"The Boystown platform, which had a membership of more than 400,000 international subscribers and was active for almost two years, was accessible only via the darknet, a component of the wider internet for which special software is needed. It was used for the swapping and sharing of images and films, mainly of boys, according to investigators from Germany’s federal investigative police force (BKA)."

Any technical people out there know if it's possible to get real IP addresses from this subscriber dataset? They must be tied to a purchase somewhere along the line? Asking for an overworked friend.

I assume everything was done through Tor and any transactions were done through crypto so I don’t imagine you’ll have much luck finding answers through social media

There's some tech savvy people on here who might know if they ever see this. It's a longshot but nothing ventured etc.

A fourth man arrested, a 64-year-old from Hamburg, is believed to have been one of the most active members of the site, posting more than 3,500 times.

So yes they can go after users of the site, people are careless and leave evidence behind especially when they think they are invulnerable to tracking.
However it's very time consuming to track them down. If the police go after more users it will be just some of the more active ones who posted thousands of images.

Using tor and tails it's unlikely to catch anyone
If using bitcoin then there might be a trail but like another poster stated it would be too much work for the reward. Man hours etc.

You can still browse the dark net without any of the ad ons or anonymity so if some users got lazy it's a possibility. Doubtful though

    I hoped you use Thor..

The WWW is the tip of the iceberg, the data residing on the darkweb is what you see under the water. If they semi competent browsing and uploading or buying their fine. If they post content that reveals their identity its careless.

We might revile them but there are still civil rights you know. Suspend those for some may jeopardize them for all.

You can't charge someone for having certain thoughts.
I'm sure there's plenty of men who have fantasized about killing the mother-in-law, and some who might do it, given the opportunity. It's not illegal to have thoughts.

    .

There are no victimless crimes in the rape and sexual mutilation of a baby, or toddler, or little child.

Darina Allens husband - a convicted paedophile - was allowed plead guilty to just ONE case of the 40,000 images of depraved acts on children. MNy of these children were trafficed or kidnapped or missing and were never recovered.

He was allowed make this plea in Irish courts and given a 9 month sentence which was then changed to NO jail time but a cushy 240 hours community service. Their Ballymaloe cookery school and guesthouse website pre covid still showed family rooms to rent in their guesthouse with teddybears for children on the beds and a playground outside the front door.. She NEVER stood up against him and RTE, and the Examiner still promote her & her products and disgustingly they have/had become entwined with a schools programme - giving access to classrooms and children all around the country. You couldn’t make it up.

Extermination like rabid rats is too good for them. - all of them. Taking the photos, paying to see them, kidnapping or tricking and abusing the children, doing the website that enables it, being the finamcier or accountant - all of them. Make it a consequence so ****ing frightening that they will never be involved. Assets seized, proceeds or suspected proceeds of crime - every ****ing one of them and their wives and children.

Every time I see that Ballymaloe relish I feel sick.

It's not porn. It's child abuse images.

Thread title should be changed too. Calling it "child porn" is minimizing what it is and is actually offensive

There are more than you think.

    Now, Ill keep things vague.

Many moons ago, in my office, I had to work quite hard to get a good rating.

My other colleague had it cushy and better pay another higher plush department, not his own office like the top brass, but everything else bar that.

5 years after I left that place of work saw his mugshot in evening herald after conviction for multiple child porn images

How the mighty had fallen, and never to return.

I read overheals post simply as a reminder to leave the pitchforks at home and let this be investigated properly?

I find it’s very difficult to follow a debate on any crimes against children because so many people freak out and immediately want to lynch any suspects. Not that anyone on thread acted that way yet

Suddenly child porn is the wrong thing to call it yet all the relevant international and national laws refer to it commonly as child pornography. eg. https://www.justice.gov/criminal-ceos/citizens-guide-us-federal-law-child-pornography

That's my take yes. Very easy for rabblerousers to scream for executions and castrations but I ask seriously for what. If someone sexually assaults a minor, absolutely make your case, trying to execute those that have more meagerly just the whatever you call it, mis-wiring, mental illness, whatever, is taking it to genocidal extremes so I wondered where the line was they crossed into being executed by the mob.

You are 100% correct but to be fair to that poster and any others calling it "porn" or "pornography" it's also how the mainstream media report these stories by and large. Both RTE and the Irish Times both using that term today in reference to this story for example.

I knew someone who worked in the area and she was blue in the face from trying to get people to use "child abuse imagery" as a descriptive rather than CP.

Long before CA when this sort of thing belonged in AH you had to be the first in with the castration remark or you wouldn't get the dozens of thanks shoveled on.

    'child porn'

    'child a*buse im*a*gery'

I can see why the media, social media included, sticks with the former.

The illegality and morality surrounding Child Pornography has been well documented for decades at this point.

Anybody taking the effort to seek out this type of material knows full well what they are doing and how the images they are viewing are created. This isn't a new phenomenon and there are literally no excuses that can be leveraged in defence of engaging in such behaviour.

    Glazers Out!
