Niigata - the yellow on red is very striking

    It's a tie... Standby for a decision...

Late at work...would have gone with Niigata

    This is a tough one but I'm gonna consider that some posters touched on the same ideas and they're ones I agree with. The flow and the symmetry as mentioned here;
Fukuoka - simple and i like a symmetrical design
Fukuoka, has a nice flow to it.

I have to admit, though, davetherave's reason is probably what clinches it though.
Fukuoka, the other one doesn't know whether it wants to be Chinese or something Elvish. That's far too vague for a flag. This is serious business. My reasoning for Fukuoka stands as per the last round.

Fukuoka - Blue beats purple and there is endless things that it could represent, a Celtic knot, Spaghetti Junction on the M6 outside of Birmingham, an octopus doing his best Harry Houdini escapism act, a poorly designed version of the 5 rings on some knock-off, cheap, fake Olympic Games merchandise?

Fukuoka as it gives a sea vibe

Shizuoka orange on blue, very effective.

Okayama, Japan's Barney colour is more striking :p

Definitely Shizuoka here, my favourite by a distance in this competition.

    Colours, design, mountain, everything works.

Shizuoka - this was a grower but Mt. Fuji and I are now firm friends :)

Shizuoka - hard to say why

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,138 ✭✭✭Uncharted

Okayama all day long. Its a beauty.

Iv been rooting for the Wario flag all along.
    Also,yup the Wexico colours.

Shizuoka - nicer colours and, once it's pointed out to you, you can't stop seeing Mount Fuji

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,823 ✭✭✭✭ShaneU

Okayama because it's regal looking. The other one is meh, like something you'd see on the side of a boat.

Shizuoka. one of the worlds most iconic mountains on a flag is enough but the colours are sriking too

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,911 ✭✭✭Citizenpain

    Okayama
    It’s fab

Okayama. Looks like a frowning power ranger.

Apologies, fell asleep last night. At the 25 minute mark we had a clear winner however.

    The famed Random Number Generator TM has done it's thing and the semi final line-up is complete. We will run both semis and the final this evening folks. Here's the time table for your consideration;

    Semi Final 1 at 7PM

    Semi Final 2 at 8PM

    Grand Final at 9PM

Hope to see you all there!

Semi Final 1 (30 minute time limit)

    Shizuoka

    thumb2-4k-shizuoka-flag-japanese-prefectures-3d-waves-flag-of-shizuoka.jpg

Stylised map of the prefecture and Mount Fuji. Blue stands for the sky and the Pacific Ocean and orange for sun light, passion and unity of people.

    VS

    Aichi

    thumb2-4k-aichi-flag-japanese-prefectures-3d-waves-flag-of-aichi.jpg

Stylised hiragana of あいち (Aichi). The emblem also expresses sunrise and wave to indicate Aichi's location facing the Pacific Ocean.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,714 ✭✭✭✭Earthhorse

Aichi - it's just cooler looking than the other one. Very slick.

Both are really nice. Actually was just looking back at the four finalists and they are all four great symbols, to be honest.

But here, I'll go with Shizuoka as the Mt. Fuji in orange looks really nice against the blue.

I admittedly haven't been keeping abreast of things but are these two really two of the four best flags that Japan has to offer?

That blue and orange combination always seems to do well in these things.

I'll go for Shizuoka because it is quite a nice colour combo and a bit more unique than red/white.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,835 ✭✭✭ari101

Shizuoka - the other is nice, but I'm voting for a volcano :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,991 ✭✭✭Cosmo Kramer

Shizuoka for me as well, it's really nice bothe in terms of colours and design.

But if I'm ever looking for ideas to design a car manufacturers badge I reckon Aichi would be my first port of call.

Shizuoka the orange on blue is stunning. Mt Fuji rocks.

Shizuoka just has that bit more at this stage of the competition. Flags without red are quite a rarity, and this one is a good one of the kind.
