    Review

Well here is where I stand with this song, I’m not a fan of it though I very much like Warrant. Any other song by them would have scored higher I think. This was a commercial success when released, highly influenced by the likes of Def Leppard and Skid Row sounds. I read that it wasn’t really a band discussion but rather a record label’s to write and release this poppy number. I don’t really know what it is that puts me off this song because I do like songs that sound similar and Jani’s voice is great. I didn’t want to score it lower as it is definitely a genre track but unlucky picking this one.

Steel Panther, and every band they rip the piss of, I reckon.

Not heard this song before and I’m not overly familiar with the band. I can see how Guns ‘N Roses were influenced by these guys, similar look and sound in their early career. This song has a punk sound to it which I’m not really into. I was sure I knew the verse sample and indeed it is from Mony Mony by Tommy James and The Shondells. The rest of the song is nice hard rock, I can go with that. I will check out more of this band. Kudos for picking an unreleased track and something new for me. Unfortunately not the sound I was hoping for.

    Review

Brilliant pick, love this song. It is on my daily playlist. That opening, you just know it is going to be a fun track. It has everything in abundance, guitar, drums, vocals are all excellent. Very sign-along lyrics. It is a bit poppy but heavy enough to keep me interested. I have not heard too much of Autograph, they are another band I want to listen to more too. This is their signature song. Got lots of airplay on MTV and probably heavily pushed by their record label. Songs like these are usually a dime a dozen but this one works really well, an excellent pick.

This is what people always say, but its never the case for me. I find it to be one of those vague sub-genres that only a handful of songs (that I've been assured are indeed Hair Metal) seem to actually fit into.

Its not a diss at all, I like the majority of the songs that have appeared in the round, its just a sub-genre I've never been able to quite pin down without googling "is (insert song here) considered hair metal"?

Surprised I wasn’t familiar with this song. From one of the earlier Kiss albums, Dynasty. The version nominated was the unplugged one but I have listened to the original also and I have to say I like both equally. Starts a little funky and I wasn’t immediately drawn to it but as soon as the corus kicks in it gets heavy. Very catchy and I found myself singing this to myself long after listening to it. Easy lyrics to follow along to, I could see this one being popular at gigs. A great pick, especially staying away from the more well known Kiss songs.

I think any 80s rock song where long permed hair or mullet hair is in the video :P

Not a song I'd listen to often, but each time I hear I think, a great sound. Love the power chords here and the corus is great from an equally great verse build up. Guitar solo is pretty generic but works great here. Doken is a band I need to listen to more, I keep forgetting how excellent they were. Written for the movie A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 3, with the promo video featuring Patricia Arquette and Robert Englund. This is really the kind of sound I like, a great pick.

P.S. and you dont know what hair metal is.....

Worthy winner LeVar, great pick. Haven't heard that song in years and I'm delighted to be reminded of its existence.

    The winner of Kolrus is...

    CeeJay

Congratulations CeeJay, fantastic scoring all game and a very deserving winner.

Very unlucky to Stu and LeVar, very good scoring also, just piped to the post by a couple of points.

Well played to EN also, you were not letting that wooden spoon go from round 2

Thanks indeed to everyone who took part, I had a lot of fun running this, found some great music along the way. I didn't realise how much time running a walrus would take, but if you haven't ran one yet, I'd highly recommend it.

A specail thanks must go to Rikand, I know you didn't play but you brought a brilliant game to our community, thank you dude.

Thats all from me, hope everyone had fun and took my reviews in good spirits. Next up for me is the overrated song tournament starting July 19th, hope to see you all then.

    Your winning entry.

Yeah, still not entirely sure what Hair Metal is, and shocked I topped the round. :pac:

This was one of the few songs I was 100% certain was Hair Metal and one I'm a big fan of.

Glad it's one you like too.

Congrats Cee_jay and EN, some great choices along they way! Great stuff Kolido sorry I missed it live. I thought I'd gotten close to Hair Metal with a Bowie/Queen song but I remain a bit unsure :pac: that said I'm delighted you discovered an appreciation for the song :)

It's funny the round I would have looked forward to, the one that motivated me to enter was my worst score :D Very happy with overall mid table mediocrity :)
