulted the moisture farmer and who sprayed their tag on the wall work as heavies for the mayor. They definitely set them up as being a problem to be solved.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,228 ✭✭✭✭Dial Hard

I'm really hoping it's just my parents' tv. Like I said, say what you want about Disney but they don't do anything on the cheap. E2 will tell!

I thought it was a decent opener. At the very least, more than one starring character whose faces we can see, talk to each other and have rapport gives it an advantage in many respects over The Mandalorian.

It was a decent, if unremarkable, opening episode, but I think it has promise. The toll everything seems to have taken on Fett's body is interesting at least.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,561 ✭✭✭✭Varik

Much weaker than EP1 of Mando, which was great and ended on a huge cliff hanger.

It didn't add much to the bib fortuna scene with got at the end of Mando. Some fights, some CGI, and not much benefit from it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,566 ✭✭✭Need a Username

I thought at first that those thugs were the same ones that were putting the squeeze on Mos Pelgo but I have been told I am wrong.

Minions of the mayor is possible but I think they are just one of many groups taking advantage of the power vacuum left by Jabba’s death. I think that Boba is going to stay with the Sandpeople and that thugs like these are going to cause harm to that life leading to Boba deciding to bring order by taking Jabba’s place.

It was grand, however I just kept thinking to myself during the whole episode what’s the point of this series.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,566 ✭✭✭Need a Username

Can’t that be asked of everything on TV ?

What is the point of The Mandolorian?

what happened to the gamorrean guards during the fight? they left the bar with boba and fennec but weren't there when the fight started. when they did appear they did their job but seemed to disappear at times during the fight itself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,566 ✭✭✭Need a Username

They didn’t disappear during the fight they just were not on camera.

Their disappearance for the ambush itself does appear to be a plot hole - if that is the correct word.

Having them come to the rescue shows us they are loyal but having them disappear in the first place seems like a goof.

maybe they were lured away or distracted and they cut the scene?

this kind continuity problem has showed up in the franchise before.

It did look like Power Rangers when she was chasing those 2 guys.

Why did they choose to use an alien with pen1ses for fingers to be in the scene where they are digging for those water containers. Took me out of the scene entirely with his wibbly wobbly mickeys digging into the sand

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,036 ✭✭✭✭Tony EH

If your penis looks like this, then you probably need to get to a doctor fast.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,681 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Thought it was bang average. Would need to improve dramatically on last nights episode.

Having said that, I wasn't impressed by the 1st episode of the Mandalorian either, but it grew on me.

Worse bits for me last night was the fight scene in the town. Thought it was poorly choreographed and looked very fake.

All rounded off by the sand creature which wouldn't have looked out of place in a 1960s Japanese B-movie.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,566 ✭✭✭Need a Username

I could understand a criticism of the alien fingers being able to dig or something like that but if your thought was “dick fingers”then I think maybe the issue is with yourself

    :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,036 ✭✭✭✭Tony EH

Yeh, though it was very meh too and the parkour thing was definitely a bit hokey. Over all, it alright. But just alright.

As far as that creature was concerned, I looks like it was meant to be a nod to Ray Harryhausen?

One thing that's getting up my spout about this whole Boba Fett thing is this though...

We first see Fett at about 10 years of age in 'Attack of the Clones', then there's 20 years between 'Revenge of the Sith' and 'Star Wars', so he's around 30 ish. There's roughly 4 years between 'Star Wars' and 'Return of the Jedi'. So Fett is around his mid 30's in the flashback scenes and early 40's in the Mandalorian period.

    Temuera Morrison is 61.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 3,186 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dr Bob

Well he could develop a psychic link with the personality of a guy the sarlacc ate millennia ago , anger it enough that it damages his rocket pack , causing it to malfunction and shoot him out of the pit.

Seriously , that was how he did it in the old EU books!

Sso I think I like the new one better , which at least riffs on the comics , where he was puked out , and picked up by Jawas , although they thought he was a droid , he had amnesia , and then Han solo shows up and ..yeah its a whole thing.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 3,186 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dr Bob

I enjoyed it , although it was a bit slow to start , but if I remember The Mandalorean was a well.

Also Matt Berry voicing a Droid!

After Richard Ayode in the Mandalorean , what are the odds on Chris O Dowd and Catherine Parkinson Voicing something in the future?

(or someone from Garth Merengi , I'm not picky)
