It is not a hellhole however that's my opinion, a load of drunks fighting on the street or junkies being junkies doesn't phase me, maybe if I was more easily upset or not as galvanized to reality it would upset me? Plus people compare to other European cities which have the likes of the National Gendarmerie on the streets. I was at Oktoberfest years ago. A Robocop type asked to see my ID on the way in. Brought it and me over to what I'd call a command center type effort, checked my details and gave me back my passport. I didn't see anyone else being checked, maybe I fitted a description? Polite as you like however I knew no messing would be tolerated. Paddy and mary standing outside the GPO sending WhatsApps just don't cut it anymore.

First they came for the socialists...

i do,nt think citys are overrun with crime, to see a failed state see lebanon, power cuts, inflation, its hard to buy anything, widespread corruption .we are trying to get back to normal, in the midst of a pandemic .just because theres some criminals around does not mean no one cares .towns are made up of communitys, working class ,middle class ,the elite . we have acess to endless data , whats going on in every town or city in every country.this includes climate change, mega fires ,droughts, famine ,wars .

At some point maybe we need to stop going on about what happened in the 70,s , 80,s ,single mothers being sent to homes .the catholic church barely exists anymore, the church is used for marriages and funeral,s ,most people do not go to mass .the only power influence it has left is because it still runs schools and some hospitals .every priest is over 50.when was the last time you saw a young priest or a young nun.thats the civil service system, as long as you work and you stay in employment ,you,ll retire and get a pension .its always been like that.Is the usa better, many hospitals are losing staff, while icu wards are full and they cannot carry out normal operations as they have to deal with covid patients. i think alot of people are tired. there seems to be bad news every week.fires ,floods, drought. we have maybe 8 years left to sort out climate change before it becomes impossible to reverse. meanwhile america is opening up new area,s to drill for oil. forests in the amazon are being destroyed .its hard to be optimistic. our health system was not designed for dealing with a pandemic, see every winter ,reports of patients left on trollys

The whole thing went south when an incompetent that got a puck in the mouth and such was written into law as assault. Too many jumped up Joes and Janes running amok now.

the country has always been corrupt beyond belief, it’s just worse now...vested interests looked after....

I’ve been witness to it in workplaces, health care system , as a consumer/customer, sports teams / various organizations..

three of the cornerstones of society, health, justice/an Garda Siochana, social protection are a mess...quality of political representatives is shocking... another generation facilitating business ahead of societal interests ie. the electorate and their needs... few question it, just been endemic for decades...

the lower middle class can fûcking pay for everything yet always made to feel guilty when they need a dig out.. be it healthcare whatever... people have had medical cards removed as priority to be well, be alive and well is awarded to new arrivals and those who don’t contribute habitually...

I'm with DarkJager on this one. Outside of my circle, I couldn't care less, because I know those outside of my circle couldn't care less about me. Lots of people feign caring, but when out of public view they're just as uncaring as the rest of us. If you asked people that for some inexplicable reason they are locked in a room, and are told there is a stranger in another room and one of ye has to die, and you get to decide which of the two of ye live, no one will pick the stranger. Improbable, but that wouldn't change the outcome.

But this is what society seems to want. Everyone to be individual but still slaves to their corporate overlords, be it via working for them or purchasing their tat, which is most likely involved in some cheap labour somewhere. But, it's not happening in my country, [insert country here], so why should I care? And the people profiting from all this don't care how it's affecting the masses, because they're buying yet another super yacht.

The company I work for give a potential yearly increase based on performance and profits, along with a bonus payment just before Xmas based on the same criteria. Last year, we got the bonus but not the increment because Covid. Fair enough, it's not a huge amount, I can potentially add another €550 onto my yearly wage if I get max everything and profits are above expected. So wasn't too upset tbh. But then in March this year, they release the companies earnings for last year, and they made a profit, and not just any profit, a profit well above even the best expectations (which were admittedly low due to Covid). You'd think they'd then reinstate the increase? Nah. They don't care. The just saved what is basically pocket change in comparison to the profits. Meanwhile, the parent company is a huge multinational conglomerate businessey sounding words type company, and the owner of that did indeed buy his second yacht this year, and not a small one. Yay for employment!

The things that people seem to forget about the past, even the recent past.

We are getting the patio relayed, I'm not sure when it was laid first say 25 years ago, it was a horrendous job, poor workmanship was common because people got away with it the same with the selling of second-hand cars, nowadays a bad review on a local form and they would be out of business, life has become much more open and regulated which is good misty-eyed looking back at the past has been going on since Roman times, the past is not better it's just the past.
