Starlink - Anyone get it yet?

Has any one had problems ordering Starlink. I went to do it twice now, after I approved payment on bankapp. The order screen dissappeared and stright back to the home page. Any ideas? Thanks

very same thing happened with my friend .... i advised, hopingly :) , that she use a laptop and full browser not mobile....she was able to order fine then thankfully

it's probably been asked and answered, and I've found conflicting reports. But can you take your residential starlink to a holiday home. .E.g Dublin usually wexford temporarily.

if yes how does it work what do you need to do.

afaik the answer is NO. The reason is they have a plan specifically for mobile use another €19 a month iirc and different hardware.

I wouldn't mind testing it though..I'd be curious if they block you based on gps location or something. I can understand the mobile plan as it's basically for rvs that are on the road all the time but if you are moving to a house for a weekend then it might work? If course depends how mobile your installation is.. and if you have cabling that's easy to bring with you or have a spare one

From reading about starlink setups from the very start I'm fairly convinced they are blocked from moving very far and still working. I think you might get away with about a kilometer because the starlink location map shows my dishy about a k away from where it actually is. As you'd expect someone on youtube has tested it….

OK….so I grabbed a rental deal and although it was described as "Standard"…its actually the Gen2 actuated version.

Its been great….but i'm aware that the 3rd gen is better….and the wifi in the corners of the house could be better….we have corner WFH offices (Imagine wifi is better)..

The question for you knowledgeable folks is….should i get the 3rd Gen one? Is it really worth the upgrade? Will if have better wifi coverage?

Should not rely solely on ISP router WiFi if you need "blanket" coverage in all rooms/places. There are dedicated WiFi network products that, once configured correctly, will provide coverage where required with options to expand/extend if needed.

You can put the starlink router in bypass mode and use your own router and setup whatever mesh system you want.

have a starlink at home running great. Looking at getting a second dish for the mobile home down west. I should know the answer to this but I can’t find it. Can I run a second in my mobile home separate contract for 3 maybe 4 months then turn it off and store it for the winter. And pause the subscription until the following year. Restart the subscription and so on. Apologies if this comes across as a dumb question

Yes. Starlink is very flexible that way, though I assume this would only apply where you buy the equipment.

I believe the ability to pause the subscription for a number of months is only available on the Roam plans otherwise you'd have to cancel the subscription and reactivate it when needed again.

Oh, you're right. Refurbed is no longer an option, but the price for the Standard Actuated at €225 is roughly what the refurbed equipment used to be priced at, if I recall correctly.

They also seem to have stopped the rental scheme, where you just pay, was it, €20-25 on top of the €50 per month and there was no equipment cost to you.

Refurb kit went down to €150 plus €40 for the ethernet adapter plus shipping, this option disappeared recently.

Never mind. I got the information I needed!

We just had fibre installed last week. And I'm looking to remove the starlink setup. So I'm looking for advice on what order I need to cancel the subscription. Reset the modem and stow the dish. Am I better to reset the starlink. Cancel the subscription then remove the hardware?

curious lads why get rid of starlink once other options becomes available. Is it costs or service. To be honest the broadband roll out isn’t due to get to us until Christmas 2025. I intend to keep my starlink setup regardless.

fiber will always beat satalite when the numbers are crunched. Like Starlink is as fast as a genes fiber was 10 years + ago for sure so we don’t really seee it as much.

People uploading large files or who require a better ping(packet sharing/loss) might notice fiber is better.

Also if you have teenagers all on streaming on iPads and if your heavy yourself you may also notice(unlikely now since Starlink is bringing down 200+MBPS consistently.)

Starlink simply will not compete with true fibre at all on any of the metrics.

Is it good, yes.

Is it compatible to fibre no. Uploads, downloads, contention, speed latency. Fibre beats it on all counts. Plus I can't cut my money to an Elon enterprise on top.
