    Dead common!

Bad solder joints on the back is the cause and can be fixed with a soldering iron and some flux.

Didn't work for me so got one down the scrapyard for €20 job done.

Nissan Qashqai’s with every bit of the front suspension knackered, ball joints, track rod ends , wishbone bushes, inner tie rods, subframe bushes, cv boots and anti roll bar links. Scrap. And that’s just the front suspension, I won’t get into the corrosion issues.

Had an escort leaked in the end, Mondeo - leaked at the end, cmax - leaked like crazy. Tried a VW, leaked too and yes it was a Passat. It was a blocked train in the Passat, battery corrosion on the escort, brake light cluster on the Mondeo, never found the cause in the cmax mind.

Front tyres bald as kojack too... I never saw a yoke like them to wear tyres.

Renault 18 speedo needle bending up and touching the glass.

Second generation avensis (07), water in rear lights. Also on a cold morning, iced over inside the cabin on windscreen. Both issues were old worn seals. Met a few owners over the years with exact same issues.

Every single Peugeot 207/208 with all the lights on in rear cluster constantly. Surely these are a garda magnet and can’t possibly have a NCT.

As mentioned already, the quasqui with tape over section above number plate.

BMW’s with broken indicators or is that too close to the bone ?

VW golf with very visible vibrating back box once it gets over 100kmph. Seen quite a few of these and curious as to cause.

3 bulbs in them so usually 1 or 2 gone.

And because they’re not all blown, the driver usually doesn’t notice

FIAT - first the rear wiper goes because the motor isn't waterproof , then after you should have taken the hint and sold the car on the rest of the electrics fail in cascade.

FIAT, Citroen and VW , central locking or electric door locks fail intermittently so you can't get out of the car. That's the time to remove the relay or fuse and rely on the mechanical locks. Or take the door apart to re solder the dry joints in the door lock sensors. And replace the plastic clips for the windows with metal ones while you're in there.

Saab 9-5 Direct injection cassette failing

Not an expensive DIY repair, but not noticing the symptoms can result in additional engine wear and the turbo might suffer too

  • Registered Users Posts: 73,382 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm
