CONTIGUOUS ELEVATIONS requested by Planning

Planning have referred back application for a small domestic side extension (4m. long, set back from building line and not extending the overall length) to a very large detached house with need for contiguous elevations. House being extended is c. 30 m long and neighbouring houses are also large detached.
Is the planners interest the side elevation of the house on the same side as extension - a guess?
Would planning ever accept a photomontage of the combined elevations professionally done since it will be difficult to get access to the two neighbouring houses?

when you say "referred back" do you mean at Further Information stage, or they've invalidated the application?

then a photomontage wont suffice, you will need to include contiguous elevations to a metric scale.

if you dont have access to physically measure the property, check to see if theres a planning application on the property where you may be able to get dimensions.

otherwise just try to scale it as best you can from eye.

Yes thanks. Found an old set of drawings on original planning file at 1/500 so I can use them after checking on site for new windows etc. Its hard to see much detail at that scale!!

Yes completely normal.
Streetscape or contiguous elevations always required even for the smallest of developments.

Montage no good as it has to be scaled as per the other drawings.

1/500 won’t suffice for your elevations. So just be aware of that.

Normally 1/500 is the max for site plans.

Site layout plan (six copies): The scale should not be less than 1:500. The site should be marked in red showing all relevant features

I guess it could vary by council.
Max ive ever done is 1/100.

7. What information must be included in a valid planning application?
In general, a valid planning application must always include:
copies of public notices; (newspaper notice and site notice) (See Questions 13 & 14); the name and address of the applicant, the area and location of the land or structure concerned and the legal interest of the applicant;
all the required plans, maps and drawings and a schedule listing the plans, maps and drawings;
a location map (minimum scale 1:1000); site or layout plans (minimum scale 1:500); other plans and elevations of proposals; (minimum scale 1:200) (except for outline permission);
a plan showing the position on the land where the site notice has been erected;
the appropriate fee; and
six copies of plans and maps. In the case of protected structures or proposed protected structures, ten copies are usually required.

1/200 is allowable for the elevation.
