Received a fine in the post for not paying toll, even though I paid the toll

Yeah, that rings a bell. I was a bit lost and stressed out, and that combined with being unaware about tolls, probably resulted in me going through it without thinking.

In my limited experience of driving to Dublin, I thought all tolls had barriers and booths. I wasn't aware you had to pay online to use some of them.

Give them a ring and tell them what happened they might cut you some slack, whatever you do don't ignore it as it will rise very quickly.

Sh!t happens op, give them a ring they will likely let you just pay the toll and clear the fine.

Keep an eye out for road signs next time

They probably get the "I didn't know I had to pay" line every day. Better just paying the small penalty fee.

They probably do but from experience they're very good to deal with.

I've a tag but on a few occasions I've been driving a rental or a loaner and forgotten to pay and when I ring them up they've waived the fine and let me pay just the toll.

    That's the port tunnell toll.

Doesn't matter what you call it, it's still on the M50.
I think it's the M4 I'm thinking of; where I remember putting money into the baskets.

I'm even more confused now why I'm getting a letter about M50 toll fines.

Where did your journey start and end?

I think what happened to OP is he went 88MPH in his delorean.

But seriously ring them up asap and pay whatever they ask by credit card over the phone. The toll is typically 3 euro then 6 euro, then 46 euro, then 146 euro. It goes up the longer you do not pay. Often if you ring 3 euro is ok.

As others have said register for a free video account if you are an in frequent user with bad eyesight.

They do but from reading posts here they are also easy to deal with once you make contact. IIRC they'll usually remove the penalty fines if you set up a video account and pay the tolls you missed.

OP, take a listen back to a recent live line with Joe 'wash your hands" Duffy, he had a call from a very distressed but quite dim motorist who didn't pay her toll, her little forgetfulness started at €100, numerous letters, summonses , failed court appearances and Zero sympathy from those who follow the thread, her forgetfulness ended at €8,000 and rising owing and car seizure, and pathetic crocodile tears . But I must admit, one of the funniest day of posts on any thread on Boards in quite some time.

    Pay up and move on.

Why do people respond to threads after only having read the first post.
I can understand not reading every post on longer threads but this one is pretty short and a quick scan will give you the full story.
