Just to go back about various butchers…

Where’s the best shout for bacon & sausages? I would assume O’Mahoneys would have them but wondering if somewhere else specialises in same.

I like the bacon from the little stall by the fountain. The smoked streaky is what I go for. The sausages o mahonys sell are from Bresnan's. Decent sausages.

Stephen's Bacon or something? Mainly red & white? Figured there would have been a good shout given the name, but wanted to check.

O'Flynn's on Marlboro Street. Best sausages in town, Lots of different types and a few unusual flavours. Made on Thursdays, sometimes sold out by Saturday!

I think the SuperValu own brand are nicer, more meat in them IMO.

Yeah. I don't think there's any one best sausage.
I really enjoy Tesco finest sausages but I'm not going to claim that they are "the best sausages".

yeah I don't think there is a "best" sausage.. v subjective..

we didn't like the SV signature sausages at all - they were v fatty..

we usually get O'Flynn's - the brand.. love their cumberland one - v high meat % .. nice and peppery..

gonna have to check out O'Flynn's Marlboro st for this weelends sausage fix.. never been in there..

For the long weekend, I picked up bits and pieces from various Cork businesses for our breakfast.

Streaky rashers came from Stephen's Bacon in the English market. 1/2lb for less than €2, good value. I enjoyed them, but I found that there was some rind on each strip which, when cooked, became very hard and unpleasant to eat. For the second morning, I cut these off and this was better.

Sausages & pudding came from O'Flynn's. This was a good experience - it happened to be quiet (much more quiet than the English Market!). One of the butchers was at the door, immediately asked what I wanted, brought me over and explained what they have. €4 for four HUGE sausages, and €3 for 6 pieces of pudding. The sausages are totally different to what I'm used to from Tesco etc, totally different texture. The pudding was excellent.

Not from a butcher, but I picked up a baguette from both Camerons and Panabread. The latter is more expensive than the former, and far more crusty. Neither were what I was looking for exactly, but they did the job.
