I keep logging in and finding 99+ notifications and they're from posts in threads I don't think I've ever looked in never mind posted in.

I've checked my notification settings and none are in relation to post updates unless someone replies directly to me. It's all a bit confusing.

EDIT: Even if you could tell me how to unsubscribe from the liveline thread on desktop. It's not showing up on my threads list but I'm getting hundreds of notification from it.It's a nightmare.

I've deleted all notification settings but I'm still get 100's a day!

    Please help

This is still killing the experience of using the site. Anyone have a way to turn it off?

It fills up nearly all the screen when I'm getting these.

Can we please fix the subject on the email alerts for new posts?

Right now they show up like: "[boards.ie - Now Ye're Talkin'] USERNAME just added a comment in THREAD TITLE"

This takes up lots of space in a mobile email client such as Gmail and the thread that's been updated isn't immediately obvious.

My suggestion would be to change it to something like: "[boards.ie] THREAD TITLE has been updated by USERNAME"

    Thanks

When I get those and I click onto them, I read:

    ---------------

You don't have permission to do that.

The page you were looking for could not be found.

    -------------------------------------

What kind of nonsense is this?

You can manage your notification types here: https://www.boards.ie/profile/preferences/

I'd recommend turning off the pop-ups and emails for these options if you are getting a lot of notifications.

    • Notify me when people comment on my discussions.
    • Notify me when people comment on my bookmarked discussions.
    • Notify me when people comment on discussions I've participated in.

Sorry about that, is this happening for one specific thread notification or multiple threads?

We don't have direct control of the email layout or naming convention but I can suggest that the email titles are shortened.

Is it possible to stop drafts being saved automatically? There is a SAVE button but the draft is saved whether that is clicked or not then I have to go into profile and delete the draft that I didn't want to save in the first place...

Same thing after happening me,I am getting notifications from numerous threads in the Current Affairs forum which I never visit. How do I stop this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,030 ✭✭✭Deeper Blue

I'm also getting notifications despite never switching them on. I've now switched them off but they're still appearing. This only became an issue in the last 24 hours.

Same here, getting notifications from threads I'm pretty sure I've never even read let alone followed. Started last night.

Same here, I’ve started getting notifications and pop-ups since last night, despite not turning notifications on. Turning them off doesn’t seem to help.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,832 ✭✭✭✭DvB

Have tried changing notification settings and I've actually triggered more notifications from threads I 100% know I haven't looked at previously (didn't even know they existed in fact)

Just as the site had settled down and became reasonably okay to use again.... typical 😃

Yes, notifications coming from all over the place over the last 24 hours, and this is despite my selecting not to receive them in my preferences.

Another one getting notifications for posts in threads that I haven't subscribed to

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,205 ✭✭✭Lucas Hood

I have no notifications setup in preferences and still am getting notifications.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,803 ✭✭✭prunudo

Getting a lot the last 24hrs too. Appears to be from all threads in forums I follow. So say someone posts in any thread in current affairs, then I get a notification. Even if having never looked at or engaged in that particular thread before (or certainly not in recent memory).

Getting notifications from threads I've never followed here also . Crazy .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,734 ✭✭✭✭osarusan

I have every notification setting disabled except for notification of PM and 'mention' of me (when a post is quoted) but am still getting pop-up notifications of posts I have either never posted in, or last did so a long time ago.

Same re:notifications, all disabled but still getting pop-ups & alerts

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 912 ✭✭✭DrZeuss

Same here, every box unticked in notification settings but still getting notifications.

Similar situation for me - all notifications disabled but I'm getting pop-ups & alerts

same for me, all notications disbaled, pop-ups and alerts.

I'm getting these random notifications too, only started since this morning. I have unchecked everything in my preferences. Extremely annoying and another reason to consider not bothering using Boards any more which is a pity.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,205 ✭✭✭Lucas Hood

Can admin not turn off notifications altogether till this is fixed?

Isn't ironic that they said the old version of boards was broken but this incarnation is so **** broken beyond doubt

Getting **** spammed by notifications, it's so frustrating

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,461 ✭✭✭Frank Grimes

A random notification brought me here. I agree with turning them off until this is fixed.

It looks like I'm getting notifications for threads that are in forums I followed on the old site. Oddly enough, aside from this thread all the notifications are for threads I know I have read at some point (but not all were followed). Could be a coincidence I guess.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,963 ✭✭✭Vexorg

So many notifications, lots of triplicate pop ups. Have removed all ticks in settings so nothing enabled and still getting them.

    Please make it stop!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,910 ✭✭✭✭28064212

Correct, looks like they made a balls of migrating over the old followed forums - they don't show up in the new followed categories section, but they do have notifications switched on 🙄

Workaround for stopping the "random" notifications

(On desktop version) Go to the parent forum of any thread you're getting notifications for, and click the "Follow 🔔" button in the top right. Choose the "Follow" option from the radio button selection, then change it back to "Unfollow" (or you can leave it at Follow if you want it to show up in your followed categories, either way the notifications should stop)

Boardsie Enhancement Suite - a browser extension to make using Boards on desktop a better experience (includes full-width display, keyboard shortcuts, dark mode, and more). Now available through your browser's extension store.

Following the parent forum them unfollowing seems to have worked, thanks.

    Hello Niamh,

For me it started happening last night. It seems to happen randomly to threads that I don't follow or even accesses before - These threads are in forums that I used to follow before the migration - for example the Fantasy Arena (where the majority of notifications came for me).

I will try to disable all notification settings and let you know.

    Thank you

Not sure what's going on today, Notifications from threads I've never posted in, bizzarely users apparently mentioning me when they are absolutely not.

Thankfully I've long disabled email notifications due to prolonged issues never resolved prior to new platform launch.

Will, can? This new issue be resolved 🤔

Same as myself, started from this morning.

The site is an absolute shambles and has rightly died off, things should have been left as they were.

Same thing is happening to me too. Getting loads of notifications for forums I have looked at in the past, but I haven't followed or posted on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,880 ✭✭✭giveitholly

Is there any admins reading this thread,Any chance this could be resolved or at least give us an update?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,748 ✭✭✭Pelvis Parsley

We have to go away and fix it ourselves apparently.

Or we could just feck off.
