What common car faults do you notice while driving around. I will start with 2
Nissan qashqai - rear boot plastic over the reg taped on
Toyota celica 00 model - petrol caps broke off

I can change with a blind fold, hung upsides down, drunk, while underwater.

Again on J10 Qashqais, the rear bulb holders fail and cause a disco when you brake and indicate at the same time.

Old fiat punto brakes and indicators disco

The occasional old Ford Focus/Fiesta with no front insignia because the bonnet lock is broken.

Wake me up when it's all over.

Mk5 golf/audi A3 rear windscreen wiper motor failing. Normally mid sweep. We had 2 A3s, matching his and hers and both had motors die.

    BMW's and some Audi's indicators don't work

They do, it's just the driver doesn't use them.

    Gob****es behind the wheel

who don’t now what all the dials and nobs mean and thus don’t indicate, leave on fog lights and don’t know why other cars flash them at nite even when there is a big blue light on the dash

The narrower a man’s mind, the broader his statements.

Mrk 1 Focus Clocks/Instrument cluster faults!

    Dead common!

Bad solder joints on the back is the cause and can be fixed with a soldering iron and some flux.

Back door locks mark 2 Leon

Half those circular back lights gone on 08 09 avensis

Ford springs, replaced loads of them on Focus and Fiesta.

Plus Ford leaking boots, particularly on the Focus.

Nissan Qashqai’s with every bit of the front suspension knackered, ball joints, track rod ends , wishbone bushes, inner tie rods, subframe bushes, cv boots and anti roll bar links. Scrap. And that’s just the front suspension, I won’t get into the corrosion issues.

Had an escort leaked in the end, Mondeo - leaked at the end, cmax - leaked like crazy. Tried a VW, leaked too and yes it was a Passat. It was a blocked train in the Passat, battery corrosion on the escort, brake light cluster on the Mondeo, never found the cause in the cmax mind.

Front tyres bald as kojack too... I never saw a yoke like them to wear tyres.

Renault 18 speedo needle bending up and touching the glass.

Second generation avensis (07), water in rear lights. Also on a cold morning, iced over inside the cabin on windscreen. Both issues were old worn seals. Met a few owners over the years with exact same issues.

Every single Peugeot 207/208 with all the lights on in rear cluster constantly. Surely these are a garda magnet and can’t possibly have a NCT.

As mentioned already, the quasqui with tape over section above number plate.

BMW’s with broken indicators or is that too close to the bone ?

VW golf with very visible vibrating back box once it gets over 100kmph. Seen quite a few of these and curious as to cause.

Mk2 micra - rear window rubber seal peeling away at the top
Kia ceed - one of the front light strips not working in the headlamp, i read that it was a free warranty replacement
Red Toyota avensis - paint faded "many free re-sprays"
Almera n15 - with side sills rust repaired
Civic ek/ej - rear arches visibly rust treated
Vw/audi - fog light surround missing

These are common car faults ive seen over the years while driving around

3 bulbs in them so usually 1 or 2 gone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,522 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

And because they’re not all blown, the driver usually doesn’t notice
