Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I agree. I'm currently standing in my shower with the light off. Absolutely soaked, cold and dark.

    Whereabouts are you?

Wall-to-wall sunshine the length and breadth of the country was never forecast unfortunately.

Also, as I say every single summer, cloud cover is notoriously difficult to forecast correctly in Ireland, particularly under high pressure conditions. However by Friday several models had begun to pick up on today being cloudy in many areas for a time.

In Dublin at least, you're as likely to get sunshine in summer under low pressure as you are under high pressure.

Some of the nicest days in Dublin are when there's low pressure just off the Atlantic coast, showers out west but not reaching far inland, and a south or south west breeze, when temps around 20º or a touch more are common.

When there's high pressure coastal areas are often plagued by sea fog, a cold sea breeze - or as with today - half the country can magically get stuck under a bank of cloud.

Where I am in Dun Laoghaire it's now partly cloudy and about 22º. We've barely seen rain in two weeks and temps have been just under 20º most days in June. Better than last year at least!

Hopefully the sun will poke through in the next hour or so but with all this cloud I think 25/26C is off the table.

22C here despite the low hanging cloud. If we were to get even an hour of sunshine the temperature would easily make it to 24C.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,943 ✭✭✭YellowLead

Yeah but if you checked the ACTUAL forecast for your specific region, on your phone for example it would have shown warm but cloudy.

In Sligo today helping out on my fathers farm and the sun was glorious. I had to stay in shade after a while. I have no idea what the OP is on about, unless its possible that you can have different weather in different parts of the country?!?!

It's warm and dry today. I love it. I'm not a fan of intense sunshine.

The forecast for a heatwave has been inaccurate all week.

Thankfully as a Pm north westerly arrives mid week we'll see an end to this vile weather with more in the way of sunshine :)

The only ones forecasting a heatwave were the tabloids and everyone should know better than to listen to them...

Grey all day, currently 16 degrees in Galway City. At least it's dry - you have to be thankful for small mercies.

Dry, cloudy and warm in Meath. I was hoping for sunshine but it’s still really pleasant.

Wall to wall sunshine here in Ballygarrett Wexford, probably close to 24° scorcher of a day.
100km on the bike has me horloxed :)

24.6 average from the three sensors in the shade here in S Wexford. Your internal thermometer is bang on.

I'm also hoping for my second perfect solar curve since the PV array was installed in September last.

Temp in the greenhouse here is 34°, that's with the windows and door open .

Raining in Offaly, after a dull listless day. Absolute melt of a forecast. Completely wrong for most.

  • Registered Users Posts: 626 ✭✭✭Mullaghteelin

Dew points are high, so it should feel close, muggy and sweaty whether it's sunny or not.
I feel Irish people are too focused on sunshine when looking for good weather. Many a sunny day at this time of year will see temperatures stuck in the mid-teens on the east coast with a chilly sea breeze. People will perceive that as heatwave weather, but moan about cloudier but WARMER weather on a day like today.

Any forecast i heard or saw clearly said East Leinster and some Southern countues were going to get the hot temperatures and sunshine . Rest of the country cloudy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,991 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Met Eireann seem to have got most of this wrong for most of the country.

I remember watching it coming into the end of last week with a tinge of jealousy, as I would be working nights and I thought I was going to miss a great weekend.

It appears I didn't miss much in the end. Ok so it's been mostly dry but they did say Sunday would be a very good day. It's basically weatherless all day here. Warm and cloudy.

What’s wrong with sunshine? It’s certainly my definition of good weather!
Would prefer 19 degrees and full sunshine without clouds, than 24 and overcast. Even in winter sunshine lifts the spirits.

Glorious in Cork City! Really warm but sapphire blue sky and practically cloudless. Breeze in the shade.

Cloudy warm weather is oppressive at a certain point. Mugginess is horrible - it's draining, and quite miserable for people with allergies, asthma etc. And hard to dry clothes in, whereas I did a big pile of laundry yesterday (also warm but more close) and it was dry in no time.

    Dry heat can't be beat.

But it exceeded 25° in Dublin today, the only place that is important in the country (joking!). So they said it would get to 25° and it did, plus a bit more. Why does this thread exist then? You're complaining about something not happening that actually did happen.

I think met eireann were spot on with the weather.

Btw, sunny and hot in South Tipperary most of the day.

Maybe there were misleading stories about the whole country getting such weather.

Moral: only look up the weather forecast.

Highs of 17, grey most of day. It fupping rained for abit aswell. Midlands

    Bullsh1t day!!!

In south America and some countries in Europe, the whole staff of equivalent met eireann there would be fired for the mess of forecasting this week.

Ah jeez forecasters can only go by the indications, which are usually pretty close - how would doing what they always do be grounds for firing? And again, there were warm, sunny and dry conditions in places, so they were correct about them.

Nobody was deliberately being hoodwinked - that's absurd.

How were they spot on? They weren’t at all. There was no mention on their tweets about a significant portion of central Ireland and Northern Ireland being cloudy all day and some heavy rain??

This was their 2pm Tweet :-

With 🌡️ pushing 20+°C already, here is the afternoon update:

Warm & dry with sunny spells🌤️ in most areas this afternoon.

Cooler & cloudier☁️ near coasts in SW, W & NW with patches of drizzle & mist.

      Highs🌡️ of 19 to 24°C generally, 15 to 19°C near Atlantic coasts
