Not trying to be negative. But have they made any real progress towards the capacity issues at Connolly. While all these other ideas are great, is Connolly not a keystone around everything else has to fit.

There was a lot of spare land with old railway infrastructure between Connolly and the Point. It's slowly disappearing. Whatever about it not being in exactly in the right place. I hope we don't regret selling it off in the future. Then all we will hear is how there's no space.

Apologies if this is off topic. But you guys seem to know what's happening...

Other than a small number of track alterations there is nothing happening with Connolly. The relief will be either a Connolly upgrade or Dart Tunnel. The Dart+ plans for Spencer Dock do very little in easing congestion at Connolly.

I'd suspect the Connolly upgrade was put on hold to wait for Cross Boarder and Tunnel review. Should neither of them bear fruit, Connolly upgrade could be included into the Dart+ Coastal project.

Presumably any underground station at Spencer Dock will have to be relatively shallow, in order to get trains up to the Northern Line?

What was the max gradient proposed under Dart Underground?

Not sure about shallow but it wasn't as deep as the other stations. The previous Docklands station was around 20m below ground. Most others on the line were 25m below ground.

They're not going to put a significant diversion in just to move the trains a tiny bit closer to the quays

they will if this is the approach line for the DART Underground.

they will if this is the approach line for the DART Underground.

They won't. A tunnel been a tunnel would mean it would run under the Luas.

It would be a lot more feasible to put the whole station underground than to have both a surface and underground crossing Mayor street and diverting Luas onto the North Quay.

I am curious if the DART station at Kylemore is now going ahead? And what about the Luas line?

Or were both of these scrapped?

Apologies for bumping a relatively old thread but it seemed the most relevant thread related to ballyfermot.

Kylemore station is still planned to be built, although as a separate project to Dart Plus South West. I haven't seen any timescales for it.

Luas Lucan looks like it will still go ahead as well, although I would say the absolute best case scenario imaginable there is 10 years. This will interchange with Kylemore station and go through Ballyfermot and Cherry Orchard.

    Thanks for the reply!

So is LUAS likely before the train station if there is no timeline?

I saw that Green TD say the train station would be in ballyfermot, rather than Kylemore (I think), but from what you're saying the station will be located in Kylemore which is 1.2 km south of ballyfermot, is that correct? Sorry im familiar with the area.

Kylemore Road, Ballyfermot; not the area around/near Kylemore Luas stop

It has to be on the train line obviously, and this is the place that makes most sense for interchange with other forms of transit.

It's hard to know and I have no special insight on the subject but my impression was that the train station isn't going to be that far away so should be there before the Luas line.

I don't know where you got 1.2km from, or how a measurement can be that accurate! Ballyfermot is a big place. It backs onto the railway so it's 0km away. Tesco in Ballyfermot (and the main strip of shops) is 800m away according to Google maps. The roundabout is 500m.
