Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I don't know what it is but Full Metal Jacket just looks cool

Sidenote: It's mad looking back there was a time that I didn't have a clue who Carell and Dani were

Damnit, I missed a few. Going for Little Miss Sunshine here as it being bright and cheerful.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,546 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

Little Miss Sunshine if I'm not too late. Conveys the madness of the family road trip

The other one just says "I'm a war movie", it's generic, it could easily be Platoon etc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

At the buzzer we had Full Metal Jacket in charge so that marches on.

    Round 1

    Pulp Fiction (1994)

    Vs

    Star Wars (1977)

    Pulp Fiction (1994)

I will pick Uma Thurman looking seductive over that overrated star wars movie any day of the week, although the star wars poster isn't bad, the pulp fiction poster is way more iconic

  • Registered Users Posts: 779 ✭✭✭ChannelNo5

Star Wars. I think the artwork just pips it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,237 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Ah now that's just not fair. Both of these are final material.

The Pulp Fiction one reminds me of an ex and Star Wars is something I have loved more than any woman.

I'm actually going to go with Pulp Fiction but just barely as it is so eye catching. It's the kind of poster that would really make you stop and turn back if you passed on the street.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,511 ✭✭✭Purgative

Pulp Fiction - its more instant when you see it. The other you need to look longer to see the individual bits - clever though they are.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,546 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

Pulp Fiction because I had that poster on the wall as a teenage lad!

Pulp Fiction wins! That was a big match.

    Round 1

    Back to the Future (1985)

    VS

    Shaft (1971)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,503 ✭✭✭✭Also Starring LeVar Burton

Back To The Future ; sets the tone for the film

  • Registered Users Posts: 746 ✭✭✭Heraclius

Not sure if this is closed to new people submitting votes but if not I vote for

    Back to the future

The bright colours and dramatic font capture the spirit of the film better whereas the poster for Shaft is not very appealing and quite indistinct.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,237 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

BttF although it's as much a movie choice as a poster one. The poster is better but only just and both are only ok.

What is a Shaft btw? How can it be someone's "game" and how have people "got shaft up to here"

  • Registered Users Posts: 779 ✭✭✭ChannelNo5

Never seen the Shaft one before. its deadly!!

But so is the BTTF one.

I'm going to go for Shaft just cause its cooler looking.

Tricky one. I like both but prefer Clockwork Orange

Alien - it really sets the tone for the movie

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 80 ✭✭PogoRach

    Both of these are great...

A Clockwork Orange ; its a piece of art. You'd hang that in a museum.

    oof, too great posters.

I prefer A Clockwork orange as a film, but I find the Alien poster very effective - chilling, setting the mood for the film

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 16,287 Mod ✭✭✭✭quickbeam

Alien here though both are great.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,712 ✭✭✭Sawduck

    Alien

2 great posters, but I'll go with alien it is quite creepy looking and sets the tone for what's about to come

That's a tie so we go to reasons. Seen as multiquote is a load of gick on this new site I'll just have to say what's happened. @Purgative and @PogoRach gave Clockwork Orange as their answers but Purgy didn't elaborate. @Strawberry Milkshake and @Irish Aris went for Alien and gave good reasons why.

    Alien progresses.

    Round 1

Big Trouble in Little China (1986)

    VS

    Shawshank Redemption (1994)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 80 ✭✭PogoRach

Big Trouble In Little China ; shawshank obviously the superior film, but as posters go I think this just stands out more.

    Shawshank Redemption. Simple but effective.

Big Trouble is a little too busy IMO

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,712 ✭✭✭Sawduck

    Big Trouble in Little China

There is a lot happening in this poster, I find it more interesting

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

Shawshank gets in to Big Trouble as it's eliminated!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,511 ✭✭✭Purgative

Shawshank - direct impactful to the point. I dislike Big Trouble for the same reasons Ducky gave for liking it. Its busy and cartoony.

    Round 1

    Airplane! (1980)

    VS

    Trainspotting (1996)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,511 ✭✭✭Purgative

Airplane fortells of a zany, funny aeroplane movie.

Trainspotting is OK, but iy doesn't pull me to the movie more than say word of mouth or early reviews did.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,237 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

    Airplane

Mostly because I hate the trainspotting poster. Not sure if it's the really annoying looking guy in the middle or if it's the million copy cats that followed but I hate looking at it

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,712 ✭✭✭Sawduck

    Airplane! (1980)

Love it, it's so goofy just like the movie itself

  • Registered Users Posts: 779 ✭✭✭ChannelNo5

Airplane! No earth shattering reason. just like it better than the trainspotting one. Not pushed about either tbh

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

A whitewash. Thought Trainspotting had a bit of an iconic aura to it but maybe that's the subsequent Choose Life monologue which was posterised.

    Airplane! adavances

    Round 1

    Halloween (1978)

    VS

Attack of the 50 Foot Woman (1958)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,511 ✭✭✭Purgative

Halloween - speaks of the shocks to come.

Attack of - nah just silly

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,712 ✭✭✭Sawduck

Attack of the 50 Foot Woman

I think its class, never seen the movie though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 80 ✭✭PogoRach

Really like both of these for different reasons, hard to decide...

Attack of the 50 Foot Woman ; gut feeling, I may as well have flipped a coin

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

The giant lady stomps on through!
