PIltown the form team and dicksboro have struggled with back to back, but I take the Boro by 3to retain their title.

Do you think Derek Lyng and Peter Donovan have the capability of building a team. I personally have my doubts. I still think we are a very badly coached team and the buck stops with Peter Donovan for that and if all rumours are true he's still in his position with Kilkenny. People say give him a chance but in two years he's done sweet.... all. Hasn't put any stamp on the team wouldn't go with young players when it came to championship.

A question for this forum if we were in Munster would we get out of Munster? Would we challenge for a Munster title ? Or would we be looking at a 4th place finish.

Another question what qualified Derek Lyng and Peter Donovan for the top job

    Was it a U20 title?

Apologies if I sound negative but mostly what I see on this forum is discussion about players ability but I really think we have to look at management ability

Look forward to everyone's comments on my post.

Going off Championship form last year Kilkenny would not get out of Munster, they would struggle to beat Waterford.

We drew with Carlow, a bad Galway team and struggled to beat Wexford and Dublin. We won the Leinster final well but Dublin were poor too. Clare hurled for 20 mins after Kilkenny got the goal and were much better.

We need to build for 2/3 years time not be bringing on Conor Fogarty or Walter Walsh when Clare are pushing up the pitch, this could have exploited with some pace but the 2 lads are too old and it really went against us unfortunately.

If we rebuild this year and take the good with the bad we will be in a strong position down the line if if we stick like we did the last year we will be in the same position in 2 years. I am surprised there is very little retirements/players dropped to date.

Look at Tipp the rebuild is underway.

TIpp have a manager in place doing that trying to re build

    Not sure we have that

The panel has gone awful stale the last few years we need the exuberance of youth young legs all over the field and hungry players

Try them let them make mistakes don’t just discard them after one poor performance

I’m not sure lyng is the man to bring us forward if we don’t get a coach involved who can implement a system similar to how olg or thomastown play as others have said on here there playing the modern game and how it’s played at inter county level

And they have done that in 2-4 years with thoose teams

Who needs to be let go from the panel and who needs to be brought in?

I heard from a very reliable source in Pat Carroll’s last Sunday night at 3am that Fionàn was tapped up by Phil Hogan to come to Kilkenny with the offer of a job he wasn’t qualified for, a car supplied by Lyngs and a house on the Bleach Road. A guaranteed spot on the Loughlins and Kilkenny team with the position picked by himself. The transfer figure he received was a six figure sum.

As opposed to making his own decision in life to move to a different county to work and choose not to do an 8 hour round trip 3 days a week back to his native county to play for them.

Strangely, if its level at the end of normal time , theres 1o mins each way extratime, and if still level then a replay… and not straight to a reply as was outlined earlier ?

What was the draw to Kilkenny ? I'm sure there was equally if not more employment opportunities in Cork or Limerick. Would he feel he would not make the set up for those 2 counties or might he have to hurl for Kerry if he was that close to home ?

Eoin Cody’s take on the whole scenario.

Limerick would be less than one hour from North Kerry, so if played senior hurling with Kilmallock for example he would definitely be expected to travel back home for Kerry training, prob same if he joined a Cork senior club.

He seems ambitious (winning back to back Poc Fada titles) so I’d say he wanted to try out Kilkenny hurling and see how far he could get and work in his area of agricultural science while up in Kilkenny too.

Well, Lyng did win 6 Senior All Irelands on the field , was part of a backroom team that won two more and did three years as under21/20 manager delivering our only All Ireland in 10 years in his final year. Not a total novice you might agree.

The winning team is always best coached in most peoples minds. Shamrocks were for 5/6 years with 3 different management teams. OLG have 9 senior county panellists including the Kerryman, so they should stand out. Thomastown coach is Sean Kelly and he has been heavily involved in KK underage squads for years. Thomastown spent 4 of the last 5 years trying to get out of intermediate, so its all about who is winning now IMO.

Fair enough comments you're obviously a fan but I'm still not convinced

half time in the junior semi final windgap 1-13 Emeralds 0-15

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,282 ✭✭✭Marrooned

Emmet Landy stood out for Windgap and Sean Purcell was also good, Emeralds lost their way completely in the second half. Freshford bet the village well where Daragh Queely , James Maher and Brian Kennedy were good.

2 strong performances from Windgap and Lachtains. Going on yesterday I'd have Windgap as slight favs but you could probably toss a coin as to who'll win

intermediate final came good in the last quarter with young Irelands pushing hard for a win, but Lisdowney the better team overall.

The fact that there's not one post here about the intermediate county final or the Senior Camoige final goes to show that this Forum is dominated by posters from the city, especially Dicksboro. One of our three major finals played today and not one comment or post...strange.

Must have missed your posts about those matches

Yeah its confusing alright , i used to think the sign for windgap was for overloaded trucks to pull in on the side of the road on my way up from wexford , i never taught they were talking about the junior hurling champions elect …😁

Disgraceful that there was no program with the camogie teams in it unless they were selling a separate program to the hurling game? Thought Piltown backs were excellent in particular the half back line and they deserved win. Number 13 for Piltown had a great game as well and the sub they brought on at the end of the first half (21) made a big difference in the forwards playing into the wind in the second half.

Intermediate was a tense game but overall Lisdowney deserved it. Took their goals well and there backs absorbed a lot of pressure in the second half. Wasn’t a classic by any means but no one in Lisdowney will care about that. After being on field after the game it was much colder and windier on the pitch that in the stand.

Old enough to remember Lisdowney being one of the worst teams in junior hurling in the early to mid 2000’s, great example of what happens when you put in work at underage what can happen. Delighted for them.

The junior final should be a very good game. Both clubs need to get to Intermediate but only one winner. Surely the 2nd team competition deserve to get to Quarter final at best. Very unfair that a team gets to Nowlan Park for a semi final. Most times they get well bet in the semi final.

Intermediate final was an average contest, bad weather brought the quality down, Micheal Carey is a good athlete and tries hard but his hurling is very limited, the first Lisdowney goal came from a clearance where Carey was standing on his own and miss hit the ball straight to a Lisdowney man 10 yards infront of him Hard to see any players on show that can be new additions to the Kilkenny panel.

No different to having the Palestinian flag really. If ones acceptable, then the other should be too.

Either way, it has nothing to do with Kilkenny GAA.

Delighted for piltown yesterday..goals win games but they werethe better team overall id say..its a pity the mens team has never pushed on a bit to go up to intermediate..its a big parish and has better facilities than a lot of clubs .

With the village going down to intermediate next year yesterdays final was a great one to win for lisdowney yesterday..

Mikey carey isn't the most stylish hurler but i would still have him as a wing back for kilkenny next year..with blanchfield at 6 i dont think there are 2 better wing backs out there to be able to drop carey..

Windgap and Freshford are definitely the 2 best teams in junior at the moment..As a south kilkenny man ill be shouting for windgap. I would like to see thomastown win too..they seem to be playing a nice brand of hurling and are on a roll since last year
