    Hi all, quick question.

finally got sorted with a boat. Pioner 13 with a 6hp parsun. Just wanted it for little trips with the kids and some fishing. One of my mates has said “Oh cant wait to shoot duck off that on the Corrib”. I dont think that would be legal tbh. And also not sure how sporting it would be either, considering how close you can get to ducks when on a boat

Once there is no motor on the boat it is legal, afiak, and as for the morality aspect, hunting is legal and the discussion or ethical or moral implications is prohibited with a 100% legal sport as per forum rules.

    Also moving to hunting section.

Question on this outboard motor thing?

Does this mean you have to row out to your fav point of a lake, or estuary, etc that depending on size could be X kilometres to reach and return? Which could be a rather lengthy journey and a perilous one if the weather turned on you,and you need to get ashore or some other incident or accident happens??

Or does it mean it is prohibited to use the boat as a mobile motorised gun platform to flush out wildfowl? I mean it's hardly likely if you have set up cammo nets etc and turned your boat into an anchored duck blind with a decoy pattern set out on the water and anchored and are sitting there for a flight, that you are going to tear off to chase out birds? IOW is it totally illegal to use an outboard to get to the hunting ground, or just while actually hunting?

Section 44 of the 2000 act amends section 36 of the 1976 act, and both taken together prohibit the use of any mechanically propelled craft/vessel (including eletrically or even partically electrically driven) used to hunt or even disturb for the purpose of hunting any wild bird.

In short, using a mechanically propelled boat to flush or hunt for birds is prohibited. Section 44 also removes the section 42 allowance which seems to indicate there is no more section 42, derogation if you will, for such hunting.

Even shorter, row or its illegal.

You can use an engine to get to your destination, but not to hunt or flush ducks with loaded guns.
